I sat there for I don't even know how long. It was only after hearing nothing for about an hour or two that I got out I then ran outside to see if my parents were right.

What I saw horrified me. My parents were dead. Both were decapitated in the same manner all the mages were, I just stood there in shock not knowing what to do. I was confused and scared I didn't know what to do. I cried my eyes out for 30 minutes before I knew I had to move on I had to find James or any remaining Mages. I first walked over to my best friend's house the thought that he could be dead not even crossing my mind. He got Legendary and Unique Gifts no way he could be dead. Unfortunately, I was wrong once more because I saw him on the floor just outside his house with a sword through his chest. It felt like I should have mourned him more but I didn't, I just continued walking on towards the only other place I knew. The Royal Castle.

Walking through the city was disgusting, everyone around me was dead either cut with a sword or decapitated. I felt nauseous as I arrived at the Castle, to my relief two guards were at the entrance guarding the place.

"Stop there! Identify yourself." The one guard said

"Rudeos It's a child, he must've hidden the entire time and is just looking for shelter." The second guard said. I decided to Identify myself anyway.

"My name's Arthur Gresly, sir!" I said with as much confidence as I could muster at this point. They seemed convinced enough that I wasn't an enemy and let me through, before leaving they told me to wait in the courtyard with all the other survivors. I was quite nervous thinking there would be no one left after the massacre that happened last night. But to my surprise, there were thousands of people in the huge Royal courtyard. I searched a bit trying to find any of my classmates or at least someone I knew until I saw her; Scarlett, she didn't even look afraid. She also saw me and greeted me with a smile which almost made me faint.

"Hi there uhh"

"Hello! I didn't introduce myself properly last time did I hahaha uh anyway the name is Arthur" I said fumbling a bit over my words

"Ah yes Arthur glad to see a familiar face, last night was quite a tragedy, me and my parents quickly got away though!" She said with a smile. Hearing her mention her parents brought my mood down once more. "Where's your friend? I remember you had a tall friend that always followed you around." This girl didn't know when to stop.

"My parents and James died in the massacre" I tried saying with the least amount of sadness in the voice

"Oh I'm sorry for your loss"

"It's alright" I was holding back tears at this point so I decided I should end this conversation. "I should get going see you around"

"Mhm see you later"

Just as I ended the conversation we heard someone start talking loudly.

"Everyone please settle down, the King will now be speaking to you all!" There was quite a bit of buzz at that piece of news.

"Hello, my people! The tragedy that was last night scarred us all, everyone here will have a home here in the castle until we can prove the safety of the outside! There will also be applications for Magic Academy and Knight training for anyone willing to help with the cause!"

After the King departed back into the Castle I tried thinking of all my options. I could attend the Knight training since I have this Gift that correlates with swordsmanship, now that I think about it my only option other than sitting here and doing nothing since I have no talent for magic I ton't be able to attend the academy either. I knew Scarlett was going to attend there and it would be nice seeing a familiar face now and again but I had to think about myself and how to get stronger. I will kill the woman who killed my parents. The problem is that I have no idea how to use any of the Gifts that I have. Do they use mana? Or is it just a natural element like stamina? Too many questions and not enough answers. For now, I'll just see how much help this Swordsmanship gift is. This means I'll attend the Knight training and see how I match up with my current opponents and knights of the Castle. Just thinking of fighting one of the Generals or First Knight makes me all giddy and excited about how fun that will be, I need to be stronger than anyone if I want to protect those I hold dear. Even knowing I have no one left... ill protect this city with my life. It's the last thing I have left in this world except for Scarlett but I don't know if I could count her as someone I hold dear. I laughed a bit to myself at this train of thought, such an optimist right James?
