Chapter 57: Clash of the Tridents

Chapter 57: Clash of the Tridents

King Phil Le flexed his lean, but well cut muscles. He clutched a trident that glowed as gold as the sun that lit up the sky. His cape fluttered dramatically behind him as the fishman displayed a regal air. "This trident was a gift from the god of the ocean himself, the Sea King!" Phil Le boasted. "And it would be an utter shame to let him down when protecting what he loves dear: the ocean herself! As long as I am alive, demon, I will not let you take the ocean."

Fienmond snapped his fingers and a jet black trident formed in his clammy hands. It was blacker than death itself. "And this trident..." Fienmond said, was pilfered from the God of the Everworld. The very one used to reap sailors lost at sea!"

"Arr..." Captain Abacab muttered. "I didn't know this be a trident measuring contest."

The two kings ignored him and instead brandished their weapons mightily. Chloe, in particular was in awe from the king of the Fishysauz' noble resolution. She grasped the sides of her blouse tightly as she watched.

Phil Le jabbed his trident right at the fiend's neck. The demon moved aside, but did not notice the golden glow around the three pronged tip. It emitted and zapped the inhuman monster, causing him to let out a gutteral roar.

"Master!" Lady Taon cried.

"I forgot to tell you!" Phil Le said with a confident laugh. "The Sea King designed this trident for the exact purpose of banishing demons like yourself! He and the God of the Everworld don't exactly get along."

Fienmond shook his long, ragged hood. There was a sinister glow in his singular red eye. "So I've heard," he said with a laugh. "But let me answer that with some powers of my own!"

The demon swirled his jet black trident around creating a inky cloud around him. The aura was so thick it caused everyone to choke in the smokey fog. No one could see anything, much less Fienmond. Chloe watched carefully, seeing the golden glow in front of her. The trident of the Sea King was the only thing that radiated in front of her. Fienmond's revolting laugh echoed through the fog. "This trident has the ability to create a stronger miasma than a squidossus! Good luck finding me."

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

There was the sound of jabbing and a cry. The hands holding the golden trident faltered. "Phil Le!" Chloe cried from the depths of the fog.

The king had stumbled backwards from the wounds, allowing Chloe to see dark miasma dripping from his punctures. Chloe placed her hands on his scaly arms.

"No worries," he said, trying to remain confident. "Tis only a scale wound!"

"Ugh..." he gasped as ooze ran down his tainted holes in his arm.

Everyone cried as the fog dissolved. Fienmond appeared across from Phil Le. "Are you done already?" he scoffed. "Perhaps I forgot to mention that those who are wounded with my trident are tainted with death from the inside. Your body will rot from the inside out!"

Phil Le managed to give a weakened look of confidence. "Then it's best I finish you off before that!"

Fienmond chortled again. "You barely have the will to stand, let alone kill me!"

He jabbed his trident right in the king's direction. "Perhaps it's best I put this sick little shrimp out of his misery."

The possessed Taon and Sanders both cheered for the fish king's blood as Fienmond moved closer and closer to him with his weapon drawn

"Save yourselves..." the king gasped like a fish in dry land.

"No way!" Chloe cried. "We're not gonna leave you to die. We still have a chance to beat him."

"Not like this..." Phil Le said. "The Sea King exists in a weakened state. There's no way even his secondary trident can overcome the evils of the deep!"

Chloe growled so angrily when she saw Fienmond who had leveled one of the noblest kings of the sea. The demon pirate king continued to walk slowly towards his prey. "I'm...telling...you," Phil Le said. "For the good of the ocean...live to fight another day!"

The king of the Fishysauz let out a cry and a golden light enveloped Fiemond, himself and his followers leaving them in a temporary stasis.

Chloe's body surged with anger. Her hatred, combined with Rosemary's caused her arms to turn purple and veiny. Fienmond raised his trident over the good king. She ran to defend him but at the last second, she was seized by Ramone. "My queen he is protecting us. We have to go!"

"But Rammy," she cried. "I can't let another ruler of the sea go down like this!"

"I know!" Ramone shouted back. "But he is doing this so we can succeed!"

At last, Chloe simmered down and sighed. She looked up at the bold king frozen in time with his enemies. She turned to Ramone. "He was a true leader! Even I've got nothing on him!"

She turned to her allies. "His sacrifice will not be in vain," she shouted as they made their departure from the circus arena!
