Chapter 21: Contamination

Chapter 21: Contamination

Visdre looked around and found that he was standing next to an altar.

"The respawn mechanics seem to be working..."

Visdre had designed the initial blueprint of the world. But he had allowed the aboriginals of the world to 'play' around the world. There were various rules and restrictions he had created. But the world was shaped in the interest of these natives.

This was the first time they were coming into contact with a player.

The priest that presided over this temple seemed quite excited.

"Welcome to our world adventurer! I am to be your guide."

"Thank you!"

The priest talked to him about the general situation of the town and gave him a guild charm.

"You can use this item in any temple to transport you to the guildhall."

Visdre wasn't too interested in checking out the guildhall. He knew that it was located on an island outside of the main continent.

Each town had a dock. You could use the boats to travel to almost any town in the mainland. He decided to go on a walk.

As he was walking around the town. He heard whispers and saw people pointing their fingers at him. News had spread among the NPCs that a player had been born.

This existence was outside of the scope of the blessed and unblessed. Some wondered what the purpose of a player was. Were the rumors true? Could they truly go anywhere in the world?

Besides certain mechanics. This was like a real world.

Visdre 'played' in this world for a few weeks. He noticed some problems and inconsistencies in the world that needed to be fixed.

The first main problem was the time ratio. It was absolutely ridiculous at the moment. You could spend years in this world and only a few seconds would have passed in reality. This had to be fixed.

The reason this was a problem was due to death kicking the person out of the game. A few seconds of rem sleep was the equivalent to days in this world.

Somebody that died. By the time they respawned. Decades would've passed. This creates a huge gap between players. Imagine having centuries to level-up and explore the world. Then imagine missing out on this chance due to accidentally dying.

Visdre also noticed some very unrealistic characteristics.

For example. The player never becomes hungry. It never tires or needs to sleep.

Visdre directly added a hunger system. He also added a stamina system. This brought even more issues. For example. When the player logs out. Does their body disappear and then reappear when they join again?

Originally. The player would disappear entirely. There also wasn't a mechanism to log out besides death or mastering source.

Visdre changed the time ratio. He left history as it was.

"The time ratio will be 1:2. One hour in reality is equivalent to two hours in the game world. There is a night and day cycle. With the stamina system. Players will slowly build up fatigue. Doing different task builds up different levels of fatigue. Once you hit maximum fatigue. You will pass out."

"Players will also need to buy houses or sleep in inns/taverns."

"The body will no longer vanish when the player isn't in the game world. This means players will need to find a safe zone. They will slowly recover fatigue as they sleep. When asleep in the game world. The player will be conscious in reality."

Visdre noticed more problems. So he changed the mechanism that kicked the player on death.

Visdre went into the wilderness and jumped off a cliff.

He splattered on impact. He wasn't directly kicked from the game.

[System]: You have died!

[System]: You may respawn in 8 hours!

[System]: Disconnect? Y/N?

Now. The person would see this message and wouldn't wake up in reality. From this screen. They could directly log out.

"Yes."

Visdre tested this and woke up.

He stretched and felt a bit weird.

Weeks had passed in the game world. But he had only been asleep for a few seconds.

Now that he had changed the time flow rate. This wouldn't be the case anymore. He continued his life as a mental patient. But there was a bit of confusion and chaos among the other patients.

One of them reported a weird dream that they felt they spent days in. It wasn't like a dream at all. They were fully lucid. It also didn't have the chaos of a real dream. Everything was consistent.

In this dream. They never grew tired or hungry. But they could feel pain. But near the end of the dream. They started to feel hungry and tired.

One of them died from starvation as they had ventured deep into the wilderness. While another died due to poisonous mushrooms.

They saw a screen on death and were able to wake up.

The doctor didn't think much of just a dream. What baffled them was that there were six people that reported this weird dream! There were very different experiences. But the one thing that was consistent was that it was like another world.

It wasn't limited to just the patients.

One of their own was affected!

Visdre also reported the weird dream.

They tried to find the connection between the patients and what gave them the ability to enter this other world. But the group meeting with the guided meditation wasn't recorded.

The head doctor reported this to his superior.

The first thought was that this was some sort of disease similar to mad cow disease, but a spreadable version. Making the person become hyper sensitive to stimulus in dreams.

Those affected were discharged from the ward.

If this disease could spread...

This thought scared the officials in charge.

Visdre and those that reported the dream were taken to a special hospital for highly contagious subjects.

Those that handled the daily affairs of the patients were wearing special hazard suits.

Visdre thought that this was an interesting thing.

"By isolating those affected. They think they can stop the 'spread' of this disease?"

Visdre laughed. He had a plan!

The government didn't kill those contaminated. They instead studied them. It was as if their basic human rights were stripped from them.

Visdre sat in his sealed room and meditated. But in reality. He had connected his mind to Mark's body.

----------------------------------------

Mark's POV:

[System]: {

Name: Mark,

Title: Hacker,

Class: Refuser,

Level: 1,

HP: 100/100,

MP: 100/100,

Strength: 10,

Perception: 10,

Agility: 10,

Vitality: 10,

Intelligence: 10,

}

Mark could innately feel the source of other players. He was trapped in the golden room. There was one huge hack that he had that others would never be able to grasp.

When Visdre modified the rules of the world. Such as removing the inventory and soulbound items. Also removing the tutorial.

Mark wasn't affected! He kept his special items equipped. He also still had an inventory. While other players would need to complete quest or buy storage items. He was ahead of the game!

Some new rules did apply to him however.

He would now need to eat and sleep.

By observing the fluctuations of the sources of other players. He successfully grasped how to spawn outside of his custom temple.

He eventually starved to death in this room. You starve way faster then in real life. So it is wise to always have food with you. You don't instantly die when you run out of food. But your health will start to drop.

Mark purposefully did exercises to further drain his energy. So that he could die and respawn in a proper temple.

He wasn't kicked this time however.

[System]: You have died!

[System]: You may respawn in 8 hours!

[System]: Disconnect? Y/N?

"Yes."

He didn't use his class perk to forcefully resurrect.

He woke up. But he wasn't in his bed! He was sitting at his computer for some reason...

Visdre had taken control of his body while he was starving in the game world.

What did Visdre do?

He had complete control over Mark's soul now. So he fished through his memories. He had access to all his banking information.

Visdre had a plan.

Visdre used Mark's body to record him saying:

'01010111 01101001 01100101 01101100 01100100 01100101 01110010 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01000111 01101111 01100100 00100111 01110011 00100000 01000100 01100101 01100001 01110100 01101000 00101110 00100000 01000011 01110010 01100101 01100001 01110100 01101111 01110010 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01010011 01111001 01110011 01110100 01100101 01101101 00101110 00100000 01010011 01110101 01110010 01110110 01101001 01110110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01000110 00110101 00110101 00110101 00101110 00100000 01001001 00100000 01100001 01100011 01100011 01100101 01110000 01110100 00100000 01011011 01110000 01101100 01100001 01111001 01100101 01110010 01011101 00100000 01110001 01110101 01100001 01101100 01101001 01100110 01101001 01100011 01100001 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110 01110011 00100001'

Wielder of God's Death. Creator of the System. Survivor of F555. I accept [player] qualifications!

He sped up this audio file so that it only took a second.

Visdre then commissioned an artist to create him a logo.

He was making a brand.

He soon had a animation for his logo.

Multiversal Ascension

In the animation. He had the binary be in the background of the text.

He edited together the audio file with his logo animation. He then went to a popular video site and created an account.

He uploaded it.

He remembered that "Path of Somnus: God's Death" was on a special site meant for webnovels. So he created an account and wrote a synopsis.

The title of the book he wrote was called 'The Multiversal Sutra'.

In the synopsis. He described a cultivation method. This had to do with unblocking the meridians and balancing the chakras. It described how one would refine Qi using the acupoints in the body and mastering it.

This was all complete bullshit.

In the book. He described a breathing method that apparently couldn't be described in words. So there was a link to a video where he would demonstrate it.

The video it linked to was different then his brand video.

But the first few seconds. He had his audio of the binary play before talking about the subject.

In the video. The content mainly described how he would upload the method later. His book didn't get much traction at all.

It seemed not many people were interested in cultivation. Especially on a site where everything was fiction.

Visdre felt the souls and fragments he was connected to. Not a single new one had appeared!

"Behold! The power of advertisements!"

He directly bought a 50$ ad for his webnovel. He then felt that Mark had died. He was about to wake up!

Visdre cleared the history and lost control of the body as Mark became conscious in the real world.

"Why am I at my computer?"

There was a few problems. Visdre had used Mark's banking information! Although the history was cleared. Things were still logged in his bank.

Visdre wasn't a hacker and couldn't just magically get rid of his evidence. But he could influence Mark's memories and cause him to overlook this issue.

Noah Bak's POV:

Noah was looking at the recently updated on the site he read english originals.

One novel caught his attention.

"Multiversal Sutra?"

He clicked it and there was hardly any information. But his interest was peaked.

'Prologue - Breathing Method'.

He read through the novel and was fascinated by the cultivation method. Unfortunately, cultivation was just a fantasy. But he was still curious.

"There's a video?"

He clicked the link and heard some distorted whisperings from his headphones. This lasted for only a second. The brand animation was quite interesting.

"It seems to be binary."

The video was just a placeholder it seemed. He didn't learn how to do the breathing method. He commented on the video asking for the real method.

He then downloaded it and put it into an editor. He had slowed down the whispers. But it was too stretched to understand clearly.

"It seems to be repeating one and zero."

The animation was relatively high quality. He watched it many times and read the binary in the background.

But nothing happened.

He then went to sleep.

[System]: Do you accept system integration? Y/N?

"What?"
