Chapter 19.3 & 20.1 - Ouch

Zacque posed with Sorachan’s heart in the air for two or three seconds before he realized something was horribly wrong.

He noticed his comrades were looking in his direction completely terrified.

First Zacque thought, they were terrified by the gruesome move he pulled off but when their expressions persisted Zacque knew something was terribly wrong.

As he slowly turned around he realized that Sorachan was still standing. Normally when such a move is performed and the heart is ripped out, there is a waterfall of blood that follows after soon after which the persons body collapses…its not even soon, its actually falling as the blood cascading effect plays along….

As far as Zacque could tell…there was nothing wrong with Sorachan…he seemed perfectly alright even without his heart. In fact, he was making weird expressions….although his face was not visible with all the bandages covering it up….however…there was enough change in the atmosphere around Sorachan…..at first it seemed he was pondering over something….more pondering…some bits of being noble? Then angry…and finally laughing….

In short it was the most disturbing sight ever….on a number of scales….the heart…and the laughing…

“ZACUQE GET AWAY FROM HIM!” Vanessa screamed as she recovered from the initial shock.

This wasn’t an ordinary adventurer after all. There was something terribly wrong with him and it was partly explained by the fact that he wrapped in bandages from head to toe. She couldn’t guess at the time which monster was he….but when she thought of all the possible strong monsters that could survive without a heart none came to her mind.

Vanessa’s screaming brought back Sora’s attention.

Sora looked around slowly from the corner of his eyes and then looked at Zacque.

“KUUU….ARGHHH….. MY HEART….” Sora screamed as he held the open spot in his chest.

Sora the crashed to the ground violently on chest and his body began writhing in pain?

“ARGHH…..” Sora groaned. As he stretched his hand out towards his heart which Zacque still held up in the air.

Zacque took a step back in fright and held the heart even higher unconsciously…just in case.

“Keh…my …. Hea…rt….you….killl…ed…me…” Sora mumbled as his head fell to the ground.

Zacque looked at Sora while still completely white.

“Is he dead?” Zacque asked while still uncertain whether it was safe to move or not.

Every soldier looked at Sorachan with great curiosity.

They were troubled by what they saw.

They were troubled because they didn’t know if such a thing was possible.

Did the adventurer realize late that he had been gruesomely murdered?

Is such a thing even possible?

An awkward silence picked up in the absence of anyone moving.

Everyone was simply staring at Sorachan just to make sure he really was dead.

No one was really certain….especially with the last moments of the adventurer.

It was something too stupid to call an act….no one could be that dumb to believe that people could fall for such a thing…so would that mean that was really him collapsing in pain?

The soldiers just didn’t know.

This adventurer gave them more headaches than the last few decades worth of spies did.

There was no logic of his that they could follow. He was completely unpredictable.

Vanessa looked with dismay and confusion at Sorachan.

“What is he?” She could only say.

Although, she would advise Zacque to run away, the entire act that unfolded before her left her dumbfounded.

Vanessa was just too uncertain.

“Zacque step back…” She finally said.

Zacque looked at Vanessa and then at the corpse next to him.

This is the second time that they have technically killed him….and they are still very uncertain that they have succeeded.

Zacque slowly put the heart next to Sorachan’s body, fearing that if he moved to quickly he might wake up the dead….or the pretending to be dead? He then took step backwards while still facing Sora’s corpse.

“Is it alive?”

“Couldn’t possibly be”

Soldiers began whispering to each other the moment Zacque was in safety’s range.

“Did you see that?”

“Yeah…”

“It was alive for a who ten ticks before it fell to the ground…”

“It was like it didn’t even know it had been killed…”

“It didn’t look very dead to me…”

“Yeah I know what you mean…”

“What dies like that?”

“That was a bit over dramatic…”

“You think it is faking it?”

“I think we ought to check…”

The soldiers all looked at Vanessa who was still trying to make heads or tails of what she just saw.

“Sliver… ” Vanessa called out.

A soldier stepped out. He was completely hooded and cloaked like Sorachan, making his face completely invisible to others.

“Yessss Commander.” The man shouted out.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Can you tell me what you see…” Vanessa asked.

The soldier removed his cloak, to reveal a vipers head in place of a human head. He had a silvery head of that of a snake. His neck was long….so he normally kept it slightly coiled up. If one observed carefully, then one would notice the scales completely covered the man from head to toe. Of course it wasn’t clearly visible because he kept himself wrapped up.

Nobody was shocked to see this. After all everyone knew Sliver as they beast race tribe man from the race of the Serpants. Amongst all the beast race tribe people, the Serpant race was known to amongst the stronger ones. They were even rumoured to be a branch lineage of the Dragon Beast Tribe….though only rumoured to be….the Dragon lineage tribe was more along the lines of folklore.

What really made Sliver stand out apart from the fact that he was a Serpant humanoid was the fact that he was wearing aviator like goggles. Sliver removed his goggles with his claw like fingers and then stared at Sorachan.

“His body is blue like the sssssky…” Sliver responded.

“Then he is dead?” Vanessa asked just to be doubly sure.

“Dark and cold….like it was never alive….” Sliver continued.

Vanessa didn’t even know what that meant.

“Is it breathing?” A soldier asked as they all were curious to know.

“I’ll take care of that. Alive or dead. Breathing or not, this will take care of him.” Ramona said as she lifted her hand into the air. She had grown quite frustrated of this adventurer. She liked her missions to be crisp and short. She liked to go about chasing and killing and maybe some more chasing. But after that Ramona liked nothing more than taking a break. In fact breaks made a big part of her entire work hours….either ways she was past her limits of doing nothing but staring.

She didn’t understand what was the big fuss in one measly Class E adventurer.

She didn’t understand why everyone was so shocked.

She didn’t understand why Vanessa was being overly cautious.

Which is why she wasn’t commander; but not that it matters. Ramona decided to take matters into her own hands this time.

“Deadly sins of the past , heed my words, shroud the land with your sorrowful ordours…come forth poisonous fog..” Ramona said as she pointed her arm at Sorachan.

Sora’s body was engulfed in a poisonous fog which swirled around him for five minutes before dispersing into nothingness.

Those five minutes felt like an eternity….but Ramona had to be sure. She was certain nothing could live without air for more than five minutes.

“I think we finally got it.” A soldier said as he let out a breath of relief.

“Damn adventurers, they are handful aren’t they..”

“To think we managed to get one without the Cardinal’s help.”

“Shhh…don’t take his name….he’s live the devil….he always knows when you are speaking about him…”

“Naah….the fool’s drunk as hell….I doubt he has a clue that there is an adventurer in town…”

“No adventurer has dared to step foot in a hundred years in Feladonia…”

“I think you meant five hundred…”

"At least we managed to preserve the body..."

"There is big money in those things..."

"Yeah the Old One offers a bag of gold to whoever keeps the body intact of an adventurer..."

"What does he do with those?"

"I hear he hangs them for show..."

Everyone looked at disgust at the soldier who said that.

"No he uses them for experiments..."

Vanessa raised her hands to quieten the soldiers. They tended to chatter way too much when things lightened up even in the tiniest bit.

Vanessa was still serious as ever. Even at this moment she did not believe that they managed to kill Sorachan.

“Sliver?” Vanessa asked again for the Serpant beast man for advise.

“As before, his body is dark as death and stone.” Sliver confirmed that there was no heat emitted from Sorachan’s body.

“Ha! What do you think of that?” She said as she smiled and looked at Vanessa for approval. She was clearly indicating that she was overdue for a raise…or even a bonus would do. Ramona didn't care as long as she got the extra money.

Vanessa shook her head in disdain. She knew what Ramona was hinting at but she didn't approve of it.

Vanessa was thankful to Ramona, even in this tense moment her friend was able to understand her apprehensions and come up with a way to make the atmosphere light.

Vanessa knew she was just being overly cautious. However, that was the result of the harsh training to become a Commander.

Ramona confidently walked over Sorachan’s corpse and dug her high heels into Sora’s body.

She posed as if she hunted down a lion or some dangerous beast.

Zacque would have objected to her taking credit for the kill however he stopped short when the corpse went, “Ouch.”
