Chapter 36 Battle

Chapter 36 Battle

Louis lay on the sofa, embracing Emily's waist, saying, "Looks like I'll have to sleep on the couch!"

"Get up, you'll catch a cold sleeping here. Come sleep in my room!" Emily pulled Louis up and led him upstairs.

Louis lay on Emily's bed, smelling a faint fragrance and recalling the scene just now. He couldn't express the excitement in his heart, and a smile unconsciously appeared on his face. In his heart, he thought, it seems like I really like Emily, and I'm very happy with her. Seeing her smiling face, there was an indescribable sense of satisfaction. But why do I have the same feelings for Emma and Amy? Could it be that I love all three of them at the same time? Louis closed his eyes and thought wildly, eventually falling asleep.

Hearing Louis's steady breathing, Emily was afraid of anyone disturbing him. She picked up his phone and quietly left the room. Back in the living room, Emily remembered what Louis had just said, "I think I really love you," and it filled her heart with sweetness. She had beautiful expectations for their future together. After a while, her phone rang, interrupting her distant thoughts. Emily picked up the phone with annoyance and said, "Hello? Will you ever stop calling?!"

On the other end of the phone, there was silence for a moment, and then the voice said, "I'm looking for Louis; I need him to handle something."

"He's not available; he's sleeping!" Emily shouted and hung up the phone. On the other side, Steven held the phone for a while without speaking and then turned to Jack next to him, saying, "Jack, you know what? Women are trouble! She dared to talk to me like that!"

Steven and Emily had never met in person, but they had heard about each other from others. They didn't expect their first interaction to be so disrespectful, which ignited their anger. Jack, who had his fair share of experiences with Emily, chuckled and said, "If Louis ends up marrying Emily someday, you might have to be her shoe carrier!" Steven glared at Jack and said slowly, "Jack, do you think you'd talk less if you had no teeth?"

Louis slept until 14:00 p.m., and Emily finally woke him up. They went out for a big meal and then took a leisurely walk by the river. Since their relationship was now clear, they walked together more intimately. It was already very dark when they finally returned home. Louis dropped Emily off at her place and then headed to Ghost KTV.

Inside Ghost KTV, Louis saw that there were many guests, and people on the dance floor were moving wildly. Someone spotted Louis and hurried over, respectfully saying, "Louis, Steven, and the others have been waiting for you."

Louis was in a good mood, smiled, and nodded. The guy led him to a private room and stood guard outside. The core members of Nightmare were inside, and two middle-aged men with swollen noses and bruised faces were kneeling on the floor. Louis sat in the middle as Steven and the others asked, "Louis, what should we do with these two?"

Hearing Steven's words, the two men begged loudly, "Louis, don't kill us. We'll give you everything, the business and the money. Please spare us!"

Louis put away his smile and thought seriously. Although these two no longer had power, keeping them around was still a potential danger. Who would keep someone who constantly harbored resentment? Looking at their pitiful and tearful expressions, Louis felt a slight hesitation but quickly dismissed it. He was afraid that they might seek revenge in the future, leaving a seed of trouble for the gang. With determination, he said, "Black card!" Louis didn't want to look at the despair in their eyes and walked out of the private room, reminding himself that he was a villain. Compassion would only make him weak.

Inside the private room, Steven took out two black cards from his pocket and placed them in front of the two men. This also decided their fate. The underworld was a world of survival of the fittest, where the victor was king and the loser was the prey. It was a harsh reality, and this was how the dark world operated. But what difference was there between the so-called "good guys" and the "bad guys"? This had been an unchanging truth for centuries.

On his way home, Louis kept thinking about a question: Could he genuinely like Emily? Could a villain have love? He didn't know the answer, only smiled bitterly to himself, feeling that his hands were stained with blood, and he was becoming like an executioner.

After Nightmare absorbed Levi and Van, the southern territory was entirely under Nightmare's control, except for Smith and White. Nightmare's strength was now on par with Devil and Dragon, and there was a fear that someday, Louis might receive a black notice himself. The reputation of the black notice had spread throughout the entire underworld, and everyone knew it was a death sentence.

A month passed peacefully. During this time, Nightmare restructured its 25 subsidiaries, increasing its members to over a thousand. Louis also brought out the weapons he had seized from Tiger before. When Leo saw the rifles among the weapons, he told Louis that they were not AK47s but part of the AK series, called AK74. Although not considered world-class, their performance was much better than the AK47, and they had a much greater bullet impact.

Jack didn't understand and asked, "Why would they have more power if they use the same bullets?" Jerry explained, "If you look closely, their bullets are different. The 74 bullets are longer and, when fired, spin more, causing severe damage upon hitting the target!"

Jack liked this information and asked for one, saying he wanted to carry it around to look imposing. Eric kicked him and said, "Impressive? Are you afraid people won't know you're in the underworld, or do you want them to know you're planning to rob a bank?"

As the gang's instructor, Leo commanded hundreds of people in daily training at a central location. They shifted to full-day training, with mornings dedicated to physical fitness and combat training, and afternoons for outdoor shooting practice. However, Nightmare had not yet reached the point of arming everyone, and they limited the number to a hundred each time. Jerry managed an undercover group with over a hundred members, both men and women, each skilled in combat and espionage.

During this rare period of reorganization, Louis also spent a wild month with Emily. There was another reason he didn't tell Emily about to numb Devil.

A month later, hundreds of Nightmare members launched a surprise attack on Devil. One side had been plotting for a long time, while the other was caught off guard. Steven and his team took control of Devil's three nightclubs, and others made gains as well. However, Devil was an established and powerful gang, with a leader who was no pushover. Although they were initially caught off guard, they quickly regrouped and launched a counterattack. Just when both sides were locked in a fierce battle, Emmanuel opportunistically attacked the Devil.

In the late night, a massive battle unfolded along the riverbank, involving over a thousand participants. In the end, Dragon and Nightmare emerged victorious due to their numerical advantage.

The three gangs were evenly matched, and it was essentially a two-against-one situation. Devil retreated step by step, forced to adopt an all-encompassing defense, with no strength left for a counterattack. Its downfall was only a matter of time. Dragon's elders repeatedly approached Louis to discuss the division of Devil's territory after its demise. Regarding Devil's 28 subsidiaries, the two elders took a hard stance, believing that the Green Gang had played a decisive role in the battle against Devil and insisted on claiming twenty of them. Finally, even Emmanuel agreed, promising Devil's territory to both Dragon and Nightmare, with each getting half. The two elders were extremely dissatisfied with this, but they had no choice with Emmanuel involved. This dispute temporarily reached a conclusion.

Louis knew that Dragon's two elders had a point; Dragon had indeed played a more significant role in the battle against Devil than Nightmare. Following Emmanuel's suggestion and to secure more benefits, Louis planned a surprise attack on the Devil's headquarters to wipe them out.

Devil's headquarters were located in the east, in a secluded three-story building near the river. The area was sparsely populated, with overgrown vegetation. However, it was conveniently situated near a main road. The building housed at least two hundred people, all loyal Devil members and a formidable force.

This attack on the Devil headquarters was led by Nightmare's elite forces. Each department sent its top 50 guys, and with six departments combined, there were 300 guys. Before departure, Louis once again instructed everyone that speed was crucial in this operation, with a time limit of 30 minutes. Regardless of success or failure, they had to evacuate completely within 30 minutes to avoid alerting the enemy. This was because the Devil still had five other locations to support, and most of the Devil's main forces were likely in those places. Louis had calculated that the closest Devil location was within a half-hour's reach from their current position. If they couldn't withdraw within 30 minutes after the attack, they risked being pinned down by incoming enemy reinforcements. Even if they managed to kill the leader of the Devil, they would suffer significant losses, something Louis wanted to avoid.

At 2:00 a.m., the city was quiet, and most people had already drifted into sleep after a long day. However, Nightmare was silently in action at this time. Louis and the others drove to a forest half a kilometer away from the Devil's headquarters. During the journey, Jerry's phone remained active as Ninja members who were lurking near the enemy headquarters provided real-time updates. Nightmare had complete control over every move made by the Devil headquarters.

Jerry and his team were the first to disembark from the vehicle, moving stealthily toward the main building. Louis and the others followed closely behind, with only Alan and a few others staying behind to guard the vehicles.

Jerry cautiously led the way, and when he spotted a red dot approximately 50 meters ahead, he swiftly dropped to the ground and signaled the others to do the same. He picked up his night vision binoculars and carefully observed. Two Devil guards were stationed there, and the red dot had been from one of them flicking a cigarette. After a careful scan of the surroundings, Jerry didn't spot anyone else, which gave him some assurance.

Jerry turned to the two guys beside him and whispered, "There are two guys ahead. You two follow me quietly, and we must act swiftly and silently. Understood?"

Both of them nodded in agreement. The three of them slowly moved closer, reaching the vicinity of the two guards. Jerry quietly unsheathed his dagger, crawled behind one of the guards, suddenly stood up, covered the guard's mouth with one hand, and swiftly slashed his throat with the other.
