Chloe groaned on the sands of an unknown island. "Did anyone get the number of that thunderbolt?!" she muttered and rolled onto her stomach. Her chin pressed against the sand as her one good eye surveyed the landscape. Strange creatures were lounging on the beach. They resembled yellow or green tufts with large black eyes, yellow bird beaks and pompom like antennas.
One of them strolled on the sand absent mindedly in front of her. "Uhh...hello?!" Chloe yapped, making it sound more like a demand rather than a greeting.
The creatures marble like eyes turned towards Chloe. It waddled up to her with a spacey, wall eyes look on its face. "Me?" It demanded in a voice that was nasally and high. "You say greetings, bawk?"
Chloe nodded. "Yes I say greetings. Did you not care that me and my friends washed up on this beach from a shipwreck?"
"Shipwrecked?" the creature squawked sounding like a sentient owl but twice as annoying. "I thought you sunbathing! Lovely day. Cloud no in sky! Bawk."
Chloe rolled her eyes. "Thingy? You are somehow more spacey than Sunny."
"Who Sunny?" the creature asked its googly eyes staring at her with slight interest. "Do you mean the sun? Well the sun indeed in space!"
Chloe face palmed and she crawled to her knees. "Can you at least tell me where I am? And what are you?"
The creature nodded. "Bolt Island is where we are. We worshippers goddess Electra. Thunderbawk are we!"
Chloe nodded. "I've heard of Electra. The goddess of storms, but I never heard of her having worshippers. Especially weird bird creatures."
"We are not big tourist attraction," the Thunderbawk remarked tearfully. "Some travel companies not even put us on the map!"
Chloe raised an eyebrow. "Hmm. Were they afraid you'd be too annoying?"
"No comment, bawk," the Thunderbawk said, gripping its talons into the sand.
"Anyway..." Chloe said, rubbing her chin. "Did you see a big boat shaped like a whale...and maybe a few other strange characters?"
"They humanoid like you?" the Thunderbawk asked.
"Yes," Chloe nodded.
"We did indeed. We found few weirdos and..." The thunderbawks eyes went wide with amazement. "And a demi god!"
Chloe scratched her head. "A demi god?"
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
The Thunderbawk bowed its head. "We discover him with you. Truly a happy day. An acolyte of Electra! Come with me and we worship together."
Chloe climbed to her feet. She scratched her head. "We had a demi god with us? I don't recall anyone exactly being divine on my crew."
Chloe's eyes glinted. "Though Monica does have the looks of a goddess!"
The Thunderbawk led Chloe up the beach where numerous other strange creatures gaped at her with their wide eyes. "I'd be careful," Rosemary warned in her head. "Maybe there's another reason these poofballs don't have their island on the sea charts."
Chloe walked up a pair of stone steps. Chloe responded curtly, I just think these birdbrains probably annoyed them off the island.
They passed a trio of Thunderbawks who had somehow pile on top of each other. "We Bawkloni sandwich!" they changed. "Ready to serve to our goddess with sandwichy goodness!"
"I'd just watch out," Rosemary warned. "These Islanders seem a bit strange."
You think? Chloe thought as she watched a purple Thunderbawk stand beside a rock that was roughly the size of him.
"This my pet rock," the purple bird creature said. "Or maybe this rock's pet is me! It's all relative."
Chloe entered the village. Numerous brown nests were constructed like residences. As Chloe passed by them, she noticed more Thunderbawks along with multicolored babies and eggs all lying in the nest houses. At the center of the village was a crudely made, but very flamboyant statue of a busty woman with a thunderbolt ponytail, rectangular glasses and a business suit. A thunderbolt was engraved in the center of the pedestal she was on.
"This our goddess, Electra!" the tour guide Thunderbawk said. "People say she foxy. But she no is a fox. Me confused by that statement."
"I wish I knew more about Electra than the fairy tales." Chloe muttered.
"Well," Rosemary said. "Most gods and goddesses are extremely temperamental and she is considered the biggest diva of all. And coming from me, honey, that's saying something."
Chloe scratched her head in confusion. "Maybe she struck down our boat..."
"Possibly," Rosemary answered.
"But why..."
"Ahhh..." the Thunderbawk exclaimed. "Our demigod. He appearth. Why do I haveth a lisp now?"
Chloe looked beside the statue and did a double take. Surrounded by an army of poofy puffballs was none other than Vinnie the Eel. His lean, handsome face was painted with purple triangles and he wore a grass skirt over his pinstriped tuxedo. "Ey...Chloe..." he said, in his deep gangsters voice. "Check me out. I'm da king of de birds..."
His arms slumped. "If only dey were birds as in ladies....but I digress."
Chloe smirked and crossed her arms. "I never thought I'd be happy to see you, you big palooka! Are you really a demi...."
Vinnie rushed over to Chloe and covered her mouth. "Shush toots. Dey think I'm a god because I can shoots lightning from my hands!"
"I know it's a pirate thing to do," Chloe said. "But are you sure you should be lying to them?"
"Ey..." Vinnie said. "No harm no foul. Or fowl in dis case!"
"Ok..." Chloe muttered. "I'll let you have a big head. These are the only chicks you'll ever be able to get."
Chloe's eyes scanned the village. "Just where are the others?"
"The others?" One of the Thunderbawks asked, tilting his head. "The other humanoids?"
"Yes..." Chloe demanded. "Where are they?"
"Ah..." the Thunderbawk said, a certain shadow falling over its face. "They sacrifices to the great demi god, Vinnie the Eel and his mother, Goddess Electra."
Chloe's mouth dropped open. "Wait...whaaaaaaaat?"
"And you will be too!"
The Thunderbawks all surrounded Chloe with wide smiles on their beaked faces. Out of nowhere, they drew blowguns and fired several darts I to Chloe's neck. She wobbled back and forth and collapsed.
