Chapter 18 : Sailing Experience

A couple more weeks pass by like this, and nearly two months has been gone since he first arrived.

With Alec continuing on with his training, and seeing visible improvement on his body. Starting from when he first began training till now there was great deal of change in his body's physique. Making his body's muscles look defined, but not bully even a little bit.

In this time other than improving his body, the Invocation powers also showed significant improvement. At the moment he was swimming upwards with the water coming down vertically like a waterfall from a height. Doing butterfly strokes he crossed the length of the pool despite it coming from up to down.

The moment when he finally reached the top he then got out of water, causing to him start falling down from that significant height. In that he straightened his back and took a diving position.

Falling at a straight angle with focus on the ground directly below him he then gestured his index and middle finger to up and down. A tall pillar with the rope connected to it then dislodged itself from the ground and launched upwards, passing by some distance from Alec who keeps the gesture from his two fingers clearly guiding the movement of the pillar with that.

In between the pillar passing him and going upwards one end of the rope unties itself from there and connects with his leg. Then as Alec falls down more his drop kept getting slower until it was no longer as dangerous anymore.

The pillar then falls down with it's fall guided by Alec again. Drying himself off with the towel, and after getting clothed back again. Alec moved towards Myr and then saying.

"I believe I have gotten better with the using the mast by itself. Next I want to focus on the sails."

At which Myr nods and they start designing the specific of the sail he wants. The main purpose of the sail is to propel ship through water, through the help of the wind that passes by.

Alec understood the very first problem with that. In a storm there was no way to get any reliable wind that would help him move forward, so he had thought. To answer this doubt which Alec described, Myr then told Alec.

"No matter the direction of wind the sails would help you forward, what you rely on other than helm or rudder is the rope. Through the help of it you can tense or loosen the sail. Strong winds would always aid your movement, you need to let it do that. The only time you would actually suffer would be in a tornado or whirlpool, but those are avoidable. Now what is your plan in regarding a different use for the sail?"

Having gained confidence in both himself and the other party to listen. Alec then said this to the spire's keeper.

"I want it to help me fly. Either the ship or just me alone, if I have the need to abandon it."

In order to do this Alec needed to keep the size of ship as small as possible. Which he had thought would be the case anyway, a bigger would just be a bigger target for the monsters. Smaller ship with more useful parts was the end design that they came up with. One that could be assembled and disassembled really easily.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

All of that said and done this was the plan for later. Currently he had to refine some of the various other necessary survival skills. Most important of which, other than cooking and distilling water, was to create some form of entertainment for himself. The entire journey to outside the sea of storms would take Alec seven days with three possible stops in total.

Thinking about the various forms of entertainment, Alec's first and foremost choice was music. Bringing this point to Myr who had an answer for this in the form of a music box. One that works on principle of vibrating on contact, creating the notes of a song that one wishes to hear.

Alec had zero idea on where to start to design something like, thankfully there was Myr who exactly knew what to do. Bringing Alec an old looking 18-note music box, that could play a song for sometime between two to four minutes after fully winding up.

That Alec could hear listen a humming lullaby that was distorted in some parts. Having listened to it fully, Alec then heard the spire's keeper say.

"The song in it was sung by my creator. She used to believe in making things of all kinds, not just grand creations but smaller things like this. Most of those have broken down despite my tries in restoring them."

There was an air of regret that Alec couldn't help but sympathise with. But soon he didn't need to as Myr spoke further.

"I should try recreating them despite all of that. Let me start that by recreating a music box for you."

Picking the music box from Alec's grasp, the spire's keeper then went back upstairs. After which Alec himself went downstairs, and getting his lunch for the day.

The next day Alec was using a prototype version of small sail boat. Using the guidance from Myr who was observing him, while standing on a raised stone platform.

After sailing forward a little Alec practiced controlling the sail through indication form the flaps of the sail sheets. It did not take long time for him to capsize, that he knew how to deal with. Keeping direct contact with the boat, he made sure to not be fixed with a rope. Seeing that the rudder had not taken he, climbed up to grab the centre board and grabbed it.

Then the board began to rise which he finished by putting his weight on the centre board and then got up. Continuing on with sailing again, after a few hours the boat started to flip under. In order to fix it this time, he went in the opposite to where his boat was flipping. Quickly applying force on the centre board. As this allowed a smooth operation of him preventing the boat to be upside down again.

With this he then proceeded to control the sail boat and moved towards the spire with it's keeper following him on foot. No wanting to sink into the sea by putting too much weight on Alec's boat.

Under the spire Alec waited and upon seeing that Myr was near, he then closed the sail cloth, unfixed the mast and threw the pillar upward. With the rope still connecting the boat and the pillar. Upon it reaching the top then getting stuck there, Alec used his ability to make it pull the rest of the boat up as well.

Meanwhile him doing this Myr had already gotten up to the spire's door. Having it open as soon as Alec reached close to it, with him only bringing the mast with himself for now. Going back one by one for the each part of the boat to be brought with him later.

Taking a shower and having a change of clothes, Alec then went to have a good meal. After which he asked this to the spire's keeper.

"A game of chess?"

To which the other party responded.

"Sure "

For some time after that they both played a game of chess. That initially Alec easily won due to the other party having just learned it. But when Myr won the game for the first time, it made Alec to not be as careless anymore. Bringing them to here, as their chess skills were nearly equal but more of Alec's pieces were gone.

Despite that he manages to eek out a win, after reviving his queen with a pawn. After this he took rest for the night, having plans to practice sailing a little more for the next days. To the point he could learn how to direct his boat better, and eliminate the possibility of capsizing especially. Doing that he would then head out to the dangerous part still under the supervision of Myr.

Many days later Alec went to the open sea, where as soon as he was outside the thousand step radius of the spire danger arrived. With many of those mutated creatures he first encountered beginning to climb on to his sail boat from under.

That Alec retaliated against by using the ropes attached with sharp objects stab each one of them. Quickly eliminating each one of them despite how many times they came. After which their point of arrival became completely forward. With three more of them landing on the deck of his sail boat, which Alec did not allow for more than a couple seconds easily throwing them all overboard.

Yet it brought an arrival of more of these creatures, that Alec did not relent and kept fighting against with more fervor. Throughout all of this keeping his boat moving, not going away too far from where Myr could help him though.
