Finally done with the semester. Just one final party on Monday to wrap everything up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The man in gold and black stepped forward as others in a similar gold and black robe appeared, but they lacked the golden dragon that the man in front of them had.
"It was a mistake to teach you and the others that technique Yee," said Zedd.
Name: Yee
Level: 84
Class: Divine Swordmaster
Sub-Class: Golden Dragon Warrior
Stats: High Strength, High Agility
"The clans have put the magic seals that you taught us to great use to control our spirits," said Yee. "But that's not what I'm here for today. I never thought you would be here. The clans would gladly put you on trial for your crimes."
"I refuse," said Zedd. "I have nothing to answer to. Everything I did was in service to the Viceroys and the Emperor. They are the only ones who can judge what I've done."
Garnet realized that the magic circle that Zedd used were most likely being modified by the clans in order to seal spirits within them. It made sense now why Zedd did not want to speak about it and why he was valued so much. He alone could shift the balance of power with his techniques.
"I suppose I'll have to take you with me by force," said Yee. "We're a lot stronger than when you were last here!" he shouted.
In terms of levels, Yee was fairly high, higher than when Garnet first met Zedd. However, Zedd had gotten a lot stronger and was most likely more than a match for Yee. However, they could not let their guard done. "I sense at least eight of them," said Riley.
Garnet focused and tried to see how many there were. There were eight in the immediate area excluding Yee, but there were another three hiding in different places among the ruins. "Be careful, there's another three in hiding," said Garnet.
"Dragon Fangs!" Yee's entire body began to emit a faint yellow light as scales emerged from his body, covering his hands, his neck, and parts of his face. "Dragon's Bone Activate!"
The bone in Yee's arm glowed yellow as it began to cover the rest of his body in scales. His back even sprouted a pair of golden wings. "What did you do to your spirit?!?" Zedd shouted angrily.
"I found a way to use its power without its approval," said Yee. He stomped the ground with his leg causing three rocks to float up into the air. With a loud thud, each rock was sent flying towards Zedd.
"You fool!" Zedd shouted as he smashed the rocks aside with his bare hands. "You've doomed yourself and entire clan!"
"What was that?" Garnet asked. "It wasn't magic."
"I don't know," said Riley. "Do you?" she asked as she turned to Xiaomei.
"No," said Xiaomei. "It's not chi nor mana."
Zedd and Yee continued to exchange projectiles. Zedd fired weak bolts of fire at Yee while Yee continued to manipulate the rocks. "This will be over if you surrender yourself to us," said Yee.
"What's he talking about?" Garnet asked.
"When you gain the approval of a Divine God, the Divine God imbues your spine with its own blood and marrow, granting you power that can potential rival the Divine God's," Xiaomei explained. "However, if you take a bone from a Divine God and implant it in yourself, in theory, it should grant you a similar power, but it will most likely permanently cripple the Divine God. They must have found a way to forcibly suppress the Divine God."
Garnet thought about it for a moment. "Did they capture their own Divine God?" Garnet asked.
"It is possible," said Xiaomei. "After all, the most important thing is to monopolize its power."
"But that sounds like there would be serious consequences to doing such a thing," said Riley.
"It is likely their Divine God will eventually die and their power will begin to decline as they are forced to pass down the powers of the Divine God through multiple generations," said Xiaomei.
Thirty percent was the maximum amount that could be transferred if it was done between people. The second generation was already thirty percent of thirty percent. Each generation would be thirty percent of the previous and so on. Before long, there would only be small droplets of power that remained in each one. In exchange for power now, the clan had sacrificed their own future.
"Focus on the fight in front of you," said Garnet. "We'll take care of the rest."
"I'll explain everything to you guys later," said Zedd. "Watch out for any Boosters they might be using."
The eight people in the gold and black robes formed a wall and began to march towards them. Garnet could make out six men and two women. Zedd walked forward and the eight opened a hole for Zedd to pass through to face Yee. They then spread themselves out, two per person.
Zedd approached Yee. "If you think you can win, then you surely must be joking," said Yee. "I've been training since we met and I will not lose."
"My comrades are stronger than you think," said Zedd. "I'm going to weaken you enough just so that you can watch so you can see how wrong you are."
"Golden Dragon's Sixth Verse, Dragon's Wingbeat!" FWOOSH. Yee released a powerful burst of wind from his wings.
"Null Wind Zone!" Zedd countered with his own technique. He swung his hands as a powerful burst of wind began to circle around them. They were now standing in the eye of the tornado, where the winds were weakened. With a single move, Zedd had neutralized Yee's attack and took away his ability to fly.
Zedd began to channel lightning into his fingertips. "Thousand Bolts!"
BZZT. The lightning surged throughout Yee's body. "Guh!" Yee groaned. He pushed forward and reached out his hand, resisting the effects of lightning. He was barely able to move, but that little bit was enough. "Hah!" Yee shouted as he stomped the ground, raising a barrier of rocks between him and the lightning.
"I win," said Zedd. "Wall of Brambles!" Vines emerged from the ground and wrapped around Yee, pressing his body against the rocks he had just created.
"Impossible," said Yee. "I've grown so much stronger than everyone else, I was sure I was stronger than you."
"But I've grown as well," said Zedd. "My comrades are not as weak as you think. You can watch as your comrades fall."
"There's a bounty on your head Mei," said the man who took the lead.
Name: Lucco
Level: 64
Class: Senior Swordmaster
Sub-Class: Dragon Warrior
Stats: High Dexerity
"Are they willing to risk so much to capture me?" Xiaomei asked.
"You know a clan's power is dependent on whether they can control access to it," said Lucco. "I'll gladly bring you back home. Kill the rest," he ordered.
The others drew their swords. "Serpentine Art, First Verse, Serpent's Skin!" Xiaomei deployed the green cloak around her body as she prepared for combat. Everyone else readied themselves as well.
"Transform: Nine Tailed Fox!" Garnet wanted to give her new form a try out as well.
"Transform: Magic Gunner!" Riley transformed too. She wielded a small handgun instead of her usual larger rifle.
"I never thought we'd have enemies to worry about here as well," said Quinton.
"You'll learn that no matter where you go, you will have enemies as long as your goals conflicts with theirs," said Garnet.
Lucco and the others pulled out a small crystal filled with a red liquid inside.
Name: Divine Dragon's Blood
Quality: Mythical
Effect: Enhances Dragon related abilities for 30 minutes.
They all drank the liquid in the crystals. Together they transformed. "Divine Dragon Art, First Stance, Dragon Scales!" Each of them grew black scales and wings. They looked a little like Garnet's old transformation except that there were horns that grew backwards and sharp fangs in their mouth. They resembled miniature dragons.
"Two each," said Garnet as she charged forward. Each of them would have to defeat two of the enemies before them. Garnet pulled out her staff. Everyone scattered towards their enemies.
Garnet's new form was incredibly fast as she was the first to reach the group that stood before them. "Swinging Smash!" She swung the staff horizontally.
CLANG. One of the females in the group blocked it with her sword.
Name: Hana
Level: 60
Class: Senior Swordmaster
Sub-Class: Dragon Warrior
Stats: High Agility
The strength of the blow was still enough to push her off her feet, but the man next to her caught her before she fell to the ground. "She's strong," said Hana.
"Back up squad!" Lucco shouted in reaction to this information.
Another three consisting of two men and a woman joined them. It was the ones in hiding. There was now a total of eleven enemies. "I'll take on these five," said Garnet.
"Do you think you can actually take on five Senior Disciples from the Golden Dragon Clan alone?" asked one of the men.
Name: Simon
Level: 60
Class: Senior Swordmaster
Sub-Class: Dragon Warrior
Stats: High Dexterity
The others were already fighting. Quinton was the one who struggled the most as he used blood magic, which hurt himself to use. "Of course not," said Garnet. "Call: Cerberus!"
Garnet called forth eight of her Cerberus. "I never intended on fighting you alone," she said as she began to channel her magic.
The group in front of Garnet took a step back. "Magic!" shouted Hana.
"Calm down," said Lucco. "We can take her together," he said as he pulled out a white and gold sword.
Garnet could hear some mumbling from the sword, but not a clear voice. "Was it being suppressed?" she thought.
Lucco raised his hand and projected his Intent towards Garnet. FWOOM. The burst of chi was deflected by Garnet's own Mana Armor. Garnet wanted that power for herself, and this was the first chance she had to take it from someone.
After seeing the results of his Intent, Lucco wasted no time as he readied his sword. He was the first one to lead the charge against Garnet. The first Cerberus snapped forward at Lucco. Lucco twisted his body to the side and used the Cerberus as a springboard to jump higher. It was a move Garnet had seen Xiaomei do once. "Three Pronged Strike!"
Lucco used his sword and aimed for Garnet's shoulder. It was the first time Garnet had seen someone use a multiple hit sword skill other than Anna. "Quadruple Strike!" The first strike from Garnet's staff knocked the first strike sideways. The second staff strike pushed Lucco off course. BAM. The staff then sent Lucco crashing into the ground. Lucco quickly rolled sideways before the finishing blow could strike him. "I was certain that would have gotten you," said Garnet.
The other attackers began to look worried. Garnet was clearly a tougher opponent than they were meant to be dealing with. They all began to rush Garnet in unison. Using the staff, Garnet positioned it horizontally as she maneuvered it to start deflecting each of the approaching strikes.
The members of the Golden Dragon Clan had to keep a minimum distance in order to avoid being hit. When they got close, the Cerberus began to move.
ROAR. The Cerberus interrupted their charge. They managed to push away three of the attackers, reversing the two on one situation for everyone. The attackers were now the ones who were outnumbered.
CLANG. CLANG. CLANG. The repeated strikes against Garnet's staff created a resonating sound that spread throughout the whole battlefield.
"What?!?" shouted one of the attackers as his sword became trapped in the Cerberus's body. No matter how hard he pulled, he could not remove the sword.
With that, Garnet knew that even her summoned Cerberus could be a match for them. After all, these warriors lacked the same destructive power that a magic user had. It would be very hard for them to destroy the Cerberus in a single attack. "Divine Dragon Art, Second Stance, Wingbeat of the Dragon!"
FWOOM. The one swordsmen released a powerful burst of wind from his sword as he forcefully removed the sword stuck to the Cerberus and pushed each other apart.
With the use of each of the Divine Dragon Arts, the enemies were getting stronger. "Lightning Fire Bolt!" Garnet fired her magic towards Lucco.
Lucco swung his sword in an attempt to deflect the attack. BOOM. The moment Lucco's sword came in contact with the spell, it exploded, knocking him and several others back. His sword suffered no damage. It was most likely being protected by something. "Divine Dragon Art, Third Stance, Dragon Claw!"
Lucco swung his sword, releasing a yellow beam of light that dug through the ground. Garnet jumped to the side to avoid it. BOOM. There was the sound of an explosion in the distance.
Garnet was able to reposition herself in mid-air while in the fox form, allowing her to use the air as if it was the ground. As she did so, the magic trigram appeared underneath her feet. Although she could not fly in this form, she could pull of similar feats as long as she kept track of the position of her feet. She could even propel herself by jumping multiple times in a short distance. "Fox Fire!"
Each of Garnet's tails began to emit a blue flame at the tips. Each of the tails released fire bolts that could be made to target different people on the battlefield. It produced a lot of chaos as the enemies had to track multiple targets. Garnet did not stop there though. She continued her assault in order to create as much confusion as possible. "Doppel Rush!"
Three exact copies of Garnet appeared. They all charged forward at Lucco. Lucco swung his sword at the first one. BAM. The copy of Garnet grabbed the sword, stopping it before disappearing. "Sweeping Kick!"
The second clone tripped Lucco, causing him to lose his balance. The third clone jumped straight up into the air with the staff. "Vertical Smash!"
Hana and Simon quickly rushed to Lucco's side in order to help him against Garnet. Most of their forces were now focused on her.
BAM. The staff struck Lucco's sword as he was pushed into the ground. "It seems like I underestimated you," he said.
Riley was the one who had the greatest advantage over the others. She did not need a vocal command to attack other than to switch the type of bolts that she was using. "Lightning Bolt!"
BANG. BANG. BANG. As Riley fired several bolts of lightning, one of the disciples stomped the ground like Yee had, creating several rocks between them. The lightning broke apart as it came into contact with the dirt. The second disciple began to kick the rocks, sending them flying towards Riley. "Fire Bolt"
BOOM. Each shot of Fire Bolt was more destructive, easily blowing apart the rocks. Unlike Garnet though, Riley had no summons to even out the odds. "Metal Craft: Sword!"
Riley held a sword in one hand and a gun in the other. She barely remembered any sword skills that Garnet had used and only remembered the basics. It was mostly going to be for defense if an enemy got too close. She had already felt Garnet channeling magic for her summons.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
One of the disciples dive kicked the rock, using the rock for cover. Riley fired her Fire Bolt at the rock. BOOM. The rock broke to pieces as she turned around and swung her sword. "Horizontal Slash!"
The Golden Dragon Disciple prepared an overhead slash. "Avalanche!"
Riley recognized this skill. It was not just a simple sword skill, it also attacked with the element of the user. She instantly backed away, abandoning her sword.
BOOM. A huge amount of dirt fell from the area around the sword, creating a pile of rocks where Riley was just standing. "Feeling outmatched yet?" asked the disciple.
"In about two seconds," said Riley.
"What?" said the disciple, who was unsure of what Riley was referring to.
From out of nowhere, a Cerberus leapt towards the disciple, pushing him to the ground. Riley took advantage of this chance to shoot the other. "Frigid Javelin!"
Three long pointed shots of ice were launched by Riley towards the disciple who raised rocks around himself to defend.
"Gah!" There was suddenly a scream.
As Garnet turned to see what happened, she saw that Riley had taken down the first of the Golden Dragon Clan disciples. There were several small holes in his torso. Around him were several rocks with holes in them as well. Riley had pierced not only the rocks, but the person behind them as well.
Garnet continued her assault onto Lucco, Hana, and Simon. "Doppel Rush!" She repeated use the ability to cause distraction, forcing them to focus on defense rather than attacking.
"There's so many of them," said Simon.
Each Doppelganger that they struck down, another one appeared in its place. "Blood Bind!"
As Hana struck the last Doppelganger, red ropes appeared right behind it, tying her down. "What is this?!?" she shouted.
Lucco attempted to slash at the red ropes that bound Hana to the ground. BAM. They were incredibly tough. His sword only chip it slightly. "Keep her safe and stay out of my way," said Lucco.
Simon stood between Garnet and Hana. Lucco held his sword with both hands as he thrusted it into the air. "Divine Dragon Art, Eighth Stance, Soul of the Divine Dragon!"
A beam of light shot straight up out of his sword. It began to change shape into the head of a dragon. Lucco swung his sword towards Garnet, the dragon following a direct path to her.
Garnet immediately started jumping sideways. The dragon followed her. As Lucco moved his sword, he was able to redirect the dragon. Garnet had to charge Lucco and force him to break the attack. "Doppel Rush!"
Stat Increase: Agility+1
The three Doppelgangers rushed towards Lucco. Lucco spun around, moving the base of the dragon's neck around in order to deflect them. The technique itself as a combination of offense and defense. It kept the opponent at a distance while making it extremely difficult to attack up close. Lucco separated his hands and drew another sword. The dragon split into two heads. The swords floated up and now moved with Lucco's hands, mimicking their movements. The two swords positioned themselves over his head.
"Breath of the Golden Dragon!" The two dragon heads opened their mouth and began to spray Garnet with yellow flames.
"Tri-Element Breath!" Garnet channeled a breath attack of her own. She could only maintain it for a few seconds, due to its high cost. Her mana regeneration would not be able to offset the ability.
FWOOM. Garnet's breath attack spread far and wide as it ignited the dead grass and trees in the area. The yellow flames were instantly pushed back. Her own attack was of a superior tier, neutralizing Lucco's breath attack.
Lucco reacted by pushing his dragon heads closer, hoping to get more pressure, but it was not enough. Garnet's breath attack was powerful enough to break apart Lucco's dragon creations. Slowly, the light that composed the dragons began to dissolve. The heads began to wrap themselves around Lucco as he attempted to protect himself from Garnet's Lightning Fire Breath.
Garnet continued the breath attack until her mana was depleted. Even though the exchange took place for only a few seconds, the outcome was clear. Lucco's arms had blackened and his nerves were visible thanks to the effect of the lightning.
CLANG. Lucco dropped the swords as he was unable to control or move his arms anymore. "How?" he asked. "I had all the power of my bloodline."
The others had already won their fights. The chaos caused by Garnet had turned the odds against the Golden Dragon Clan. There were even a few people who were caught up in Garnet's breath attack.
"Forcibly drawing out power is not the same as learning how to use it," said Garnet as she carefully approached Lucco. "There's nothing that can substitute proper training and learning to use your abilities."
"Heh, it doesn't matter," said Lucco. "If I fail, they will surely send others deal with you."
"Is everyone alright?" Zedd asked.
The five of them regathered and they were mostly unhurt. They all stood around Lucco who was heavily injured. "What do we do with him?" Xiaomei asked.
"Information of course," said Zedd.
Garnet grabbed Lucco's neck. "Embodiment of Lust!" Direct contact was usually more effective. "Tell me about the Golden Dragon Clan."
"NO!" Lucco shouted as he tried to resist the effects of Garnet's ability. He began to squirm as everyone tried to hold him down.
"What else do we need to know?" Garnet asked.
"How big is your clan?" Riley asked. Lucco did not respond.
Garnet repeated the question. "How big is your clan?" Garnet asked.
"Five thousand strong," said Lucco. "But only about fifty directly received their power from the Golden Dragon."
"In other words, those are the ones we really have to worry about," said Xiaomei.
"Artificial means of empowerment almost always has consequences," said Zedd. "In this case, their physical transformation should be the price."
"Shouldn't we kill him?" Quinton asked.
"We should, but is there anything else we need to know?" Zedd asked.
"How many Artifact Weapons does your clan have?" Garnet asked.
"I don't know, but at least hundreds," said Lucco.
"Alright, finish and absorb them," said Zedd.
Garnet stabbed her sword through Lucco's chest. "Essence Absorption!"

Garnet could not use the skills that she acquired from Lucco and the other members of the Golden Dragon Clan. She reached out to try to grab Lucco's sword. FWOOM. The sword evaporated into air. "What happened?" said Garnet.
"It's a safety precaution," said Xiaomei. "They most likely made it so that if someone without the power of the Golden Dragon touches it, it will return to their armory or another protected location."
"You have some explaining to do," said Riley.
"All of this is my fault," said Zedd. "A long time ago, I showed them how I used my summoning magic in exchange for knowledge about chi and other sources of energy. What I didn't know was what they were doing with that knowledge."
"What happened?" Garnet asked.
"If you invert a summoning circle, you can turn it into a sealing circle," said Zedd. "If you change some of the finer details, you can change the type of energy that is channeled for activation."
"So that's how they acquired the knowledge to create Artifact Weapons and seal spirits inside of them," said Quinton in realization.
"I have a favor to ask of everyone," said Zedd.
"What is it?" Garnet asked.
"I want us to participate in the Annual Tournament and outlaw the use of Artifact Weapons created through the use of spirits if we win," said Zedd.
"The other clans would never agree to such a thing," said Xiaomei. "They would fervently object."
"Would they break the traditions of the Annual Tournament and disagree with the Emperor?" Zedd asked.
Xiaomei thought about it. "I don't think anyone would disagree, but wouldn't the next winner just change the policy and allow it once more?" Xiaomei asked.
There was no easy solution to this problem. The knowledge was out there, and there was no way to contain it. Zedd looking at the ground had a sudden realization. "If they don't follow it, then there is another way to punish them," he said. "If there's a way to seal off the flow of mana and chi, then there has to be a way to seal off access to it as well."
"But for now, what do we do?" Riley asked. "Do we continue with our plans?"
"Let's stick to our plans for now," said Zedd. "I need all of us to be stronger if this plan is going to work."
