Chapter 274

Jonathan reached its shoulder a few seconds later, and worked his way towards the head. All the while, the monster lumbered about, trying to dislodge him. Eventually, Jonathan reached its head. However, the monster had some tricks up its sleeve. As soon as he touched the head, a red glow emanated from the scales, his only warning of an impending attack. A stream of molten rock erupted from the scale, almost knocking him off. The monster's obsidian colored eyes turned towards him, bathing him in their baleful gaze. A strange feeling of weakness came over him as he gazed into the monster’s eyes, and it took all of his willpower to shake himself loose.

Although this boss did not seem to be sapient, it had a plethora of special abilities, likely from its draconic heritage. The brief moment that Jonathan had been stunned for was enough time for the Drakon to buck him off its head with a mighty jerk of its neck. He flew through the air, crossing his hands in front of himself as he saw a massive claw heading towards him. The Drakon swiped out at him faster than the speed of sound, and because he was midair, he was unable to dodge. The breath was driven out of him by the hit, and five thousand health points vanished in an instant. He was immensely thankful for his recent threshold crossing, or else that would have taken more than a third of his entire pool.

Bones snapped as he fell, but they reformed quickly enough, bolstered by his Constitution. Meanwhile, the creature changed its target to Edgar, preparing a massive wave of fiery breath. It reared back and loosed a torrent of dark fire towards Jonathan’s ally, sending a scorching heat across the land. Edgar pumped as much power as he could into his shield, and it barely held. Jonathan could see the mage’s skin reddening from the heat, and he knew that the man could not take much more.

Jonathan sent his Divinity surging through his body as he fell, and as soon as he touched the ground, he slammed his stamina into his legs, shooting up towards the dragon like a comet wreathed in flames of gold. He cocked his fist and summoned a dense orb of Void energy to the appendage, capping it with the absolute nothingness of his Hungering Decay skill. Over a thousand points of Strength and Dexterity drove his fist forward into the dragon’s chin. The monster imperiously ignored the strike as it came in, sure in its own power. However, that would prove to be a mistake.

Jonathan’s fist crashed into the monster’s head, straight into the weak spot beneath its chin. There was a gap in the scales there, necessary to allow the monster to open its mouth. His fist sank into the flesh, and his Void energy exploded, weakening it. His full strength was sent like a shockwave through the monster’s flesh, rocking it backwards. He was nowhere near strong enough to actually knock the monster off its feet, but he did stagger it.

A gout of black blood covered him as his attack landed, burning his skin slightly. The monster was dazed for a moment, and Jonathan used that time to strike again, moving faster than gravity could claim him. His fist sent another charge of devastating Void energy into the Drakon, but it did not achieve much, seeing as the flesh was already gone. Instead, the monster glared down at him with pure rage in its eyes. The air began to heat up, and Jonathan hurriedly threw himself away. An explosion of fire erupted from the monster’s mouth, blasting him away and scorching his flesh through his armor. The stone far below melted as the superheated shockwave hit it, turning into a glassy smooth outcropping of rock. Jonathan scanned the monster again, pushing past the pain.

Corrupted Juvenile Drakon(Boss)

Level 199

Health: 35134/50175

Status: Injured, Enraged

The monster’s health had dropped significantly, which indicated that a good portion of it was contained within its scales, which Jonathan had bypassed. However, he wasn’t exactly in prime condition either. The only thing keeping him going was his monstrous stats and his Smite ability.

Edgar had taken advantage of the reprieve to fly backwards, away from the blistering heat. He was in the process of gathering up a massive amount of elemental energy, seeking revenge for the injuries that he had taken.

Jonathan landed like a meteor, cracking the stone beneath him, which was already weakened by the rapid heating and cooling. He flexed his legs and leaped to the side as the Drakon brought its foot down where he had been standing. Jonathan panted heavily as he stared at his enemy, finding that this battle was even harder than he had expected. Jonathan was no stranger to difficulty, but seeing as most of his recent battles, not counting the last few floors of the dungeon, had been walkovers, this was quite disconcerting. Even worse, that hit on the chin had simply been a lucky shot, nothing more. The Drakon would guard that spot far more jealousy from now on.

As the monster pulverized the earth in a frenzy of rage, Jonathan spotted an opportunity. The crumbling mountain behind the monster was vastly diminished from before, but it was still taller than the Drakon was. A few massive boulders sat at the top, and seeing as they were Tier 2 rocks, they would do more damage than normal. Jonathan raced past the Drakon, and up the mountainside. The monster was too dull to understand what he was doing, and instead of taking off, it remained on the ground. True dragons were creatures of ego and rage, and this creature was no different. Having to fly to take care of what it saw as an ant would be unacceptable behavior.
