Chapter 25 Commissioner

Chapter 25 Commissioner

Louis returned to Ghost KTV and saw that everyone was there, with hundreds of guys in a bit of chaos. Louis shouted, "Everyone, go back and rest! There's nothing to do today!" Upon hearing Louis say this, the crowd hesitated for a moment, then began to leave. Alan and Henry, however, stayed behind.

Alan approached Louis and asked, "Louis, how is Jack now?"

Louis shook his head and said, "Not well, he hasn't passed the critical stage yet." Alan lowered his voice and said, "Louis, I've thought about what you said, and I suspect someone might be a mole."

Louis asked, "Who?"

Alan looked around to ensure no one else was listening and then whispered, "Viv."

Louis inquired, "Why do you say that?"

"Louis, I've thought it through from start to finish. Right now is when we should be united, and no one would betray Nightmare. Harsh as it sounds, there wasn't even a chance to betray because everyone was together. So, the most likely suspect is Viv. After we left Ghost KTV, she had plenty of time to tip off Slash's guys. But I still don't know her motive for doing so."

Louis listened carefully to Alan's reasoning and nodded, saying, "Let's not make accusations without evidence. Where's Steven?"

Alan replied, "He went out to get some money and gather information."

Louis acknowledged with a nod and walked into a separate room, lay on the sofa, closed his eyes, and contemplated his next steps. Alan and Henry didn't disturb Louis and stood outside, waiting quietly. In the evening, Steven returned with a paper bag, finding Alan and Henry still there. He asked, "Is Louis back?"

Henry nodded and pointed to the room, saying, "He's inside." Steven walked over, knocked on the door, and heard Louis say, "Come in."

"Louis, I've taken care of the tasks you assigned me. Here's $10,000," Steven said, placing the paper bag on the table. He then took out a piece of paper from his jacket pocket and added, "This is the address of the commissioner's house."

It was almost 7:00 PM. Louis stood up, picked up the money and the note, and said to Steven, "I'm going to the commissioner's house to figure out a way to get Eric and the others out first. You guys stay put and don't take any action without me. Nobody is allowed to go after Slash without me!"

Steven nodded in agreement and then said to Louis, "Louis, let me go with you."

Louis shook his head and replied, "No, it's not a good idea for you to come. Besides, having more guys won't help. I'll go alone." With that, Louis walked away, following the steps he had just thought of in his mind. Sooner or later, Slash's people would have to pay for the mistakes they had made with blood.

According to the address on the note, Louis quickly found the residential area of the Commissioner's house. All the residents in this neighborhood were high-ranking officials. Louis arrived at the Commissioner's doorstep and rang the doorbell. A woman's voice came from inside, asking, "Who is it?"

Louis tried to lower his voice as much as possible and said, "Hello, I'm looking for Commissioner Dante."

The woman inside asked, "Do you have business with him?"

"I have some urgent matters that need Commissioner Dante's attention."

The woman inside understood what he meant right away; it was almost always someone coming to offer a gift. She didn't ask further and opened the door, saying, "Please come in."

Louis looked at the woman who opened the door. She appeared to be around forty years old and was dressed beautifully. Louis politely nodded and said, "Hello, Madam."

The woman hadn't expected such a young visitor, a handsome young man at that. She hesitated for a moment but found Louis to be well-behaved. She smiled and said, "Come on in."

Louis took off his shoes and entered the living room. Seeing that there was no one in the living room, he asked, "Madam, is Commissioner Dante not at home?"

The woman said, "He's at home, but he's in the bathroom. He'll be out in a moment. Please wait here." Louis thanked her and sat on the sofa. The woman poured him a cup of tea and placed it on the coffee table.

Before long, a middle-aged man in his forties, with thinning hair but still looking energetic, emerged from the bathroom. When he saw Louis, he turned to the woman and asked, "Who is he?"

The woman smiled and said, "He's here for business with you. He's quite young, but maybe you can help him." She seemed to have a favorable impression of Louis and spoke on his behalf.

Commissioner Dante nodded and sat across from Louis, asking, "Young man, what brings you here to see me? "

Louis hesitated for a moment, his eyes glancing at the woman, but he didn't speak. Commissioner Dante was a discerning person and said to the woman, "Why don't you go inside and watch TV? I need to discuss something with this young man."

The woman wasn't very pleased but went back inside and closed the door. Commissioner Dante, seeing his wife leave, leaned back on the sofa and said, "Now, what do you have to say?"

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Louis didn't want to waste any time and got straight to the point, "I believe you're aware of the violent incident that occurred last night, right?"

Commissioner Dante raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is that why you're here?" Louis nodded and said, "I hope you can release all the guys you've arrested and declare them innocent."

Commissioner Dante's expression darkened, and he replied, "I think you're overestimating my abilities. I'm sorry, but I can't help you with this."

Louis said, "I know you can. Otherwise, I'll find someone else." With that, Louis took out an envelope from his pocket and emptied its contents, spreading a stack of money on the coffee table. Commissioner Dante was taken aback; he hadn't expected this young man to bring so much money. He stared at the pile of banknotes, tempted for a moment. However, he quickly changed his mind, looked at Louis, and shook his head, saying, "I'm sorry, but I really can't assist you with this. Please leave."

"Isn't there any room for negotiation?"

"There's nothing I can do about this."

Louis's gaze turned cold as he asked, "How many years will my friend spend in prison?"

Commissioner Dante thought for a moment and replied, "To be honest with you, your friend has no chance of going to prison. If everything goes as planned, he'll be sentenced to death."

Louis was shocked and said, "That can't be! He was just involved in a brawl. How could he be sentenced to death?"

Commissioner Dante sighed and said, "It's not just a brawl. Your friend is facing charges of robbery, grievous bodily harm, and more. Even under normal circumstances, he'd receive a life sentence. The situation here is more complicated than you can understand."

Louis massaged his temples and said, "I don't understand, and that's why I came to you for help. I want to see my friend safely back tomorrow."

Commissioner Dante didn't seem pleased with Louis's words and said, "I've already told you, I can't help with this. Take your money and leave."

Louis didn't move and sneered, saying, "Commissioner Dante, you still haven't given me a satisfactory answer! With just a word from you, all this money can be yours, and there will be more benefits for you in the future. If you don't agree, that's fine too. It'll feel like you're looking down on me, and I'll immediately take this money and find a hitman to do the job for you! You decide for yourself! And don't take my words as a joke, I never joke with people who aren't my friends!" After saying that, Louis stared at him with a cold gleam in his eyes.

"He's not bluffing me!" Commissioner Dante shivered, looking at Louis with a chilling expression, feeling like it wasn't a look that a human could produce. Commissioner Dante was genuinely starting to feel afraid. He sat back down and said, "This is really difficult for me!"

Louis remained expressionless and said, "Whether it's difficult or not is your problem. I just want to see my guys back by tomorrow!"

Commissioner Dante didn't say anything, took out a cigarette from his pocket, and silently smoked it. After some internal deliberation and hesitation, he finally made up his mind.

Louis didn't rush him and sat on the couch, waiting for Commissioner Dante to make a decision. Time passed by second by second, and the room became stiflingly silent. Commissioner Dante smoked five cigarettes in a row. After extinguishing the last cigarette, he had made up his mind. He looked at Louis and said, "You can go! I'll take the money." After that, he closed his eyes, leaning back on the couch, and remained silent.

Louis said, "Thank you," without saying much more, and then turned to leave.

After leaving Commissioner Dante's house, Louis finally breathed a sigh of relief. His back was soaked with sweat. In truth, he wasn't entirely sure how things would turn out. Things had gone relatively smoothly, and he felt somewhat relaxed, knowing that Eric should be safe now. He silently prayed that Jack would also make it through the dangerous period unharmed. Louis got into a car and returned to Ghost KTV. He felt dizzy in the car and desperately wanted to sleep, but there was no time for rest. There were too many things he needed to handle now.

After returning to Ghost KTV, Steven rushed over to ask, "How did it go?" Steven felt a sense of guilt in his heart, thinking that if it weren't for his recklessness and if he had listened to Alan back then, Jack, Eric, and the others wouldn't have had any trouble.

Louis whispered, "Don't worry, he's fine!" Seeing Louis's grim expression, Steven quickly asked, "Louis, are you okay? You..." Louis interrupted him and smiled, saying, "Don't worry, I'm fine!"

Steven still looked concerned at Louis, and Louis said, "These days are going to be busy, it looks like I'll have to rely on you for a lot of things!"

Steven said, "This is what I should do. What do you need me to do, Louis?"

Louis thought for a moment and said, "First, tomorrow, you'll help me buy a mobile phone." He paused and continued, "Actually, buy a few more, one for each of the key members of the organization. That way, it'll be easier for everyone to stay in touch. Second, Finger has agreed, and the goods will be delivered in a few days. I plan to have him deliver the goods to the school; the police usually won't suspect that place." After that, Louis turned to Henry and said, "Henry, this task is yours. When the goods arrive, you'll coordinate with the guys at the school to receive them." Henry nodded in agreement.

Louis paused for a moment, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes. He continued, "Third, find out everything about Slash. How many people are there? How many bases? What are their usual activities? You need to gather all this information and report it back to me clearly, Steven. I want them to pay double for their mistakes, and I want the other gangs around to see what consequences await if they cross us!"

Upon hearing Louis's words, Steven's confidence slowly returned, and he declared loudly, "Louis, you can count on me for this!"

Louis nodded and asked, "Is Viv not here today?"

Steven was puzzled by why Louis mentioned Viv. He wasn't present when Louis and Alan had their conversation at the hospital, so he didn't know that Louis and the others suspected Viv. Seeing Steven's perplexed expression, Alan explained, "Steven, we suspect that Viv is the one who betrayed us."

Steven thought about it for a moment but couldn't quite grasp why. Louis smiled and said, "Don't let anyone else know about this; otherwise, it could be problematic if it reaches Viv's ears." Steven nodded in agreement.

Louis said, "Alright then, everyone's had a long day. Let's go home and rest. If everything goes well tomorrow, Eric should be back!"

Steven and the other two were visibly relieved. Louis bid farewell to them and headed home. When he arrived at his doorstep, he suddenly slapped his forehead and muttered to himself, "How could I forget about her?" Louis had intended to bring a girl back from Finger's place, but with everything that happened today, he completely forgot about her. Shaking his head, Louis looked at his front door and sighed. He came out of the building and went to Spring KTV.

There were still a few guys at Spring KTV. Louis walked in and asked, "Is the girl I brought here okay?"

Someone replied, "She's fine. Louis, she fell asleep not long after you left, and she's been sleeping ever since." Louis acknowledged and walked into the inner room. He gently pushed the door open and saw the girl still asleep. He smiled to himself, thinking that she was able to sleep even in an unfamiliar place.

Louis approached the bed, pondering his options. He couldn't leave the girl here by herself, so where could he take her to sleep tonight? Should he bring her to his own home? Louis gently nudged her, saying, "Wake up, wake up!"
