Chapter 49 Chaos

Chapter 49 Chaos

Louis nodded lightly to everyone and stayed in the corridor without entering the ward, considerately giving the three siblings some space for conversation. In the intensive care unit, only Emmanuel lay alone on the bed, looking pale due to excessive blood loss. Emily, with tears streaming down her face, approached the bed, grabbed Emmanuel's hand, and softly said, "I've come to see you. Wake up!"

Upon hearing the call, Emmanuel slowly opened his eyes to see the caring and anxious faces of his two sisters. Emmanuel mustered a faint smile and whispered, "I'm fine, you two don't need to worry about me." Looking at his sister's disbelief, Emmanuel chuckled and said, "Really, I'm fine! Why cry? If you cry anymore, you'll look even more beautiful, and then Louis won't like you, so don't blame me."

Blushing, Emily lowered her head and playfully said, "Brother, you're the worst!"

Emmanuel exaggeratedly exclaimed, startling Emily and the others, but seeing Emmanuel's laughing eyes, they realized they had been fooled. Suddenly, Emmanuel thought of Anne and wondered if she was in danger. Hastily, he asked, "Emily, do you... do you know how Anne is? Is she in danger?"

Emily, feeling displeased, didn't have a good impression of Anne, blaming her for the previous rift with Louis and now endangering her brother. Emily casually replied, "She's lucky, won't die!"

Emmanuel softly said, "That's good, that's good..." After a moment, Emmanuel saw the displeasure on Emily's face and quickly asked, "Emily, do you have any misunderstandings about Anne?"

Not wanting to worry her brother, Emily loudly replied, "No, I don't..."

Emmanuel chatted with his sisters for a while and finally said, "Alright, you two go back. Don't worry about me. When you leave, tell Louis to come in. I have something to say to him." Emma nodded, and they left the room, informing Louis that Emmanuel wanted to see him.

Louis had anticipated Emmanuel's request and smiled at the two sisters before entering the ward.

"How do you feel? The doctor said you'll be fine soon!" Louis sat next to Emmanuel and said with a smile.

Emmanuel nodded and asked, "Louis, tell me about Anne. I'm worried about her!"

Louis looked somber, unsure whether to tell Emmanuel. Seeing Emmanuel's anxiety, he finally said, "Don't worry, Anne is not in mortal danger. However, the bullet injured her central nervous system, and she might suffer from blindness."

Emmanuel sighed in relief and calmly said, "As long as she's alive, that's all that matters. I love her, and no matter if she goes blind or not, I will marry her in the future!"

Louis chuckled at Emmanuel's seriousness, observing the contrasting personalities of the two. He sincerely said, "I truly hope you and Anne will have a good future."

"Thank you! I just don't know if she's willing. Anne always treats me coldly!" Emmanuel said with a hint of sadness.

"Don't worry! Anne is like that not only to you but also to me. That's just her personality. Put in some effort, and you'll catch up with her!" Louis assured.

"I hope so!" Emmanuel replied.

Emmanuel solemnly said, "Louis, during the time I'm in the hospital, Dragon is without a leader, and I'm afraid chaos may ensue. I need you to take charge temporarily. Take this responsibility seriously." With that, Emmanuel took a difficult step and removed a necklace from around his neck, placing it in Louis's hands.

Louis asked, "What is this?"

"This is Dragon's token, passed down from my grandfather. Hold onto it. Seeing this token is like seeing the leader. If anyone disobeys you, use this to command them."

Louis brought the necklace closer, holding it in his hand. Though it seemed small, it represented the authority to command the entire Dragon organization.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Interrupting Louis's contemplation, Emmanuel said, "Louis, gather the members of the gang. I have a few things to explain."

Louis nodded and called the people outside into the hospital room. Emmanuel wanted to sit up, but the immense pain behind him made him give up, and he said calmly, "You are all the backbone of Dragon, and you should know that Dragon is facing many challenges now. With my injury, the gang needs someone to lead. So, during my time in the hospital, Louis will handle gang affairs. I've also given him the leader's token. Assist Louis well, and ensure the gang overcomes its difficulties."

The group listened, looked at each other, and unanimously nodded in agreement. They had no objections to Louis, an outsider, managing Dragon. Firstly, everyone knew Louis's capabilities, and secondly, they understood Louis's relationship with Emily.

Seeing the agreement of the group, Emmanuel felt relieved, his face showing fatigue. Louis, noticing this, said to the group, "Alright, Emmanuel's injuries are still severe, and he's tired. Let's leave for now." After hearing this, the group looked at Emmanuel, who appeared pale and said in unison, "Take care. We'll leave now." Then, turning to Louis, they nodded before leaving the hospital room.

Louis also stood up and said, "I'll leave too. I'll come to see you tomorrow."

Seeing Emmanuel nod, Louis walked out of the hospital room. The core members of Dragon didn't leave immediately, greeting Louis as they exited. After all, Dragon was now under Louis's management, and everyone wanted to establish good relations with him.

While conversing with these people, Louis walked out of the hospital. Through these conversations, he gained a better understanding of the current situation of Dragon. Among the core members, Louis was particularly impressed with two individuals—Andy and Ryan. Although their positions in Dragon were not very high, Louis sensed their uniqueness. Both were young, possessing the vigor and agile minds of youth.

Two days later, Emmanuel's injuries had improved somewhat, and he could get out of bed with the help of crutches and stroll on his own. Meanwhile, Anne's central nervous system damage had not yet healed, and Emmanuel stayed by her side all day, telling her stories from his childhood. Louis visited a few times but always left hastily after a short stay.

Louis, leveraging Emmanuel's connections, reached out to a senator and sent Leo with a million dollars to establish a connection. Leo handed the senator a million dollars in one go, with only one condition – make Peter leave! The senator, disliking Peter for his honesty, reluctantly agreed due to the recent increase in criminal activities and external pressure to let a capable organization handle the situation.

After accepting Leo's million, the senator said only one thing to him: "I can fulfill your request, but you need to give me a reason to transfer him." Leo immediately relayed this message to Louis, who sighed, understanding the senator's implications. Unfortunately, talents like Peter were hard to come by. Louis then gave orders to Nightmare and Dragon simultaneously, with the general directive being chaos.

In the city center, two young men in their twenties publicly snatched a woman's handbag. The woman screamed, "Catch the thief!" and people gathered. The two young men stopped, pulled out knives from their waists, and shouted, "Who dares to come!" The onlookers made way for them, and the two young men left triumphantly. The police, standing ten meters away, turned a blind eye, casually walking past while smoking.

The entire city was in chaos. Criminal organizations were robbing, fighting, and stealing everywhere. Street harassment of beautiful girls was common, and the patrol police simply smiled, pretending not to see. The police emergency line was busy all day, and finally, Peter, unable to sit still, personally went on patrol. However, troublemakers seemed to know he was coming, and he couldn't catch anyone.

Those accompanying him had already discreetly leaked information. The police also had no love for Peter; since his arrival, their secondary income from illicit activities had stopped, and everyone wanted him gone. Frustrated by the daily violence caused by criminal organizations, the public held massive protests in front of the government buildings. Undercover members of the underworld led the way, instigating violence by throwing bricks at the city hall's windows.

Seeing someone throw the first brick, the angry crowd couldn't control their emotions, and a riot ensued. The government buildings were soon turned into a battleground, with leaders sweating profusely. Eventually, the military had to be deployed to suppress the situation. Instead of calming down, the situation worsened, and the public became even more furious.

Now, there was no semblance of law and order. Peter knew that Louis was behind this but couldn't do anything about it. The protesting crowd in the city center grew, initially orderly, but later infiltrated by troublemakers, turning increasingly chaotic. Stores on both sides of the central street were looted.

The senator didn't expect the guy he paid a million to would escalate the situation to this extent. He urgently transferred Peter and scolded him in just three days, subsequently revoking his position.

Louis was satisfied. He released a message through the underworld, and all criminal organizations sent people to disperse the protesting crowd. Louis now controlled Nightmare and Dragon, and no one dared defy him. Unlike the police and the military, they were willing to do things the government's violent institutions wouldn't dare. Soon, with the collaboration of the mafia and the city government, the protesting crowd was completely dispersed, and the newly appointed director received praise, securing his position.
