Chapter 6: Death

Chapter 6: Death

Visdre gazed upon his sea of consciousness and looked at the insane image that had been constructed.

"Let's begin."

He returned to his home and got in bed.

Visdre realized that the source of the supernatural in this world was right in front of him. It was this 'technique'. It was the growing rotating image in his sea of consciousness.

It was the book "Path of Somnus: God's Death".

"If regular meditation and research won't work. I'll simply mess with the source!"

He checked his current progress.

[ECHO]: Stage 80 - 49%

There were 80 different layers to his sea of consciousness now. It was like an intricate maze. Merely 'gazing' upon it caused confusion.

Visdre rotated it once in his mind's eye and appeared in his source castle. This was the white room.

He sat down on the ground and focused on his sea of consciousness. He manually 'pulled' at the fractal. As it stretched and tore. He felt a pain unlike anything he had ever felt before.

[ECHO]: Error! Technique is collapsing!

"No!"

Visdre refused to give up the progress he had made. He wouldn't let anyone, including himself take away his future.

"I've already experienced the collapse before..."

He tried to hype himself up, but the pain was unimaginable. If there wasn't a disconnect between his body and his source castle. That body would be covered in sweat.

As the technique fell apart. It was much bigger then when he switched from automatic to manual mode early on when he barely had the technique developed at all.

Information flooded his mind. But he ignored it and memorized the fractals. As it was torn apart. He was imagining a perfect copy.

He was creating another version.

His body in the source castle was in a poor state. If he had a mirror, he would see his eyes were bloodshot and he was covered in sweat.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

The book on the podium started to glow and he felt a cool numb sensation travel down his spine.

What did he do?

He now had two copies of the visualization technique in his sea of consciousness.

He then rotated the technique manually and gained consciousness of his body.

He could feel himself awake in reality.

But he also felt himself aware in his source castle.

"It worked!"

Things were getting interesting.

He had successfully separated his spirit body from his physical body.

He felt a bit anxious at this development. So he went to bed...

But something insane happened.

"I can't sleep?"

He couldn't sleep! He tried relaxing...

"Maybe it is my nerves..."

He didn't sleep the next day.

Nor the day after that.

A week went by...

He wasn't tired at all!

"What have I done?"

[ECHO]: Stage 86 - 37%

Visdre looked up this issue online.

"Fatal familial insomnia"

Visdre noticed that he wasn't simply sleep deprived.

"I could beat the world record for not sleeping..."

"I was able to do something new that wasn't mentioned in the technique. This proves that I am correct. This technique can be modified..."

"But what happens when I rotate the technique manually now?"

Visdre tried to rotate it manually. He was successful, but nothing happened.

"I suppose I already am in my 'source castle'."

It was quite a bizarre experience... he was controlling two bodies at once. He looked down at his hands in reality and in the source castle.

"My hands?"

What he saw shocked him.

His hands in the white room were turning into fog.

He focused on them and they condensed back into his normal hands.

"What is happening to me?"

He went to work the next day and was doing his job. But something unfortunate happened. The fire suppression system in the warehouse malfunctioned and wasn't able to be activated. The extinguisher used also malfunctioned.

The odds of both not working was incredibly small.

A small fire became a behemoth and the entire warehouse was ignited into flames. About half of the people escaped.

Visdre was almost at the exit.

He saw one of his coworkers on the floor with a part of the ceiling collapsed on them. They were severely burnt. But they were alive.

Visdre wasn't thinking straight and the adrenaline made him turn away from the exit and rush to help them.

He used all his strength and barely lifted the rubble off of them. His hands were burning. But this pain was nothing compared to ripping his visualization technique apart.

They seemed to have a problem with their legs. They couldn't move despite having the rubble lifted off of them.

"CRAWL!"

Visdre yelled at them as his lungs felt like they were on fire. They did as he said and crawled out right as his strength gave out and the rubble collapsed again.

Visdre picked them up and ran as fast as possible to the exit.

But the ceiling collapsed blocking the exit.

He thought to himself:

"That fog I created in the white room..."

Visdre had already seen something supernatural.

"I just have to do the impossible!"

He tried to will a fog in his hands to put out the fire. But nothing happened.

"Work! Work!"

He was feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing at this point.

His clothes caught on fire and he dropped to the ground and rolled around. But it was of no use. He had severe burns all over his body. The fire continued to burn him.

The person he was initially carrying was already a corpse.

"I... will not die..."

He died.
