Chapter 31 : Gathering at the Green Island

Chapter 31 : Gathering at the Green Island

Moving the row boat further by the help of Invocation, he made the oars to push the water backwards. This allowed the boat to propel forward, despite the excess material on it he was able to manage it.

This row boat was a makeshift work that he wished to fix, which he was planning to do after docking it near the island body. Though he scouted for danger by circling around its periphery, and finding not much difference except for the variation in some of the plants and flowers.

Seeking the one with the least amount of them, Alec then brought his boat close to it. This was to make sure no ambushes occur while he stopped by it. He had no cups to make string-phones at the moment to detect danger through hearing the sound of forewarning.

'Wait, no. Maybe I can do it a little differently, perhaps by taking it a step at time.'

Following his thoughts quite literally, Alec prepared to step onto the island. Doing so by first extending his right leg, and then bringing his left leg to meet it.

By the third step from his right leg in this manner, he heard or rather felt the ringing sound from his leg. Therefore instead of stepping forward with that leg, he used the other one to swiftly leap backward.

This allowed him to avoid an attack that was aimed for his leg right there. Done so by a big flower that earlier seemed completely unmoving, now showing vicious teeth hidden underneath the cover of it's large petals. Reaching for one of the handaxes on the boat, still fixed to the end of the ropes. Alec then caught it and then grasped it tightly, while the rope was pulled further towards him.

Three more flowers, similar to the one that just attacked him, stood up and advanced toward Alec. In order to distract them he threw the first axe he was holding, meanwhile second one coming to him. In a speed as fast as the rope moved ahead with the thrown axe.

Stopping the rope before the second axe was in his grasp, he then spun it around at rapid speeds. Trying to figure out the weak spot of these violent flowers. Finding it to be at the stem right below the flower's head, Alec saw the opening where he could hit it and then did so. Cleaving the first one that had attacked him, then repeating it with the other ones he was free.

Looking further deep into the island that was covered in the foliage, Alec saw no sign of any appearent danger. Though he stayed at the very edge of the island, from there he began to recall the various parts of the boat back.

This only worked because of three major factors.

First, was that he had a significant piece of the boat with him. That he used a centre point to recall the other pieces back to. Using the logic that lead to him making the Invocation, since it was always faster in being able to fix something than make it from scratch.

The second, due to him turning each of those piece into a beacon, which he could locate from very far away. Using this he just had to wait, while remaining vigilant for any danger.

The third and last one was due to the Leviathan not being the fastest it could. Missing nearly half of it's tail, with some of it having turned to stone at some point. Due to it returning to the spire to attack it again, not learning the lesson first having escaped more easily than any other monster that day.

Most likely having hunted some of the more injured monsters, and feeling a sense of power all due to it. Causing it to then return year later, luckily it swam right outside the range. Circling the periphery closer, in the midst of doing not realising it's tail sometimes crossing the radius. Only when the curse began to spread, did it chose to escape and having to bite the area where the curse had grown.

it to where it was now, strong at diving and ascending but not so much for chasing after its prey. Some of which he was told by the account which Myr told him. Though not having known a lot of these details as well, leading to make Alec more cautious about the monster.

Presently nothing dangerous actively approached Alec, with him soon smelling a light peach smell coming from deep in the island. This raised his appetite so he chose to eat some of the preserved food he had on his person. The supply was running short, so he knew that he had to

His wait was soon rewarded as the first piece of his separated sailboat arrived. What made it better was that this part of the boat had the mast still intact on it, giving reason as to how it got faster than all the other pieces.

After that, the other pieces of the boat soon came as well, with some being more intact than the rest. Using what he had Alec then fixed the sail boat back together. Having the process much swift than having to actually assemble, this was due to his preperation in knowing exactly which part to break where.

Looking contemplatively at the damaged or broken area of the sail boat, he glanced at the trees which could easily solve this problem of his. Ignoring it for a moment he then first focused on making the string-phone. One of which he had lost during his escape from the Leviathan.

Just thinking about it made Alec severely infuriated, channeling that anger into productivity he was quickly done. Next he started making the ocean drum, this was a little more complicated.

The step which took the most time was the painting one, as Alec had to make a drawing inside the drum to complete it. One that resembled a massive tide, although he got to see it only some times due to the beads covering it.

In between of him making the ocean drum, the smell of the peach grew even stronger. Turning to be nearly overwhelming for Alec, who in order to combat this wrapped a cloth on his mouth. Allowing him to not be affected as badly anymore, the same did not go for the residents of the sea below him.

All of whom were the ones that could move on land, either by crawling walking on one or multiple pairs of feet. Their ending being the same despite that, done by the various carnivorous plants or flowers there. That each swallowed a body whole, only capable of doing that once though. Rest of them kept walking towards the centre, where Alec did not choose to see or follow.

Rather opting to do a much more important task, one that involved with him repeatedly using his axe on one the trees. The first one which he chopped down, soon enough leading it to fall in the direction of his cuts.

As soon as it fell he split his focus between cutting the second one, and removing the branches off the first one. Over with the task as the second tree fell down as well, Alec quickly cut off all the branches and load them on the boat. Prompting to sail away from the island, that he felt like becoming more dangerous by the minute.

Sailing away in his incomplete and damaged sail boat, Alec still felt safer than he did with just the rowing boat. Which he had long converted into the shape it was, already connecting it to the sail boat. Preparing to saw the large logs into useful lumber, doing so by cutting them each horizontally, using the help of a saw which moved swiftly with Invocation.

Then, replacing the damaged parts with a less good quality but still manageable lumber he had just acquired. Doing a decent job while still being on the move, as he then sailed the last stretch of the sea journey.

Only to pass by larg monsters, that for the first time ignored him to move in the direction he came from. This brought the magnitude he felt towards that island several folds, and was thankful that he chose to avoid it than going to satisfy his curiousity.
