Chapter 2: Birdy

Chapter 2: Birdy

Raven arrived home late as usual, but today she didn't stop at FriesFries, she didn't need fast food to drown her feelings in. She's made it. She finally proposed an idea that Daphne liked. Even if she almost didn't say it. Oh well.

She drove onto her property and then stopped the car. The rented apartment wasn't much, but it was hers. And that was one thing she wasn't afraid of losing, as it was rented out by one of her oldest friends, Bella, and these two were as close as sisters. Speaking of which-

“Hey! Bella! Guess what! She liked my new idea!”

Raven enthusiastically spoke through the phone.

“Birdy, I knew you could make it! Which one was that again?”

“A new one!” And then Raven explained everything from the talk she had with her boss, to her new game idea, and how she was unsure of it at first.

“So one month until you present them with a prototype?”

Raven sighed, “Yeah.”

Bella grabbed her phone with the other hand, “Listen Birdy, you've made a prototype for a game in a day once.”

“Yeah, but that was an easier game. Hell I've made one in ten minutes just before I had to turn it in,” she laughed thinking about it.

“So, you can do it! Now you have a whole month, that's way more than enough. You just need to figure out a way to make a prototype for this very complicated game, no biggie. I mean, I'm sure you'll find a way.”

Raven smiled, “Thanks, you're right. I can make it. I'll just figure a way to do it. I mean making games is all about problem solving.”

“That's the spirit! Now I have to go, my little boy is very sleepy.”

“Ah, sorry. I'm not gonna keep him waiting then. Bye!”

Raven stepped into her apartment and locked the doors behind her. She yawned, guess Bella's son wasn't the only one who's tired. She started the shower and washed all the sweat away. Tomorrow will be a new day, and she'll have to find a way to make that prototype in a month, somehow.

Raven laid down, but she couldn't fall asleep. She was too excited to start making that game. She turned to the side, but just how could she actually do it? I mean she for sure couldn’t make it openworld for the showcase. That would have to be added at a later date. She rolled to the other side, and what should it be about? It was a bit too cold, so she stood up from her bed and went to take another blanket from her closet. Well, maybe instead of a murder mystery it could be… Something?

She couldn't just roll in her bed for all eternity, she had to sleep. But she just couldn't. So, Raven stood up and walked to the medicine cabinet in her bathroom and grabbed some over the counter sleeping pills, and went back to sleep.

The alarm sang that one, now annoying, melody, making Raven jump out of her bed to stop it. Today was going to be her first day working on the now approved game. But there was still that feeling of uncertainty bothering her. Where should she even start?

She put on her work clothes and started preparing breakfast for herself. Just think of a way to make this goddamn game. It’s that simple. Raven walked into the building she works at and greeted her co-workers on the way to her desk. She stretched her hands, like they do in the movies, and turned her computer on. But no matter how much she thought about it, she couldn't come up with any ideas on how to go about it, and soon it was time for the lunch break.

“So, how is your work going?” Alexander asked Raven who was still thinking of a way to make that prototype.

“I managed to make something Daphne approves of, but it's so complicated I don't know where to even start.”

Alexander thought about it, “Well if it's too complicated to make the whole experience just make one level.”

Raven sighed, “I have an open world game, it won’t really work that way.”

“Then make a small space, where you can showcase the most important stuff, like combat and all that.”

Raven thought about it for a few seconds, “I think I can work with that. Thanks.”

When she was back at her computer she opened a game engine she usually uses for making prototypes, and started making some basic code to set up the 3D space.
