Chapter 218

As he worked his way through the weaker ones, the Uthraki dealt with the remaining two Tier 2 leaders. The red skinned behemoths were one of the greatest assets in this fight. They were handily defeating their enemies, but the battle was being prolonged by the assistance of the other Tier 2s. While Jonathan had once felt awe for the Tier 2s of this world, now all he felt was pity. None of them had gone to the lengths that he had for power, none of them had truly earned their levels. He had progressed to this height of power through sheer grit and determination. These fools had been coddled from the beginning, protected by the aegis that was Granath’s name. Well, no longer. They were not invincible. Jonathan only had to prove that.

Still, there were a lot of them, and they were not pushovers by any means, at least in a group. The mages constantly harassed him with their spells, dealing damage even through his armor. His skin was covered in a patchwork of burns and frostbite, mottled with massive bruises. His health had dropped by over two thousand points at this point, but it hardly mattered. He had enough to spare.

As he bulled his way deeper and deeper into the enemy lines, he found himself encountering stiffer resistance. Just the sheer weight of the enemy fighters was enough to inhibit him, especially with their high levels. Then again, all that meant was that they were fit for little more than being meat shields. That made Jonathan the butcher. His fists were his cleavers, and the ground was his cutting board.

With a grin, he sped up, drawing upon his Divinity to enhance his blows. Red light flared as his Rune of Hatred atomized enemy bodies. With the amount of energy that he could put into his runes, they were an effective fighting technique. In addition, his most potent ability, at least in this world, was his mana siphoning array. Without it, he would have been a third weaker than he currently was. With that sort of demerit, he surely would have died to the onslaught by now. Well, maybe not died. He was too strong for that. He certainly would have taken more than a few minor injuries by now though.

The fighting rose to a fever pitch as mages began to layer enhancements upon their melee companions. The movements of the Tier 2s sped up, and their strikes became faster. Although Jonathan was overwhelmingly strong, he was not invincible. At this rate, his stamina would run out. Well, he had always been told to face his fears rather than run away.

With a grunt, he sent his stamina into his fists, before punching forwards with all of his might. His fist tore through the air, his Void energy empowering the strike. A blast of power shot forwards, tearing through the bodies of the soldiers in front of him. It left a long, thin crater in the ground.

Jonathan raced along it, heading into the center of the fray. With a leap, he propelled himself into the air, and then came down like a thunderbolt, hammering his fist into the ground. The earth exploded upwards, and he grinned as soldiers were sent flying by the strike. Those two moves had taken out dozens of enemy fighters, but had depleted his reserves somewhat. He still had many more fighters waiting in front of him. However, once the Uthraki finished off with their battles, they could assist him. Jonathan had to hold the line in the meantime.

As he fought, Hushar sparred with the hulking brute of a man in the loincloth, sending the man stumbling with every strike. Although a small group of mages were constantly enhancing the brute with their spells, it was of no consequence. Hushar was absolutely dominating the other fighter, and the only thing stopping him from winning more quickly was the durability of his opponent, and the efforts of the mages. In any case, he was in no danger of losing.

Meanwhile, the female mage was being beaten into the ground by the Uthraki siblings. Although she was equipped with a host of spells, none of them were strong enough to defeat her opponents. Whips of light and shadow raked across their skin, but none of the attacks were potent enough to deal fatal damage. She was surrounded by a shield, but it was slowly being ground away by the attacks of the Uthraki. Her face was contorted in a rage filled snarl, and she knew that her life would be coming to an end soon enough.

A few minutes later, it was all over. The Uthraki hybrid brute fell to the ground, his head falling in a different direction. The mage was turned into a pile of bloody chunks as her shield ran out of mana. The Uthraki fighters raced to Jonathan’s side, helping him deal with the tide of Tier 2s. With their aid, he slowly pushed his way into the depths of the army, reaching the mages a few minutes later.

As he butchered his way through their ranks, he grinned. There was nothing better than defending what you believed in. Essence rolled into him in tides, but it was so much lower than what he was used to. He did not gain a single level for his efforts, despite the massive numbers of Tier 2s that he was defeating. As he fought, he slowly realized that this was nothing more than a distraction.

Screams rang out from the city behind him, signaling that the enemy had breached the walls. Upon seeing this, the enemy fighters became emboldened, throwing themselves at him to prevent Jonathan from rushing to the aid of his allies. As he was dogpiled by the fighters, golden light exploded outwards, revealing Jonathan standing in the middle of a field of crushed bodies. Pure rage coursed through his veins along with Divinity as he glared at those who dared to despoil his people.
