Chapter 37 - Kill the Daruma President III

They drew near the Daruma President. As the planed whisked through the air, the soldier started to line up his shot.

Poof

The rocket was launched and like an auto aiming system was controlling its movements, it went straight for the eye. But just before the rocket hit, the Daruma President closed his eyelid. The rocket exploded but it didn’t cause any damage, the presidents bodys was bloody strong.

Above his head floated a HP gauge, it had 3 red health bars with 30 hearts each and 1 armor bar that was grey and had 10 hearts. It was vastly superior in comparison to the other Daruma with only one health bar and 10 hearts. The rocket done some damage but it would take 99 more shots to take down his 10 hearts of armor. Luckily, the rocket launcher seemed to have an infinite amount of ammo.

The bosses’ health was slowly being whittled down as Lucifer skillfully maneuvered the controls and dodged the jumping and biting of the Boss class NPC. Minute after minute went by, using his quick reactions and the soldiers auto aim bot the bosses armor bar was finally wilted down to nothing.

Once the armor bar was gone the Daruma President screamed and kicked up a storm of dust. Its skin started to peel, revealing a brown coat of skin underneath.

“That’s it! Aim for the eyes again, go, now!”

They NPC soldier quickly lined up the shot and started shooting endlessly. Each rocket caused an astounding one heart of damage now. And it only had 3 health bars of 30 hearts each.

‘Hey, we are doing pretty well. Maybe we can kill it on the first try.’ A smirk appeared on Lucifs face as he thought about the prospects of killing it. But how could this test be that easy?

Once the presidents’ first health bar of 30 hearts was taken, its golden horns lit up and turned into giant three legged golden crows. The birds squawked as they flew around the head of the Daruma Boss like a fiery halo. They moved so fast that their shadows created trails of fire.

“Sarg, there it is. Those horns are the precious treasure we have been seeking, the reason we established a base on this world!”

But Lucif had no time to pay attention to the babblings of this soldier because a sense of deadly crisis overcame him when the birds appeared.

Dodge, dodge, dodge, hit

“Damn...”

Beep, beep, beep

A health bar appeared over the top of the plane screen as he saw the ten green hearts, one shockingly turned red. ‘Tsk, looks like I can only take 9 more shots from those birds.’

His mind started working overtime as he tried to find a solution. “Aim for the birds first, they are the bigger threat.”

Poof, poof, dodge, dodge, poof, poof, dodge, boom

The birds were agile, quick and hard to hit. But he slowly adjusted to their fireballs and dodged them one after another. Their attack pattern wasn’t random, this was a game and the birds were programmed NPCs. Once he memorized their fight pattern he could take advantage of the gaps in-between. Despite this it was still incredibly hard to accomplish the task before him. The boss and the birds showed great team work. Lucif couldn’t afford to get hit by the Boss because one hit from this overpowered King was enough to kill him. In this way he was forced to take a fireball hit every couple of minutes while waiting for the gaps in their attack patterns to appear.

Boom

One of the four, three legged golden crows fell from the sky in a ball of flame and turned into a golden horn that landed on the ground with a thump. It’s golden radiance no longer visible. Its skin was now a grey ash color.  On the surface of the horn were numerous engravings and patterns that moved and breathed like sentient machine parts.

Lucifer had finally managed to eliminate one of the birds but he had lost 8 hearts in the process. Now he had to do it three more times. It was impossible, they were going to die at this rate.

“Damn, try doing something with that shield. It’s just sitting there being useless.”

“You want me to use the shield?”

“Yes, just make it do something.”

The sarg stopped shooting and picked up the shield, he then push a button on it and a field of light spread out across the airplane. The health bar on the plane increase from 1 to 3, it now had 20 more hearts.

“Argh, what? Why didn’t you do this before.” Lucif angrily berated the soldier.

“You never told me to sarg.”

“…”

Lucifer turned around and ignored him, then focused on dodging while the sarg shot the birds down.

After 40 minutes of back and forth fighting the shield covering the plane was destroyed. But so were the birds. They started taking significantly less damage once a bird was dead and the gaps opened up faster without their complete team covering their backs. Once 3 of the birds had fallen, it was many times easier to kill the last one. When the fourth bird fell, the other three horns turned into liquid grey and fell to the ground creating a silver puddle. The silver liquid spread out in a machine like pattern creating lines across the ground, trees that touched the liquid were instantly drained of life and turned into ash. The golden splendor started to radiate again as more and more vegetation was absorbed by the horns.

‘Damn, it’s regenerating. We have to finish this quick!’

When his final horn had fallen, the president roared in anger and started to attack faster and more precise than before. The plane was left with only 6 hearts and it was getting more dangerous as time went on. But through some miracle they had persisted and dodged every single strike, despite many being close calls.

They started to focus their fire on the boss until finally, after another 20 minutes the third health bar was completely emptied. All 10 armor hearts were gone, followed by the first 30 hearts of the second health bar. The Daruma summoned the golden crows but they fell and now his last 30 hearts were gone. All 100 hearts were destroyed but he was still standing.

“Why is he still standing? He has no health left. What’s going to happen next?”
