Chapter 22 : White Flags and Handkerchief

With the drum instrument having kept to be tilted forward, Alec swayed it close to his ear in order to listen well. The sound it made was the sound all similar to the sea waves, ranging from gentle ripples to crashing of it.

Depending on what angle he tilted his wrists, the speed of his boat increased accordingly. Repeating the same movement but in the opposite direction, he got a similar result with the wave carrying him in that way. The switch between moving back and forth was smooth, the same for when he tried to do it left and right.

There were a few times he had to stop though, in order to change the position of his hold. This allowed him recentre the drum, and stop the disruption which occured in it. It occured whenever the sea waves crashed onto his boat from the outside. Reason for that was the same Invocation which allowed the Alec to make use of the ocean drum to control the sea waves right under him.

Due to this connection however, the waves under the boat that got affected also affected all the beads present inside the drum. A few of them even starting to show minute cracks, due to the extensive load put on each of them by his powers.

For Alec it took a single glance to recognise that these things inside the drum won't last for very long. So he performed one last action he could do prior to breaking it completely. Creating all it from scratch would be much more difficult than transferring some beads.

Changing the position of the drum from close to his ear, and bringing it next to his chest Alec then shook it a little. This caused a different reaction from the Invoked wave, as it rose upwards which pushed the boat up for a small moment.

Repeating this two more times Alec then stopped and set the drum inside the basket. Pulling a new item out under the white cloth, which turned out to be a square handkerchief with a little embroidery. That Alec carried with himself to the stern of the sail boat, where he relaxed his grip and slowly let the handkerchief go.

Immediately after that the sail boat began moving at accelerating speed taking control of it the boat moved faster only stopping after tens of minutes passed.

This Invocation made by Alec worked simply on the basis of handkerchief waving, that mostly flew away in the air during goodbyes. An old custom which has mostly disappeared by now, it still held fort in old films and the various modern media that referenced it.

Circling around the safe boundary, and letting Myr to catch up from the back, Alec then sailed further. Meanwhile picking up the large white cloth from the basket, then a long stick that he tied one side from the upper end of the stick. Setting it down after that Alec then spotted a school of fish-headed monsters that he reached close to soon.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

All of them turned heads towards to look in the sail boat's direction, then after a small pause started to swim in his direction. A long distance from when the group of bi-pedal fish monsters could close in Alec lifted up the flag with a white cloth tied to it. Proceeding to then wave it in the direction of monsters, they actually slowed to gawk at the waving flag.

Taking advantage of their delay, Alec then increased the distance more which created more hesitation. As could be sedn in their actions that lead to the monsters finally give up on it. Until Alec widened the distance more, yet not having entered the area where the curse was present willing to test the white flag a couple more times.

Upon further testing he was able to prove a number of different conjectures. Such as it's effect getting stronger at longer distances to the target and substantially more weaker at closer distances. The effect of this white flag would also break, if the distance between either party was shortened by Alec.

Lastly he tested if any damage taken by the flag during its usage would adversely affect the Invocation spell he liked to refer as a forced peace. The result turned out to be that it was, also that damage weakened any future effect making it even weaker with any subsequent damage.

Another thing that Alec wished to test but sadly could not was the use of tattoos. He was I'll advised to do so, since Myr told Alec that putting on any strong creature as tattoo without actually having hunted it would bring forth much worse results. There was only a limited amount of space where he could put any tattoos on himself.

Thus causing him to give up on the notion of tattoos, at the very least for the present time being. Removing the cloth off of the stick, the white flag was then seperated like how it was.

Next Alec went back to seek a number of the fish headed creature, luckily he found the same group which stopped chasing him just earlier. This time with no white flag lifted up, instead a small pile of bits and pieces of fish food that the creature ate.

Some of them ate those, others ignored it in favour of eating Alec first. To which he used the might of his ropes, and prevent any harm to fall himself.

As the final of the few items Alec wished to test, he then used ocean drum alongside dropping another handkerchief he threw. A sudden surge in the speed became visible as Alec then moved in the direction of the spire. Having placed a few beacon items there, allowing him to find back his path.

Reaching right under the spire's base, he then brought the ocean drum under his knees and swung it overhead. Creating a rather large wave that lifted the sail boat up by a great distance until Alec placed it close to the entrance doors.

Moving towards the edge of the entrance space, Alec stared at the turbulent water knowing he did not have much time before he had to go out there. All the time he had spent in the safety, learning how to sail from the scratch alongside the use of his powers in a multitude of different ways.

Having improved his body's constitution was just an added bonus to all of that. Even though the road might be tough for him, considering the dangers which Myr had told to Alec to completely avoid. Days were passing by slowly yet steadily, shortening his stay here at this spire which was perfect otherwise.

This was especially so after keeping in mind, that he had to leave some time before the curse's activation time. In order to allow him a some time when he could come back and recuperate if struck by some unforeseen circumstances.

A ton of those which Alec could suffer, especially if he could not find the first of the islands in the sea. Since it pointed directly from where one should go if seeking to leave the island. Although he was preparing to the best of his abilities, sometime the best isn't enough.

Leaving the grim future aside, Alec focused on the state of his sail boat. Seperating the parts one by one, he checked every single one of them to see if any of them were not working well anymore. Wrapping up the sails, and then shifting through a few compartments he then busied himself.

He set aside the basket with some of the important items he used today. Then taking out a towel to dry himself first, he took a different cloth for cleaning some parts of the ship.

A couple minutes of doing that Myr then showed up, and came close to him with a raised stone platform. They both went inside the spire through the entrance doors.
