Chapter 27: A Pirate's Life Not For Me

While Ramone and Abacab were puffing and panting, clearly unhappy with carrying Monica's unconcious body through the crowded port, Chloe delighted in running with an unconscious gangster in tow. "I'm savoring this very moment," she exclaimed to Ramone, "for this is the first time I'm truly running from the law!"

"This is nothing to be proud of Queen Annabell," the goatman said, very frustrated. "I could be cozying up right now in my upstairs apartment with my plush goat slippers. Not actual ones mind you, but patterned very nicely after yours truly. Instead, I've been spending my life running from the law like some hardened criminal! If we survive this, I'm gonna have a very stern talking to to you, missy!"

Chloe's smile vanished. "You're really that mad at me, Rammy?"

Ramone's line eyes glared at her so harshly she barely recognized him. "Bah, I say, and not even because I'm part goat!"

"Arrr!" Abacab said, as they ran.

"Are you angry too?!" Chloe asked.

"Nah, lass," the crazy captain answered. "I be a pirate and that's just what we say!"

Chloe was suddenly not having as much fun. As Chief Inspector Valcom gave chase, Chloe scowled angrily. "Curse you for stealing my friend," she muttered as the giant detective shoved fishysauz and sailors out of the way.

They were getting much closer to the whaleboat, but surprisingly, even with a giant anchor arm, the detective steadily gained momentum as she ran. With a giant leap forward, Ramone and Abacab plunged onto the boat with Monica in tow. As she fell onto the wooden planks, the swordswoman muttered, "Not yet, Madre. I do not want the salsa with the empanadas!"

Chloe took a peek behind her. Valcom wasn't close enough to grab her, but she was in firing range. The enormous anchor arm blasted itself directly at her. Using her demonic reflexes, time slowed down between the firing of the anchor and the time it took to reach its destination. In that time, Chloe managed to leap out of the way, carrying Vinnie the Eel like a baby in her arms. (Despite him being several heads taller than her.)

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Chloe gallantly landed on her two feet and placed the sea gangster down. He too mumbled like a baby when she landed.

"Anchors away!" Captain Abacab said as the ship begun to sail away from the port. Chloe turned around and stuck her tongue out at Valcom who stood alone on the docks.

Chloe expected the butch cop to be fuming at her, but there was a smirk upon the dark haired lady's face. Chloe suddenly noticed that her anchor chain had hooked onto the boat's railing. "Mother-puffer!" Chloe swore. "The Anchors not away."

Like a grappling hook, Chief Inspector Valcom shot forth on the anchor, zooming straight at the boat.

"What do I do?! What do I do?! Chloe panicked, running back and forth like a headless liccan.

"Perhaps," Rosemary whispered. "Use this squishy brain thing my eye stalk is tethered to and remove the anchor!"

Chloe ran towards and heaved at it, but she was too late. The commander flipped onto the deck.

"I always get my man," Valcom boasted with a smirk on her face. "Or in this case, a little child!"

"You'll never take me alive, copper!" Chloe screamed at the top of her lungs, and she grinned. "Wow, I always wanted to say that!"

"Mind her hand, you imbecilic child" Rosemary shouted as Valcom staggered a grasp at Chloe.

With hands the size of a gorilla's, Valcom grabbed Chloe's white blouse even as she slipped out of reach.

"Hah!" the ultra strong woman said. "I have you now! Nothing can stop me!"

The boat began to rock back and forth. Chloe looked up at the Chief Inspector who had suddenly lost her confident complexion. She turned green and her eyes began to roll around her head. She stumbled backwards with a groan. "What's wrong with you?!" Chloe screamed as the commander began to dizzily wander around the ship like a pirate who raided a wine ship.

"Guh...sea sickness..." she said, and puked all over Ramone's shoes.

"Goodness gracious, lady!" Ramone said, "If you weren't our enemy right now I'd get you a chair!"

There was the loud turning of a wheel, the ship make a harsh left turn and with nothing to hold onto, the commander plunged into the drink.

"Abacab!" Chloe exclaimed with joy in her eyes. "You saved us! But how did you know to do that?"

Abacab winked at the wheel of whaleboat. "It's usually the most sturdiest of lads (and lasses) that lose their grip out at sea! It's an old captain's tale but it looks like it came true for us today!"

Abacab burst into a hardy round of 'ar har hars' and Chloe joined in with some belly laughs. Unfortunately, a hoove on her shoulder reminded her that all was not well.

"A word with you, Queen Annabell!" Ramone shouted at his former friend.
