Chapter 404

An animalistic howl came from Hushar as he seized upon the sudden weakness of his foes, and he dashed forwards, the air erupting around him as he used his Domain as a cannon, propelling him to immense speeds. His sword was more like a club at such velocity, not just hacking through his enemies, but blasting them into bloody chunks. A few hundred fell to his charge, and he raised his blood baptized blade at the end, bringing it down. A titanic sword of obsidian formed, easily a hundred feet long and a dozen wide.

When it fell, a wave of pressure exploded outwards, complete with scything blades of energy. Every soldier it touched was reduced to pieces of bloody meat, flopping to the ground in the languid wind. Behind them, the rest of their allies attacked, their attacks doing far less individually, but just as much when you put them all together. Kendal led the charge, molten beads of fire hovering around him like a solar system of stars. Every few seconds, one of them would race off, impacting an enemy soldier before detonating in a conflagration that would take both the target and frequently those around them to the grave in a massive explosion.

Edgar spared a glance towards Jonathan, who was bent over, shaking as lightning poured into his body from the fallen form of the lightning mage. Then he rose, clenching his fists against the pain, and set his eyes upon the enemy. His fists began to blaze with potency, and stamina rushed down his legs. With a sudden boom, the air around him split, and he appeared to teleport to the front lines.

His fists descended with the force of missiles, and blades of Void energy descended with them. Where they touched down, waves of energy cleaved through all those nearby, sending a rippling pattern of death across the battlefield. A faint glow surrounded him, and Edgar found himself smiling uncontrollably. This was the man who had led him to victory time and time again. This was the man who had killed Granath. This was the man who would be the Hellbreaker.

Between the three titans of potency, the enemy army vanished, ground into nothingness by the combined force of three high Tier 3s. They were fed into the meatgrinder of war, and came out the other side as empty shells of flesh, devoid of all life. It was what they deserved, given their choice of leader. To their credit, none of them fled, but they were most likely constrained by litanies of oaths to Slothari, arbitrated by the System. More likely, there was nothing for them if they fled from battle while in a world owned by their circle lord.

It was not a unilateral victory, but considering that only a few hundred of Jonathan’s allies died, while facing off against a force easily ten times larger, said a lot about their strength.

As the survivors gathered, Jonathan finally let loose on his elemental energy, letting his body sink back to his normal state. A sudden wave of fatigue washed over him, and he let out a groan as the pain of the battle fully hit him, unconstrained by adrenaline.

“That went well,” Edgar said as he approached, flying through the smog choked air.

“It could have gone better. That mage was tricky to deal with.”

“Yes, but you won, didn’t you? You weren’t in any real danger,” Edgar replied, descending to the ground.

“If I can still be injured by one of Slothari’s servants, then fighting her will not be an easy task.”

“We have time to gain power. It will only get better from here.”

“I suppose so.”

Jonathan cast a glance over at Hushar, who was still in the midst of the battlefield, seemingly searching for more enemies to kill. As there were none, he appeared somewhat insane. Jonathan wasn’t sure why the man was in such a state, and had been for so long, but he supposed it was something to do with his race. Uthraki were a generally war loving people, and although they fought amongst each other a lot, they had strong ties of family and loyalty.

Jonathan debated whether or not to go after the man, but he decided to leave Hushar to do whatever he needed to feel better about himself.

He waited for a few minutes to allow those fighting alongside him to allocate the stat points from the plethora of levels that they must have earned from the battle against a far numerically superior foe. He had not been able to eke out a level himself, even with his defeat of the powerful lightning mage and thousands of her servants, but he was close enough. At this point his level rivaled that of most of the powerhouses of the realm, and only his relentless pursuit of opportunities allowed him to even level at the rate he was. As for his other powers, such as his Pathway skills, such things came from his fights against immense odds. His was not a normal path of progression.

He opened his stat sheet, wanting to see how much his most recent stat dumping session had improved his power.
