Chapter 390

As he stood on the top of a large hill, surrounded by Uthraki, he gazed down upon the final resistance of the mimics in this region of Tartarus. The monsters were far from defeated, but he had culled their number significantly. He had found out why Arkanon was unable to achieve the same thing recently. His portal was limited in range by the power of those using it, as it was an artifact, not a skill. If he departed to the front lines too often, he would strain the portal to the breaking point, leaving him without a way to return to defend his capital if the need arose.

It all seemed a bit convenient to Jonathan, naturally placing him in a position to do Arkanon’s dirty work, but he hardly cared. It was a good source of levels, and it would ensure the support of the realm’s lord in the upcoming war with Slothari. In addition, Hushar had finally reached Expert Rank with his weapon, and unlocked his domain. Jonathan was now on par with almost everyone in Mire at this point, and in Tartarus as well. In many ways, this journey was easier than it had been in the Ash Heaps, given his higher starting point of power. He had entered this realm near the midpoint of Tier 3 in power. That advantage would only compound as he progressed.

His Void energy swirled around him like a ephemeral cloak of consumption, and his Domain thundered within his heart, ready to be unleashed at any moment. He had grown greatly during his time in Tartarus, and he found himself wondering how Edgar fared on his own mission.

In Mire

The Waste Warrens were a large, patchwork collection of territories rarely monitored by the powers of Mire. They were considered to be more of a frontier than anything else, the last safe haven before the chaotic madness of the Heaps. Because of this, Edgar had found it easy to conquer a good portion of the region with the aid of his newfound allies. It turned out that most of the region was against Slothari, and was simply waiting for something to galvanize them into action.

Edgar, now over level 270 and with the power of someone many levels greater, was one of the strongest men in the entire realm at this point. He had finally fused his various energy skills, creating Energy Manipulation, his first Advanced Skill. Then he had proceeded to raise that to Expert Rank, granting him access to a domain. It was different from a Weapon Domain in that it allowed him to empower his constructs of energy, rather than use it as a weapon in its own right. In any case, it was highly potent, and he had wiped entire forts off the face of Mire with its aid.

His army had grown exponentially the further he roamed, and now thousands of Tier 3s marched under his banner. It might have seemed like a small force, but it was one to be reckoned with. He was not the only one to have grown from his efforts, and the majority of the army now stood around or above mid Tier 3. He was slowly making a name for himself out in the wastelands, and word of this had likely reached Slothari by now.

There were always uprisings and wars out in the frontier regions of Mire. In fact, they were encouraged. After all, spending time fighting one another meant less time to unite and fight the true source of woes in this realm.

Edgar was now in position to march upon the capital, but he was still waiting for Jonathan and Hushar to return from their sojourn to Tartarus. He was confident that they had survived, but had no idea whether they were safe or not. They might have been captured by the lord of the realm, or were in any other manner of compromising situation. This time though, Edgar would still fight, even without Jonathan’s support. He had no confidence in even injuring Slothari, but he knew that he could one day reach a level necessary to march upon the Oozing Bastion with a small chance of success.

His Legendary Class granted him bonuses beyond the norm, and he knew that he was leagues stronger than most of the people in this realm, even ones higher level than him. He was confident that he could have defeated Theodore, had he been forced to fight the man once more.

Edgar sat upon a small throne, gazing out over his domain. He had repurposed one of the forts that he had captured into a sort of arcane tower, where he could refine his elemental energy. In addition, he had installed an energy enhancing array that boosted his sensory skills to the max, allowing him to see across vast tracts of land with his mastery over the element of Air. That way, he could maintain a grip over his lands without having to patrol them himself.

Kendal had rapidly shown himself to be a trustworthy ally, and the fire mage now served as his second in command, delegating his orders to the others. Out of the army, Kendal was one of the more entrenched believers in the cause. Many simply saw this as an opportunity for profit, or for one final blaze of glory before their death.

Edgar had collected all sorts of characters in his rampage across the Waste Warrens, but eventually, all good things had to come to an end. Slothari had grown curious of the major upheaval in one of her peripheral regions, and he had been informed of the approach of a small army, handpicked by the circle lord. At its head was one of her lieutenants, a Master Ranked archer by the name of Georgios. He was famed for his ability with the bow, and it would come down to Edgar to deal with him.
