Chapter 446

Jonathan breathed deeply, flashed Arkanon a quick smile, and then delved into the world of his class selection ceremony. Reality warped around him, darkness filling his vision. He appeared in the middle of a vast void, with five figures floating in the air before him. As usual, they were familiar sights.

There was one class related to his focus on physical strength, a bulging behemoth of a man clad in a loincloth, muscles providing the only armor that he needed. There was a refined pugilist, fists wrapped in cloth, in a stance that seemed to indicate a desire to take on the world itself. Then there were his three elementally related classes. The pure mage version of his Void path, the hybrid between his physical and magical paths, and the raw avatar of chaos that would turn his body into the Void itself.

He moved towards the mage option first, wanting to see if there was anything worth picking about it. All things considered, he already had a huge amount of physical strength, far more than his magical stats. He could do with a bit more mana. The statue stood suspended in nothingness, robes of tyrian purple draped across its form. Two burning eyes peered out from beneath a hood, seeming to pierce the darkness around them. One hand stretched forwards, a nexus of pure nothingness clutched within it, surrounded by a corona of purple.

Apprentice Voidcaster

Tier 4 Legendary Class

Your elemental connection has become akin to a flowing river of pure consumption, connecting you to the space between stars, the realm of nothingness itself. Do your chosen element proud, and unleash its might upon your foes, erasing entire cities with a simple expression of will.

+25 to Intelligence, +25 to Wisdom, +15 additional free points.

The class was far more potent than before, but of course, that was to be expected. What Jonathan was searching for more than anything was a special ability or boon that he could not find anywhere else. The only problem with this was that the Elemental Juggernaut class line already provided similar bonuses to this, as he could either choose a physical or magical option.

He moved on, recoiling slightly as he set his eyes upon what looked like a torch of purple fire. A man stood within it, his body shuddering in agony, and in disgusting, visceral pleasure. The Void oozed from every pore, and strange markings covered his flesh, strange stars and designs intertwined into a miniature cosmos of darkness.

Tier 4 Legendary Class

You are the one who wields the maw of the infinite abyss, if only in the very infancy of your power. That star of the end calls to you, the only light upon the infinite horizon of the Void. Leaving only a tiny fragment of your mind behind, let the truth of existence scour your body clean of everything that stands in your way.

+75 free points per level.

As before, the class provided more points than others at its level, but with such immense drawbacks that only a madman would ever choose it. Though, the last line did contain a slight bit of hope. Perhaps one day, the class line would be worthwhile. For now, though, it was a deathtrap.

Finally, the familiar shape of his, so far, only chosen class appeared. A man clad in armor, a clenched gauntlet bared at the world on one hand, and a wand in the other. A tiny sun of elemental fire blossomed above the tip of the wand, and purple lightning played across his form.

Student Elemental Juggernaut

Tier 4 Legendary Class

In continuing to tread a path without boundaries, a class that encompasses both aspects of the world of battle becomes open to you. While you will never match a true elite in the physical or magical realism in their crafts, you will defeat them nevertheless in the end.

+10 to all stats, +5 additional points.

The class didn’t provide any additional free points, but that was fine with him. As it provided boosts to everything, there was no need for them.

Jonathan shook his head, but he already knew what he would be selecting, and probably would be for the rest of his time in the domain of Legendary classes. Whenever he was able to upgrade to Mythical ones, perhaps there would be something better, but for now, this simply was the best option. He chose the class, and the darkness around him vanished, disgorging him back into the real world.

“How did it go?” Arkanon asked as soon as Jonathan opened his eyes.

“Well enough,” Jonathan replied, but a slight frown was visible on his face. “It is a pity that you can only get Legendary classes for the first few Tiers. I’m pretty sure I qualify for more than that, given that I’ve gotten one at every upgrade.”

Arkanon nodded. “I can’t say the same, though I do have a Legendary class now. What sort of achievements did you need to acquire a Legendary class at the very beginning?” Then he shook his head. “Right. You killed a circle lord.”

“That was even before that,” Jonathan corrected. “Though, I’m not exactly sure. I was quite strong for my level, but my element seems to count for a lot more than it should.”

“Than it should? You have one of the most powerful elements I’ve ever seen. I still don’t know what it even is. It must be some rare combination of two others.”

Jonathan smirked. “It’s the element of the Void. I suppose there’s no harm in telling you, given that I’m sure the circle lords knew. It’s not like it makes much of a difference.”

Arkanon raised an eyebrow. “The Void? I’ve never heard of that. Is that how you are able to simply annihilate anything you direct it towards? I thought it was some mixture of Fire and Death, an all consuming flame that desired the ultimate cessation of existence.”

“Damn, you do make a good point there. That is a great cover if I ever need to explain it away.” Jonathan smiled. “Thanks for that. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your element? Something to do with Fire, right?”

“All Uthraki gain a bonus to the manipulation of that element, or anything with it as a component. As a result, we invariably select Fire, or some subsidiary element like Lava or Heat.”

“I wish I had something like that,” Jonathan replied. “It would certainly make the cultivation of my element easier.”

There was a knock at the door, and Jonathan turned. “Yes?”

“My lord,” one of the soldiers said, Hansel if Jonathan had the voice remembered correctly. “I think you’ll want to see this.”
