Jonathan sat in silence in the darkness of his cave, preparing himself to choose his new class. He had arrived in the city some time ago, with the pressure of his upcoming class selection pressing on his mind. He had tried to resist it for long enough to have an informed discussion with Edgar about what he should pick, but when he tried, the pain in his head had grown too much for him to bear.
As a result, he was about to enter his selection process in a matter of minutes. He only waited because he wanted to think about what he wanted. He would likely gain a selection of choices based on his exploits, which meant that there would be a preponderance of martial classes, but possibly a few magical ones as well. He knew that the classes would be powerful though, given how strong the first one had been.
Tier 2 had been both as good as, and simultaneously not up to his expectations. He had gained a bucketload of stats, as well as a few useful bonuses, but he had not gained any upgrade to anything else, like his race. For some reason, he had been expecting to have gained more points per level, but it was obvious now that would be a result of his new class.
Unable to find any more excuses to dally, Jonathan closed his eyes and entered the class selection ceremony. He was whisked through time and space, appearing in the same onyx citadel that he had appeared in during his first minutes in this universe. However, it was grander than before, with a greater scale and more ornate buildings. It was not that overbearing, but definitely noticeable.
A circle of five statues, more than he had been able to pick from before, stood in front of him, all of them in various poses. Three of them were clearly martial classes, given the way that they stood, as well as the fact that they were armed, but the other two were magical classes, with one of them seeming to be a mix of both.
Without any further ado, he walked over to the nearest statue, one that showed a brawny man with a bare chest, roaring in rage at the world. Jonathan quickly opened its description. However, a different notification appeared first.
Your classes will no longer be preceded by the Outsider tag, as you have shown yourself to be worthy of greater things. From now on, your classes will be drawn from the higher echelons of potential, catalyzed by your growth. Be sure that you pick wisely. From Tier 2 onwards, classes will not simply be cataloged by rank, but will have differing tiers of power within them. From Tier 2 to Tier 10, the available grades of classes are from Common to Legendary.
It seemed from this message that Jonathan would no longer be influenced by his status as an Outsider. That had simply been from the fact that he had traveled to this world through the Void, but now he was effectively a citizen of it. In addition, that meant that his achievements were impressive enough to merit classes that were stronger than the norm. With a bit more excitement than he had been feeling before, Jonathan read over the class description.
Brute:Tier 2 Rare Class
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
You are a follower of the path of violence, a man who enjoys cracking skulls and crushing bones with your physical prowess alone. Brutes are well known across the universe for being almost impossible to keep down, and impossible to stop once they truly get going. However, they suffer from a total lack of ability to gain any mental stats. Any points that are placed into Intelligence or Wisdom will simply be funneled into one of your other stats. In addition, all magical skills will be reshaped into ones that only target your own body.
+6 to Strength, +6 to Resilience per level,+ 4 additional free points.
It was actually better than his original class, but it only by a little bit, which showed the tier of power that dictated classes to the fullest. In addition, he did not like the idea of being forced to only follow the path of strength. His magic was an integral part of his fighting style. As well as this, he was wary about something that would reshape his entire fighting style.
With a shake of his head, he left the status screen behind. That class was useless to him. Next up was someone more in line with the path that he currently followed, a man clad in plate armor, with twin gauntlets shining on his fists. The armor looked ancient, and more powerful than any suit of armor that Jonathan had seen before. It almost looked like the man had empowered the armor with his own life force, and it glowed with a faint red sheen.
Novice Juggernaut:Tier 2 Epic Class
Wherever you go, your enemies are reduced to blood and bone, with which to paint the story of your exploits. Juggernauts are elites among the armies of the universe, and the potential for growth in this class is high. As a class with a progression path, once one picks it, they will only be able to pick variants of this class in the future, but those variants will match your own skills and achievements.
+6 to Strength, +6 to Resilience, +3 to Constitution per level,+ 3 additional free points.
This class was a lot better, and it seemed to have greater potential than the other one that he had been offered. In addition, he was beginning to start to see the demarcations between the classes. This one, as an Epic class, gave him an additional two points as opposed to a Rare one. If that held true, then a Legendary class would give him 20 points per level, unless it was even more powerful than he was expecting, as well as possibly having other benefits as well.
It was nothing like the huge difference in power between Outsider and his other class options, but it was a strong foundation for the future in any case. He withheld judgment on Novice Juggernaut for now, moving onto the final martial class. This one was another bare chested man, but he was not bulky like the Brute statue had been. He was standing in a martial arts stance, one that seemed almost perfect to Jonathan’s eyes. Intrigued, he opened the description.
Novice Fistdancer:Tier 2 Epic Class
Fistdancers are some of the most powerful unarmed fighters in the universe. They use either their bare fists or the barest of protections to fight. You have stepped on this path with your creation of your own martial style, while still only in Tier 1. As a pathway skill related class, its development and future class upgrade options will be shaped by your progression in that skill.
+6 to Strength, +6 to Dexterity, +3 to Resilience per level,+ 3 additional free points.
It gave the same amount of points as the other Epic class, but in a different way. This one was focused on speed and power rather than durability. It was also an interesting class, but Jonathan could sense that better things were waiting for him with the last two statues. His intuition told him that he would not be disappointed about what he would find there.
