His stats were starting to look up, moving towards the level that he wanted. All of his stats were over the midpoint of the first thousand, and were approaching the second threshold. Now that he knew the power that such a thing granted, he would not let his fear dissuade him again. He needed the strength to defeat Granath. The only way to beat that powerful of a mage was to do so with overwhelming physical force. All of his magical skills would be useless against the hegemon of elemental power, at least as they were now, and he would need to cultivate his physical body as well. However, internal mana use would still be valuable.
He decided to save the remainder of his free points until he had enough to cross his threshold. A little bump in Dexterity would hardly be useful now, and he only had a few more levels to go before he could cross the threshold. At that point, his speed would be hundreds of times greater than a normal human, which was an astounding amount. It would allow him to cross the sound barrier many times over at his top speed. However, that was all for naught if he simply died to Granath. A moment later, a quest notification popped up.
You have completed a quest!
Wolf among the Lambs: A
You have been rewarded with one ton of Tier 2 Iron, three natural treasures of your choice, and pick of one item from the city treasury. Speak with the Guildmaster for your reward.
Jonathan slowly got to his feet, groaning as he did so. However, the thought of the rewards from the quest allowed him to keep going. As he rose, Edgar rose with him. They exited the city hall, and headed out into the streets, making their way back to the guild headquarters. As they entered, the two men walked towards the center of the guild hall, where a large group of guild members were waiting. All of them were clustered around the Guildmaster, who was giving some sort of speech. It wrapped up as the two men approached however, just in time for the man to spot them.
“Ah, my erstwhile allies. Here for your reward?” He asked. Jonathan nodded. “Good, come with me then. Such amounts of treasure cannot be easily transported. Not because of their weight, but because of their size.”
The man headed towards a door at the back of the room, and opened it, sliding his hand across a panel to do so. The door opened with a slight creak, revealing a long staircase leading down. They followed the Guildmaster into the hole, and eventually reached the bottom, coming out in front of a large cavern filled with treasure. It was organized by its type, and their first stop was a massive ore depository.

There was a large block of iron waiting there, next to a smaller block of some mineral, presumably for Edgar. It was smaller than he would have expected, but then again, metal was quite dense. However, he could see where the Guildmaster had been coming from when he had mentioned how unwieldy it would be to carry.
With a smile, Jonathan put it in his storage device, along with Edgar’s block of crystal, thankful for the small size. The Uthraki raised an eyebrow at this, but did not say anything, instead leading them over to the area where the natural treasures were kept. There were a few dozen, of all shapes and sizes, ranging from fruits, which seemed to be a common form of such objects, to what looked like body parts.
“Take your pick. Only three each though,” the Guildmaster said.
Jonathan and Edgar nodded, heading over towards the racks. He had learned that Edgar did not actually have a scanning skill, instead using a magical item. It was a small ring, one that he had been allowed to keep by Granath during his captivity, for some reason. It allowed him to scan things at his Tier, and was powered by his mana. As a result, he was able to select his own treasures, without needing Jonathan to scan them for him.
Jonathan instead started to peruse them. He ruled out all of the ones that were keyed to elements other than his own. That cut out almost half of them. What was left were a motley crew of physical enhancements, seeing as there were no fruits keyed to the element of the Void. Some of them increased durability, whereas others increased strength. When he channeled his Truesight however, he could tell that not all of them were created equal. Eventually, he narrowed the selection down to five treasures. The first one was a small, gnarled piece of wood that looked like a curled arm.
Strength of Wood
Tier 2 Natural Treasure
This piece of Tier 2 wood, the last remnants of a mighty Titanoak tree, enhances the physical strength of those who consume it, creating a secondary heart that beats with the power of unfettered growth. The effects grow with Tier, drawing from the user’s own power to further its own.
Jonathan closed the notification, and kept going. The other four treasures were just as promising as this one, but they were aspected in different ways. No matter what, he would be coming out of this with a substantial boost to his power.
