Chapter 4: Thomas

Chapter 4: Thomas

Saturday morning she met up with Thomas, her ex boyfriend, and his new boyfriend Jace.

She met Thomas in high-school, so they've been friends for a long time. They were misfits fitting together. One day, when they were playing games together through LAN, he stopped and looked at her.

“Hey, Raven? Can I tell you something?”

Raven was still focused on the game, so she just nodded.

“And you promise you won't judge?”

Raven stopped the game and looked at him, as if he just said something utterly ridiculous, “What is it?”

“You know how- Well, um. Okay so you know-”

“Spit it out already!”

“I'm gay.”

Raven just shrugged her shoulders, she had her suspicions for a while now, she had that it-takes-one-to-know-one. She could recognize a lot of herself in him, just in the opposite direction. How he talked around not having a girlfriend and just agreed with whatever advice the speaker gave to him. How he looked into the direction of whoever just said something homophobic, as if to remember their face on the list of unsafe people, how he didn't look interested in any of the girls in their class, and how he was more progressive than other boys his age.

“And I'm a lesbian,” she finally responded.

“Oh, ohhhh. Huh, that explains a lot.”

Raven cringed, “What’s that supposed to mean?”

But instead of answering Thomas just laughed from relief, and Raven soon joined in. It was nice to finally have someone she could share that side of her with.

Years later, when they started college, though each their own, Thomas's parents started suspecting something was amiss. So Raven decided to help a friend out and so they started fake dating, with an agreement that they'll stop as soon as Thomas gets out of the house, or either of them find someone they want to pursue. They started locking the doors when they got together at either of their houses, and then just played games late into the night. As they were real friends, they didn't have to fake their closeness, even if they did fake the romantic part of it.

“Hi, Raven!” Jace greeted her at the door, with Thomas right beside him.

Raven greeted them both and stepped into the house. “Wow, you decorated it really nicely,” Raven looked around the house. It was obvious that Thomas's new boyfriend was the one who did it, as Thomas himself was never that good at decorating, hell, it would be a surprise if he even cleaned his room or made his bed.

“Thank you, I watched some Void videos and got inspired,” said Thomas.

Raven looked at him with a confused face, “You did it? You? Damn Jace, you really are a good influence.”

Thomas laughed, “Actually, he is even more horrible at cleaning than I was, so I knew I had to step up and do it myself. And then I watched so many videos about cleaning, that I also got recommended some home renovation videos, and one thing left to another and-”

“And he gave the whole house a makeover in a week,” finished Jace.

“Well, should we go play those games or not?” Raven asked a bit impatiently.

“Should we play Heart Goes Doki? I mean it is a dating simulation game, but I've heard it's very strategic and overall just well done,” suggested Jace.

Thomas and Raven both sighed. Jace looked from one to another, trying to see what he said wrong.

“Darling, Raven made that game and well she didn't get properly compensated for it, so it's a bit of a touchy subject.”

“Yeah… I don't really like to think about it anymore, I figured it's not worth my time,” added Raven.

“Let's play another game then,” Jace responded.

They all sat at their respective computers and started playing Heaven Killers together until noon, when Raven had plans with Bella.
