CHAPTER 37: THE OPERATION FLASH (1)

CHAPTER 37: THE OPERATION FLASH (1)

There was a hustle and bustle in front of the Intensive Care because Yoon Suk had so unexpectedly a serious „crisis.” Because of this, the machines were clanging, telling everyone that the patient was „in danger of death.” Around the young man, who was so well playing his role as though he’d been an actor for his entire life, the nurses were moving without stopping, fulfilling Doctor Kion’s orders, who had been called there on short notice.

„Faster,” the doctor shouted. „We can’t waste a minute. Otherwise, we can lose him.” And that „we can lose him” wasn’t at all an exaggeration because Mina took care to turn the young detective into a real ghost: dark rings were seen under his eyes that made him look horrible that even his mother wouldn’t have recognized him if she had seen him at that moment. His lips were also purple as though he’d been underwater for hours while his cheeks were so white as painted. And, if someone had compared Yoon Suk with a ghost, he would have won the first prize for sure. Not only had this turned Yoon Suk into a living dead person: his nails were almost dark because of so much squeezing, and not because he was in pain, but because he was so nervous and he couldn’t control himself aware that if he had failed to play that role, they would have died for sure.

Not only Yoon Suk was a good actor at that moment. A Rim was also playing her role very well while crying as though she was about to lose someone, making everybody feel pity for her. „Sin Hion!” A Rim suddenly yelled. „Brother! Sin Hion, be strong, do you hear me? Don’t give up! Sin Hion, please!” And, while yelling this, she looked as though she was about to lose her mind. Yet, although she seemed so focused on crying and playing her role, her eyes were rolling on the orbits like the eyes of a mouse that saw cheese in a trap. Thus, she saw the „intruder” spying on them through the barely open door of the Intensive Care. Seeing him, A Rim started to cry even louder, forcing the two nurses to take care of her instead of the patient.

Eventually, absolutely knackered, poor A Rim sat on the floor, allowing the nurse to ventilate her with the medical chart. And, even though both of them seemed „extremely busy,” they glanced at the door on the sly. Thus, they saw the man filming their madness, something that made A Rim frown eventually because she hated to be filmed. Yet, having no other choice than to allow this, she stood calm until he left.

„Huh, it was close,” A Rim breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the man leaving. „We can relax now,” she told the others, who panicked, seeing that the intruder had been spying on them for so long. Actually, they were more afraid that A Rim would have a heart attack than they were afraid of him. She, suddenly calm, gave a phone call to Yu, to whom she said, „Our play is over. It’s your turn, Inspector.”

„Got it!” Yu drily replied. Then, he hung up the phone. Something A Rim disliked because she suddenly hissed through her teeth:

„Miserable idiot! I phoned him to warn him about the trouble. Instead, he hung up the phone while I was still speaking.” After that, when she saw Yoon Suk standing already, she feistily said, „What if he comes back?”

„I’ll lay again,” Yoon Suk calmly said. „Anyway, I don’t think he will return.”

A Rim squinted at him. „Why are you so sure?”

„It’s something I would have done if I was him. Not the other, but, hearing you crying again, it’s damn torture. This makes me believe he’ll stay away from this place forever.” After that, at all bothered by A Rim’s sour face, who disliked his irony, Yoon Suk left the ward because he felt that it was time to calm down after all that madness.

***

Hidden behind his car and looking at the entrance, Yu suddenly started to whistle. He felt bored because minutes in a row had passed since A Rin told him that the intruder left, but he wasn’t seen leaving the hospital. „Did he leave through the back door?” Yu asked and frowned. „No, I don’t think so. Even if he ran through the back door, he had to pass by here. Eventually, it’s the only way to the main road. And…”

Suddenly, he lay on his stomach when he saw the intruder running out of the hospital. This made the Inspector pull back and hide behind the car again. He also hid because of the motorcycle that suddenly entered the hospital parking lot at full speed. Even so, while the one that left the hospital put the helmet on and climbed on the moto, Yu managed to take a few photos of them, although those photos didn’t give him too much information about the two guys.

Eventually, when the motorcyclist turned the motorcycle toward him and passed in front of him, Yu, still on all four, pulled back and back, trying not to be seen spying on them. Then, when the motorcycle was far from him and he couldn’t be discovered spying on them anymore, Yu ran toward the car that was parked not that far from where he was. Once in the car, he stepped on the gas pedal to the brim, following the moto at full speed and trying to catch up with them or at least not to lose sight of them.

To his great surprise, the streets were crowded despite the late hour. Because of this, Yu found it really hard to get closer to the motorcycle, which he saw stopped about ten cars in front of him. This didn’t deter the Inspector and he managed to make room through the other cars, remaining about four vehicles behind the two. He did that because he didn’t want to alert them. Also, Yu had no other choice because it suddenly turned red at the traffic light and the line of cars was forced to stop, stopping them too.

While waiting for the traffic light to be green again, Yu felt anxious. Something was bothering him, although he couldn’t understand why. Because of the same anxiety, the Inspector kept an eye on the two individuals, wondering, „What are they planning this time?” He asked himself this question because of the noise the moto made while the driver stepped the gas pedal repeatedly. Soon after this, the motorcycle crossed the lawn between the two lanes, which told Yu that the driver was impatient to escape from there and that’s why he decided to run by taking the reverse line.

The two motorcyclists didn’t leave alone but with a lot of patrols behind them. About ten patrols followed them when the police officers noticed the motorcycle crossing the lawn. Yet, it wasn’t anything easy to catch up with the motorcycle because the driver wasn’t stupid at all. He, the moment he had the chance, turned left and pressed the gas pedal to the brim, disappearing at the next crossroads. He didn’t even look back to see what they left behind because the patrols, which tried to slide between the other cars, caused a multiple-car accident, blocking the traffic for a very long time.

„Wonderful,” Yu murmured, furious. „It’s exactly what I needed: to get caught in traffic on Friday evening.” Yet, understanding that he wouldn’t escape from there soon, moreover, when he felt that the honks of the other cars and the other drivers swearing bothered him, the Inspector closed the window, turned the radio on, and comfortably lay on the chair. It was all he could do at that moment.

While listening to Captain Lee guiding the others and telling them more details about the operation, DooSan carefully looked around. Doing this, he saw the sour faces of the other detectives, who had been forced to do extra work instead of going home and spending the night next to their wives, or simply drinking something with their friends and relaxing. Instead of this, they all were forced to remember the time spent in the military when they had been forced to listen to the orders of their „superiors.”

Nevertheless, not this amazed DooSan, but the fact he didn’t see SolHi there. Because of this, DooSan frowned and mumbled, „Where the hell did she vanish? Especially when I need her.” Then, looking at his wristwatch, he saw that it was 4.30 already, and he didn’t sleep at all that night, not even a minute.

In fact, none of them slept well in the last few days. This happened not only because of the case they were investigating but also because of a strange anxiety felt around them. More than this, DooSan felt a strange pain in his chest, as though it was a hunch that warned him about something wrong that could happen with that case. On top of that, as though there weren’t enough problems they had with the case, DooSan started to dream fragments of a night spent with SolHi, in a motel room, making love, something he thought that it was impossible to have happened between them.

Although he had those dreams and a lot of questions in his head, DooSan had to deal with all this alone, especially with the memories. He didn’t have whom to ask if they were real or a product of his imagination. Especially, he couldn’t tell SolHi about this because „If she finds out that I’m dreaming about something like this, she will kill me in my sleep for sure.” DooSan told himself such words in the last few days, each time he thought about telling her about his feelings and memories. Then, to make everything more complicated than ever, there was the case they were working on, something he never worked at before, although he had been working as a Prosecutor for almost three years already. This meant long hours of intense work and no sleep. And, as it was DooSan’s kind, he loved to check every case up to the end. Because of this, he could spend hours and hours locked in his office and looking over and over again through the details of the case and the evidence. And, if the case was a very complicated one, DooSan couldn’t leave his office for days. He did this because he swore when he started to work for the Prosecution not to lose more than 1% of the cases he was assigned to investigate, although this meant endangering his mental and body health. Yet, something changed after he met SolHi again, especially after they started to live together. After that day, DooSan went home every night just to spend more time with her, although he also considered that this complicated his life more and he got to not think clearly anymore.

He awoke from his daydream when Detective Gi gave him a cup of coffee. Then, thanking him for turning him back to reality, DooSan focused on what Lee was telling to the other detectives, „In two days, things will turn complicated in this case, as it generally happens when we investigate an important case. Thus, gentlemen, we don’t have time to sleep, party, or relax. Especially, we can’t afford the luxury of not investigating any details of the case, no matter how insignificant it doesn’t seem to be. Why? Because, if this happens, our negligence can cost the life of any of us or the life of collateral victims. That’s why…”

„He is good,” whispered Gi. „At what he’s doing, I mean. I didn’t expect him to take this case seriously. At least, I didn’t expect he would be involved in it that much.”

„It’s because he hates to lose.”

„Do you know him?”

„Mmm. He’s a good friend of my father. Well, they had been good friends when my father was still alive.”

„SolHi told me you met him when he came here. Why do you say now that you have known him before?”

„Because it’s the truth, Detective. I met Captain Lee for the first time when I was only a child. Even so, when I talked to him about working together for this case, he told me that it would be better not to tell others about our friendship because he tried to avoid unnecessary gossip.”

„Yet, you told me. Why?”

„Because I trust you?!” DooSan winked. „Anyway, it’s just something for the moment. That’s why I hope it remains only between us.”

„If you say so,” murmured Gi in a playful voice. Then, seeing Lee watching them, he decided that it was time to listen to what the Captain was telling them.

„…to make sure we won’t have problems with this case, especially because we can’t secure the place before the operation, we’ll follow the plan as we have decided already. Thus, to cover everything, it was decided to split the group into two teams. The group ALPHA will be led by Prosecutor Han DooSan and will look for Kim Ha Na, who, according to the investigation, has been missing for a week already.”

„Something that hints to us that she might be dead already,” said Mo.

„That’s right, son! Even so, we won’t give up, at least not until we find her. Because of this, we’ll look for her even in the snake’s hole if necessary.”

„What about group 2?” Gi asked.

Lee smiled. „It’ll be under my command. DELTA team, I mean. We’ll check the area where the Parkour competition will take place and we’ll also transfer the „goods” to Hanil Hospital, where the patient who needs the transplant is. It has been decided so because, if we enter this game, we have to play it up to the end, no matter the consequences. At least… we’ll save someone’s life.”

„Yet, this doesn’t mean it’ll make us feel better,” said Detective So, making everybody look at her. The young Detective, at all bothered to be in the spotlight, continued her thought, „I mean… the other victim, whom we can’t save, but whose organs might be taken by force. Is it for real that we can’t do anything to impede that?”

„Unfortunately yes, Detective,” replied Lee. „That’s why we decided, with all the pain we might feel, to continue to investigate this case as it goes. And, if we make it, we can prevent new victims in the future. More than this, although we can try to find out who the victim is, nothing guarantees us that we can save her or him.”

„At least we can try,” insisted So. „We are talking about someone’s life, for God’s Sake.”

„We are talking about the life of each of us,” said Gi in a severe tone. „And… I think Captain Lee is right. What’s important now is to arrest the traffickers and for the organization that makes such movements fall apart.”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

„But, Detective Gi,” So insisted on her theory. Seeing her boss furiously looking at her because she interrupted Lee’s speech, she kept silent.

Lee, understanding that they all were right, looked at So and told her in a kind voice, „If we had had a chance, no matter how small it was, to save the second victim, we would have done this. Yet, in the twenty years since I have been working in this area, I have understood that many operations are meant to fail, in one way or another.”

„And this is one of those cases,” murmured Mo, thoughtful. „This is the case when we have to give up on someone just to save another victim.”

„Unfortunately, yes, son! We don’t have supernatural powers, eventually. If we had had such powers, this world would have been happier. And, who knows?! Maybe we would have lived in a world with no criminals and I would have sold ice cream instead of ruling the Organized Crime Department.” All the detectives laughed. „Now, returning to our story: DELTA will focus on taking the goods and arresting the two Couriers - Gu SilGi and Park Yu Ra. I want these two alive. Why? Because, through them, we can try to find the rest of the grouping. It’s the only way we can avoid new victims. Yet, remember one thing: I don’t need heroic deeds from any of you, and especially… I don’t want collateral victims, not among us. Was it clear?”

„Yes, sir!” The detectives and the few military that came with Lee said in a single voice.

Unlike the detectives, who showed their faces, the military wore masks. This was the main rule of the Organized Crime Department: not to reveal the identity of any of its members, they wore masks, especially the special agents. The only ones who showed their faces were the leaders or the intermediary between the group and the rest of the police.

When Lee finished the briefing room, DooSan asked Gi, „Do you know where SolHi is? It’s been a while since she is missing.”

Gi frowned. „If I’m not mistaken, she has left. She said something about buying food.”

„It might be because… none of us ate something else since the morning. Only with tea and a croissant, it’s not enough for such a tough day. I’ll go look for her.” Then, DooSan rushed toward the exit, something that made Gi attentive.

„Only with tea and a croissant? Since the morning? These two what… do they live together if they know what the other one eats?! Ia, Kan, come here!” Gi summoned Kan to approach when he saw that one appearing in the room.

„What?” Kan drily asked, yawning because of tiredness.

„Do you have a new pair of pigeons in the team?”

„Aaa? What the… aaa, you mean Detective Ian and Prosecutor Han. Honestly, I have no idea. So, just do your job, old wolf, instead of looking for love.” After that, still yawning, Kan turned his back to Gi.

„Boorish idiot! I tell him everything I know, but he refuses to tell me at least this. Yeah, right: his people are more important than me. Well, Kan, just wait: I’ll show you later who I am and I’ll tell you nothing about what I know.” After that, feisty, Gi returned to his desk, still puffing through his nostrils like a mad bull.

Stepping out of the car, SolHi sweetly yawned. She was tired and would have liked to sleep. Instead of this, she had to work. That’s why, aware that a long time without sleep was still waiting for her, SolHi twisted her body a little to chase the numbness away from her bones. After that, she took the shopping bags from the rear seat of the car. She didn’t buy too much because only a few supermarkets were still open at that hour. Even so, she was happy that she could buy a few sandwiches and little things to make sure she wouldn’t suffer because of hunger.

All this was weird for her because, before she started to work with Han DooSan, she could work all day long without feeling hungry. Lately, however, if she didn’t eat for a few hours, she felt weak and was easily getting angry. It was undoubtedly because of DooSan, who didn’t lose a chance to eat. He wasn’t eating alone, but he was also forcing her to swallow something, telling her all the time that he was doing this because he needed her to focus on work.

With such thoughts in her mind and yawning, SolHi headed toward the entrance. While climbing the stairs, she saw a group of four detectives approaching her. Seeing them and that they were those detectives with whom she never had a good relationship, SolHi cooked her nose. She did that because of someone she hated more than she hated Han DooSan: Detective Nam Yun Ho.

Unlike her, who wanted to turn back and avoid talking to them, Nam Yun Ho seemed happy to see her. At least he tried to seem so when he told her, „Ooo, Detective Ian, such a pleasant surprise to see you here.”

„So bad that not everybody feels the same,” SolHi hissed through her teeth. Then, she tried to pass by him. Something she couldn’t do eventually because of Yun Ho, who stepped in front of her, blocking her way. This made SolHi furiously tell him, „Get lost!” Yelling this, SolHi suddenly felt cold beads of sweat running down her back. She didn’t feel this because she was afraid of him, but because she knew that she was more than capable of pouncing on him and making him pay for every single bad thing he did to her in the past. Eventually, understanding that she wasn’t there for old resentments, SolHi told him in a calm voice this time, „I said to get lost, Nam Yun Ho! Didn’t you hear me? Or what, are you playing the deaf one now? The perfect pair of the fact you are stupid?” Her words enraged Yun Ho, whose eyes suddenly furiously sparkled.

Hearing such words from her, the man took two steps toward her. And, with his hands stuck into his pockets while staring at her, he told her in mockery, „Dumber than you are?”

To his great surprise, SolHi burst into laughter. „I can’t believe you get to compare yourself with me. Well, what could I expect from a dumb idiot like you?! Even so, show at least some dignity if you have a short mind.”

Nam Yun Ho didn’t lose his temper this time. He, grinning, told her, „Baby, don’t worry: I have dignity. Something I can’t say about you! Or yes?! I’m not sure. Yet, what I’m sure of, it’s that you have a good stomach if you got to work with the brother of the one whose brain you blew up. So, tell me: do you at least feel nausea? When you look in the mirror, I mean.”

„At all. Yet, I think I got to feel it right away when I saw you,” SolHi hissed through her teeth. „That’s why I suggest you keep your mouth shut because it’s not time to talk about the past, Nam Yun Ho. Now, get lost!”

„Something I won’t do because I think that’s the right place and moment. To… „play” a little, I mean. At least while the others are busy with planning the case.” After that, Nam Yun Ho gently touched her face and neck.

SolHi looked straight into his eyes as though she suddenly turned into a mad cat when she told him, „Hands off me!”

„Why? Isn’t this something you like?”

„Absolutely! Why? Because I hate when a gross beetle like you touches me.”

Nam Yun Ho grinned. „I must accept I forgot you had a sharp tongue, Detective Ian. Now more than ever and this is because you have started to spend your nights with Prosecutor Han DooSan. So, tell me: do you at least feel pleasure for paying with your body the debt you have in front of him for killing his brother?”

Releasing the shopping bags, SolHi suddenly grabbed him by the collar with the left hand, intending to punch him with the right one. She could control herself eventually when her fist almost touched Yun Ho’s nose. Then, looking with hatred at the other three detectives, she hinted at them to stay away from them. After that, looking at the idiot in front of her again, she asked him, „Did you see all this to say such gross things, idiot? Did you see me spending the night with Prosecutor Han to tell such things?”

„The whole country saw you, not only me,” he told her, outlining each word. „I say such things because of this. More than that, I don’t understand why you are playing the innocent angel with me when you give others for free.”

Such words hurt SolHi a lot, although she knew that Nam Yun Ho was an idiot. Even so, this reminded her of a tough period of her life, one she would have liked to forget. And, badly shaking, she told him eventually, „You are an idiot!”

„Maybe. At least… I’m not as self-righteous as you are. Even so, I can change my mind if you do me a favor… one of those you do the best.” Saying this, he winked. After that, he imitated a kiss and an indecent movement while giving her a business card. „You should decide only the hour and the date. I’ll take care of the rest. Of the reservation, I mean because I’ll have for free the… rest.” Words that made the other detectives burst into laughter.

SolHi weirdly grinned this time. „As though a stinky worm like you can have a woman like me. You have the right to go around the bush as much as you like, Nam Yun Ho. It doesn’t hurt me. Why? Because I don’t have time to waste with such trash like you.” For these words, Yun Ho slapped her.

Thus, with her face turned to the right because Nam Yun Ho slapped her left cheek, SolHi stood frozen for a few moments. She was badly shaking inside, not knowing what to do. Then, when he grabbed her by the hair with both hands, she grabbed him by the wrists, stared into his eyes when he forced her to look at him, and told her with hatred, „Cheap b…ch! How do you dare to call me trash? Did you miss being behind bars or what? Don’t you know who I am and what I can do? That’s why you keep provoking me? Is it because you want to revive everything? The time spent in jail, the insults, the blows? If you miss all this, I can help you to feel them again: worse than in the past.”

SolHi looked with contempt at him. „And? What kept you away from me by now? Your consciousness?”

„Of course not! I didn’t beat you up because you are a woman. Something you deserve, by the way.”

„Aaa, it was because of this… because I’m a woman,” SolHi whispered, laughing. „Well, Nam Yun Ho, it seems to me that you have forgotten the corporate party from two years ago. The one organized for your ex-partner. Yes, the same partner you hated the most because he’d been named chief of the National Security Agency, a place you wanted for yourself. Yet, although you forgot this, I didn’t. I still remember the offer you made me that day: to be together. What did you say then? Aaa, it was because we made a good team together. And, to make sure I’d accept, you made me a good offer. Should I remember what you offered?”

„Not necessary. Anyway, that offer wasn’t for a lady,” Yun Ho said, looking at her with contempt.

SolHi laughed instead. „It’s so easy pretending not to recognize things. So bad because this is something that doesn’t work for you. Do you know why I’m so sure of this? Because I still remember the kiss, the one you gave me and it didn’t feel as if you had kissed a prostitute. For me, if I had accepted to enter your bed that night, I would have had you at my feet today: shaking your tail like the stinky dog you are. Anyway, it’s not too late to try it. What do you say?”

To provoke him, SolHi put her lips to his lips. Their closeness made Nam Yun Ho shake inside, almost ready to accept that offer. Yet, seeing his colleagues’prying glances focused on him, he pushed SolHi away from him eventually. After that, he slapped her again, so hard that SolHi lost her balance. And, when she hit the stairs, she injured her palms and knees.

Gnashing her teeth because of the pain, SolHi didn’t stand up. Thus, she gave Nam Yun Ho the chance to pounce on her again. And, grabbing her by the hair, he forced her to look at him again, intending to slap her even harder this time. The one kicked eventually, from the side, was him. A kick that threw him away from SolHi, rolling on the stairs eventually.

The sudden attack confused and amazed Nam Yun Ho a lot because he had never expected that someone would protect SolHi. Yu Ho was right in being amazed because, before that, each time he attacked SolHi, nobody tried to protect her from his madness. The others were just asking him to leave her alone. However, this time, someone not only scolded him but hit him too. And, before he could react and look at the one who attacked him, DooSan pounced on him and started to punch him.

Not only DooSan pounced on Yun Ho but also SolHi on DooSan. She did that, trying to take him away from Nam Yun Ho because she knew that it could have gotten him into problems. Seeing that she was unable to separate them alone while the other detectives just stood and watched, she yelled at them, „Don’t stay and watch only! Help me to split them!”

Eventually, she’d been pushed away from them. This happened when Yun Ho kicked DooSan’s stomach and he lost his balance. Yet, this didn’t keep DooSan away from him for long. He, the moment the pain in his stomach weakened a little, pounced on the detective again as though that one was a red cloth and DooSan a mad bull.

DooSan pounced on his enemy when he saw that one trying to stand up. Yet, halfway to get to Yun Ho, he froze. He did that because of SolHi, who hugged him from behind and, through tears, told him, „Stop this, DooSan! It isn’t worth it! Please, stop!”

Her reaction confused DooSan. He had never expected to hear such words from her. Moreover, he never thought she would hug him like that, something he often dreamt about since they started living together.

Meanwhile, Nam Yun Ho, seeing that DooSan seemed vulnerable at that moment, tried to take advantage and hit him. He couldn’t get to him eventually because of his colleagues who stopped him. However, this didn’t impede him to yell, „I swear I’ll kill you both, idiots! What? For a cheap b…ch you got to attack normal people?”

„Keep your mouth shut!” DooSan demanded him. „And carefully listen to me, idiot: if you touch one of my people again, I swear I won’t only take care of you to be fired, but I’ll make sure you’ll spend good years behind bars!”

„I can’t believe what I hear! With my ears, by the way: Prosecutor Han DooSan defends his mistress in front of everybody. The one who killed your brother, idiot! Someone like her…”

„It’s none of your business who she is. So, as long as this doesn’t have anything to do with you… stay away from her or I swear I will crack your neck and your bones so badly that no doctor will be able to gather you in a single piece again. Did you hear me?”

„Are you threatening me right now, Prosecutor Han?”

„It’s not the prosecutor who threatens you, but the man Han DooSan, asshole! If the prosecutor Han DooSan had threatened you, you would have been behind bars already: for threatening others, insulting them, attacking them, and for violence against the women. So, shut your mouth and get lost until I turn these simple threats into reality! Take him away from here, now!” DooSan demanded the other detectives.

Saying this, DooSan was shaking like hell. He was more than ready to approach Nam Yun Ho again and teach him how a woman should be treated. He would have definitely done that if SolHi hadn’t been there. Yet, she was there, right in front of him, pushing him back just to make sure he wouldn’t get at his rival. This didn’t impede him from looking at Nam Yun Ho with hatred, who was pushed from behind by his friends and was asking him to keep his mouth shut. Yet, Nam Yun Ho wasn’t ready to keep silent but kept yelling, „This won’t remain unpunished, Prosecutor Han! I won’t ever swallow such a humiliation. I’ll make you all pay for this. I swear you’ll bite your hands next time you see me and you’ll stay in front of me on your knees, idiots! I swear!”

„As though you are God to kneel in front of you,” DooSan yelled behind Yun Ho. Eventually, alone with SolHi, and when he saw the red stain on her left cheek, he touched it, asking, „Are you okay?”

She pulled back. „I’m fine!”

„No, you aren’t! Just look at how you look!” He was pissed off, seeing her palms and knees bleeding. „Follow me! Saying nothing, SolHi, or I swear you’ll pay instead of that idiot!” After that, grabbing her hand, by disregarding her grimaces, he pulled her behind him toward the small park where they had talked earlier that night after the message she received from Dja Iun.

To his great surprise, SolHi said nothing. She didn’t even try to stay against his idea of following him. SolHi did that, aware of how the man could be when he was mad and that it wasn’t working for her to have him as her enemy at that moment. She could only obey his order, although she felt strange. Especially, it was something that was pressing over her chest, something she had never felt before, and she felt this because nobody had ever protected her before. At least nobody did that openly as DooSan did that night.

Before that, each time Nam Yun Ho attacked her, Yoon Suk, Detective Gi, or Kan only verbally protected her. And, even if they had the chance, none of them started a fight with Detective Nam. Not the same as what DooSan did: he not only insulted Yun Ho but also punched him just to protect her, at all afraid of what others would say. That’s why obeying and following him like any good child was something insignificant for her, something she could easily do to pay back for his help.
