“You aren't going home?” Daphne's voice broke Raven’s concentration.
“Ah, I didn't notice it's this late already.”
Daphne smiled, “Well, I'm glad I can see you working so passionately on something.”
Raven blushed, or at least she thought she did. It's not as if her boss never said nice things to her, but this is the first time when she wasn't too preoccupied worrying about losing her job. And that feeling was nice.
“Thank you. I went ahead with my suggestion, and Alexander helped me see a way to make this game prototype in a month. And as long as I can find the main focus of the story, everything else will be a breeze.”
“Well, it is kinda late, and I have to close the whole building down for the weekend, so it'd be nice if you could finish up and go home.”
Raven scrambled closing and saving everything on her computer, as she apologized, “Ah, sorry. Just give me a second.”
When she finished up Daphne locked the main doors and stopped, as she tried to find something in her bag.
“Ah, here they are! I got a pair of tickets for a theater show, and I don’t really watch theater, so you can have it. Go watch it with your boyfriend. I heard it's popular with younger couples.”
“We broke up,” Raven said as she put on an awkward smile, “and you're just a year older than me, don't call us a young couple.”
Daphne laughed, “Ah, sorry, sorry. So what happened? Why did you break up? Did he forget your anniversary or something?”
Daphne never seemed so noisy before, at least not where it came to personal life. But this was different, as if Raven suddenly found something that Daphne could talk on about for hours. And that one thing was the breakup of Raven and her boyfriend? But Raven couldn’t tell the real reason why they broke up. Not now and if possible not ever.
“Ah, nothing like that. We kinda just fell apart. So, um thanks for the tickets, but I can't take them,” she explained.

“Take them, take a friend with you,” Daphne insisted. Raven could take Bella with her, though she would have to find a babysitter, as leaving a two-year-old at home isn't really wise. That or hope that Bella's husband already returned from his work trip.
His work has lots of work trips, but they pay so well, that they managed to both buy a house and have a baby before Raven could even secure an apartment. And if it weren’t for Bella buying and insisting on renting this apartment to her, Raven might still be living with her parents.
Raven is a really good game developer, she was the one who came up with, and further help create a very popular dating simulation game named Heart Goes Doki, but after the company she worked for took all the credit, she decided to quit and her job hunt was unsuccessful until a year ago, when she got this one. With her first project being that game prototype, which she made so many of, all of them being rejected, until this one.
“Well, if you insist, then thank you,” Raven smiled and took the tickets. She's gonna find someone else to go with if Bella won't be able to make it.
“Well, I better get going now,” Raven said to break a few seconds of awkward silence. Then they said their goodbyes and each left to their part of the parking lot.
“Hey, Bella! Hope I'm not bothering you or anything,” Raven spoke through the phone after her friend picked up.
“You? Never. What's up?”
“I just got a couple of tickets for a theater show. My boss gave them to me, said I should watch it with my boyfriend,” Raven explained.
Bella gasped, “No way, did you tell her you two broke up.”
“Yes, I did.”
“How did she take it? Was she weird about it?”
“God no, I didn't tell her we were in a bearded relationship.”
Bella rolled her eyes, “So what, your ex boyfriend now has a boyfriend, and you're just gonna stay in the closet forever?”
Raven sighed, “Not forever, I just don't wanna- Look I'm just trying to get through my life with as little complications as possible. I mean sure, I'd be out if I already had a girlfriend. Maybe I should go back on dating apps?”
“Or you could try real life dating, maybe you should go to a bar or something.”
Raven unlocked her car and sat in, “And get hit on by fifty year old men? No thank you.”
“Come on, don't play dumb, Birdy. I obviously meant a gay bar.”
Bella was right, she should try out an LGBT bar, if nothing else, she could find a new friend who gets this side of hers. But not now, now her priority was making that game. And as it was a weekend, her real priority was hanging out with all her already existing friends.
