Chapter 19 : Steps of a Process

Chapter 19 : Steps of a Process

The number of these jagged toothed bi-pedal fish creatures then started to grow sg. Allowing Alec to feel relief that did not last for much as his boat started to shake violently.

Hit by a great deal of force from below, urging him to take sharp turns in the sea. Making Alec to understand that the higher tides were actually safer.

Since those tides would allow his sail boat to rise higher, and create enough propulsion for him to perhaps fly it. But that was neither the time nor his goal right now. Since there was a reason he had not already returned to the area which the monsters avoided due to the curse which they could feel.

The new creature showed itself by rising to the surface, swimming slower than the ones he had been encountering. As this one had bigger frame, and a tough looking crustacean like shell. It's natural weapon appeared to be the scorpion like tale on the end of the back.

When Alec tried to poke at it by using his rope, that tail struck the rope and easily deflected it. Not letting it be anywhere near, proving to Alec how danger it was really dangerous. But also providing him with a specimen to possibly achieve his goal.

Creating a change on the deck of his boat, Alec then tied the sail on mast and made it more spacious. Allowing the crustacean like creature to land onboard, where he carefully started to observe it's every move.

During all of this what Alec could not see was, that behind him Myr's cloaked statue body began to expand. Turning into that armor figure same as how it was during their first encounter.

Anticipating the moment of being able to feel the weight of object anytime. Alec then bided time with his eyebrows furrowed only to open them wide in surprise, at instantly finding the stinger, to be only less than an inch inside his bicep. While the rest of the creature was long gone, followed by the stinger that could be seen at a distance. Floating along with the dead creature, it having a stone spear stuck to its body.

Looking at it momentarily Alec then fell down, having lost all strength on his body. Due to the paralyzing poison acting inside his system making him lose all strength. Causing him to collapse luckily staring up, an upset emotion that starts to grow in his heart.

As he lied there feeling defeated and a little loss. With a ton of negative thoughts began to pour out like a dam set loose. Bringing all the miserable emotions that he had kept at bay, through the help of a constant routine and sense of improvement.

A large smooth shaped rock at that point comes at his way, landing inside the boat with a small thud which Alec heard. Not being able to look at it but knowing the source it.

The rock then move towards the direction of it's thrower with a strong a force of pull. Causing the boat to start moving as well, despite the size difference between it and entire sail boat. Reaching close to Myr, who upon seeing the state Alec was in quietly picked him up, and started moving toward the spire. Tying the rope on the sail boat to help move it alongside them.

Meanwhile through this Alec did not spoke or made eye contact with the other party. Not having the courage to do so, thinking about how he had been so narrowly saved by the figure.

This feeling of uselessness was several times worse. As it was partly due to him being both exhausted and knowing that he did not have much time. He needed to everything he could to survive and cross this danger filled sea. Just the pace of his growth did not make him feel like he would be able to do so.

Any major thing he did with his powers ended up in failure and now when he tried to replicate the earlier application he clearly failed. In this sad mood he was quietly taken to the bed, and fed the antidote to the poison.

Slowly by the second feeling returned to his body, but the mood to actually get up and do something did not.

Thinking back to when he felt like this before, Alec remembered his middle school days. It was a time he rarely liked to remember, because it was filled with experiences he wished he never had. Back then his parents almost had a divorce, and stopped living together while leaving Alec to his paternal grandparents.

It caused him to change schools, and due to everything that transpired at home made it difficult to socialize much. Though he tried to be good to his grandparents, while also acting as a decent student in class. It created a sense of distance between his classmates, a few of which even bullied or called him names.

This brought more isolation and even fewer friends for Alec. This created a deep sense of desolation in him leading his grades to slip and making him not want to go to school.

When one day his grandfather had gently asked him about this he finally told him about all of this. To which listening to all of this, his grandfather then said.

"But have you done anything in all of this that you felt was wrong?"

At that question Alec's mind back then halted, and upon a deep searching he genuinely found the answer to be.

"No."

"Then if you have been a good person, yet your surroundings are telling that is not right then it is a fault with them. Being however you want to is a strength that a person has. The greatest way to be happy in life is have fun and feel free."

At those words he could remember his grandpa's frame, although being shrunk down due to age, seemed great like a mountain. The next words that he said then were this.

"Remember to retaliate back against anyone, who talks to you like that or calls you any bad name. Your grandpa is here to take your side."

Starting from that point nobody was able to bully Alec, and later in highschool and college he made great friends. Although in the middle of his college years his grandfather passed away. Still, he holds his memory deep in his heart.

Wiping away the tears that he did not know when had formed, Alec started to brainstorm ideas related to how to reverse his failure.

In doing so he remained awake the entire night, writing down all the experience and all the factors in his first use of Invocation. By the time it was morning he went to drink some milk and eat something to get energy. Although the lack of sleep made him somewhat less focused, Alec went to Myr and then telling him the idea he had.

Clearly advocating support to his regained confidence, that the spire's keeper found admirable about Alec after yesterday. Doing the appropriate preparation they went outside the spire again.

It had been a day since the large scorpion like tailed crustacean had been killed. With it's body fought after by the group of sharp toothed bi-pedal fish like monsters. The group still hanging around there, with one of them having a couple of missing teeth, having lost them in a confrontation. Earlier when it fought to eat a part from the body of the crustacean that was long gone now. In it's belly and the belly of the rest of it's monstrous shoal.

To these kinds of monsters other than their own kind there were only two categories of living things. One that were to be eaten, and other to be escaped from. Sometimes with the help of numerical advantage the latter could be turned into former. Yet that was rare to seen, as they lived in the less dangerous part of the sea due to being weak.

Surviving close to the area of the curse, that they had an instinctual precognition to never cross. Around this area no large or dangerous creature survived for too long due to a reason unknown to their simple minds.

Soon in it's beady fish eyes a small boat made appearance. A little wary at first of it perhaps being something to escape from, the creature recognised that the only source of life from that object was a creature smaller than even itself.

With the recognition that it was perhaps a prey, it then started to swim forward only having beaten by many others like it. Still continuing on with the hunt, with the hope of scavenging at least one part to eat. The chase getting faster as it turned around clearly showing the signs of an escaping prey. One that was far too late in making it's decision of doing so.

Spreading themselves to cover this prey from every direction, there was no direction for the boat to escape. It stopping at place while the creature's began to rush forward. As if racing each other to see who would be the first to satiate their never ending hunger.

One of them was able to close that distance the fastest, only for the others of it's kind to see it not moving. Having pierced through the head by a thin rope that looked like a tail coming from behind the small prey.

This greatly enraged all of them except for one, who stopped moving as fast as it was doing before. The one that still had a few missing teeth, seeing how each and everyone of its kind to be easily dealt with by what it had considered prey. For the first time a notion of an idea came to it's simple mind, that while something to be run from can become prey the vice-versa can also happen.

So it began swimming in the opposite direction to escape this threat. That caught the fish headed creature with what seemed like a large to it. Clearly struggling against to somehow loose itself from the grasp.

When it slowly saw the sharp object at the end of this 'tail' that had claimed the life of its fellow the fear in it's mind reached the peak.

It was at that moment the rope stopped moving forward, and the creature got dropped on to the deck of the boat. Despite being released the bi-pedal fish like creature could not move, while the other person on the boat had his hand in a clenched motion.

By now Alec was grinning wildly, clearly happy at having succeeded at something he failed at so thoroughly just yesterday.
