Book 2: Chapter 012 - Mystery of the North

Book 2: Chapter 012 - Mystery of the North

Garnet went out early in the morning to look at the progress on Herion's Farm. With Lilith, her Bicorn, she could travel much faster than she ever could on her feet. Garnet was relieved that it seemed to be working so far because the rest of their success would be based on this one farm. Construction on everything except the water mill was already done. They had failed to find others near the river who wanted to try because they believed their methods were fine. It was the worst problem because people clung to tradition and forget that there are times when the new things that are created are much better. The only way to change their minds was to prove that it was superior, so Herion must succeed.

But, now that the basics have been established, there was little for Garnet to worry about since all she could do now was wait. It would take at least a few weeks before the farm could show any progress. It would take at least a few months to find out if she got pregnant. Both required time. She could finally focus on becoming stronger herself. Since she arrived at Duke Wellington's Manor, she spent most of her time working to help Duke Wellington become King, so she neglected to develop her own abilities.

"Call: Skeletal Hounds!" Garnet summoned her hounds for the first time in a while and petted them. They reacted by brushing against her. "Find me creatures that will improve my skills," ordered Garnet.

While the huge increases in stats for absorbing strong enemies was great, what she needed more than that was new skills. Without high level monsters, it was difficult to actually level up. The difference had to be made with powerful skills. What she wanted more than anything was the spell that could bring Riley back, but that would not be easy. It required very advanced magic, something that neither she nor Zedd would have. Second on her list was a movement spell. One that would increase her speed and agility. While Lilith was able to increase her speed, it was a mount, not something that she could use practically in a fight unless it was something like a large battlefield.

As Garnet wandered through, she only saw some weak monsters along the roads. They were just level 5 Wild Boars. They were common to the area around Antium, but there were no signs of anything stronger.

HOWL. One of the Skeletal Hounds found something and had called her. It was by the river, so it was close. Garnet rushed over immediately on her feet, going through Herion's Farm.

New Quest: Murder?

Around the waters of Herion Farms, there have been bodies washing up from upstream. Find out what is causing it.

Reward: Experience, New Skill

Garnet saw the Skeletal Hound. It had stopped howling when Garnet got close to it. In front of it was the corpse of a person laying face down. Garnet approached slowly and turned the body over. It was not someone she recognized. It had no wounds. She focused on it, but the Hero System did not show any window that would help her determine who it was. The only clue was that the body seemed to have washed up from somewhere. On the left side of an arm was a tattoo. It was an anchor with RR on it."Is this a sailor?" thought Garnet. There was no way to be sure. "Were they killed upstream?" thought Garnet. She had no clue. The quest hinted that it was something doing the killing, but there was no way to be sure if it was a creature or a disease or something else entirely.

"Recall!" Garnet summoned her Skeletal Hounds back from wherever they were. "Find any other bodies around here!" The Skeletal Hounds began to search up and down the river. "Teleportation Summoning Circle!" Garnet laid down a circle so that she could return to this spot again easily. If more bodies washed up, there might be more clues. Right now, the only hint was the RR Anchor on the arm.

There was one thing that Garnet wanted to try though. "Blood Absorption!" Garnet absorbed a human for the first time.

New Skill: Call: Skeleton (Level 1)

Summon up to five skeletons to fight by your side. They will acquire weapons, skills, and armor as they become stronger.

MP Cost: 200 each

With the Hounds, she could summon up to a total of eight to fight alongside her. She would most likely not have to worry about being outnumbered now. The question was how strong were they. Since arriving at the manor, Garnet had not seen many creatures, so it was hard to find something to test her strength against. For now, she would just have to make do with what she had. "Perhaps someone has a clue?"

Garnet headed back to the manor to ask around. She went to look for Duke Wellington, but he was not there. "Where is the Duke?" asked Garnet.

"He went out with a few guards," said Anna.

"I see," said Garnet.

"Did you need something?" asked Anna.

"Do you know what an Anchor with Rs on each side of it means?" asked Garnet.

"That's the symbol for the Retired Reserve," said Anna.

"What's the Retired Reserve?" asked Garnet.

"It's a famous group of retired sailors who continue to work in times of emergency further north," said Anna. "It's rare for any of them to come down here."

"I thought I saw a member of it is all," said Garnet. She headed back outside and used the Teleportation Summoning Circle to go back to Herion's Farm. She watched as the guards led by Louis continued to work on building the watermill.

As the guards saw her, they waved her over. "Come here!" said Louis.

Garnet walked over and saw that they were almost done. "How does it look?" asked Louis.

Garnet walked inside of it first without even looking at the inside. She looked down at the center it was not moving yet. She went outside to look at the wheel. It was just above the water. "Lower the wheel," said Garnet. Two of the guards pushed hard on a nearby lever and the wheel moved down, beginning to spin.

Garnet headed back inside and saw that it was moving now. "It looks good," said Garnet. She took a few handful of oats that had been stored inside and placed it into the mill. They all watched as it turned into flour.

"Wow," said Herion. "It would have taken me a long time to do that myself. Processed flour sells for much more than just the raw materials as well."

"This is the power of the watermill," said Garnet. "As long as you can maintain it, it will continue to work. You can even have other farmers who want to use it pay you for now."

"Thank you for this milady, how can I ever repay you and the Duke?" asked Herion.

"Just spread the word of this," said Garnet. "The more people in the Duke's lands who want to build one on their farm, the better. But try not to let it spread too far, we don't want others to try to build their own."

"I understand," said Herion.

The easy part was over, now the problem was to see whether or not the other equipment helped the farm. "How have the crops been?" asked Garnet.

"It's still too early to say," said Herion. "But it has certainly made sowing seeds and watering the plants much easier."

"Mind if I take a look?" asked Garnet.

"Go ahead," said Herion.

Garnet walked back to the main farm and looked at the irrigation system. It let water flow easily, but there was a problem. The ones close to it was getting too much water while the plants further away were not getting enough. They would have to slope it to get it to work properly. "This isn't working," said Garnet. "The distribution of whatever is uneven."

"Then what should I do?" asked Herion.

"You can water the parts close to the river with this, but the ones further away you will have to do normally," Garnet explained as she demonstrated it to Herion. The water flowed inland, but after a certain point, the water stopped, so Garnet picked up some of the tools and began to help water the rest of it.

New Class: Farmer

New Skill: Green Hands (Level 1)

Improves the quality of plants grown

Level Up: Inspection (Level 2)

Level Up: Inventory Expansion (Level 3)

"That makes sense," said Herion. "After all, the water can only move so far by itself, but this will mean I won't have to water a majority of the plants myself."

Garnet did what she could to help Herion. After all, a lot depended on his success. Most of what she wanted to do worked. It would take a total of at least three months to see if there is significant progress with the output on the farm because of the time needed to grow food. "I suppose we're done for now," said Garnet. "Once they finish the watermill, they'll be leaving as well, but send us a message if there's trouble."

"Will do," said Herion.

"There's a problem!" shouted a guard.

Garnet ran over to the watermill. It was a body floating downriver. "Another one?" thought Garnet.

"Quick, get it out!" shouted Louis. They all ran downriver following the body until it washed ashore.

It was exactly where Garnet had found the previous body. It had floated downstream from somewhere else. "This needs to be reported to the Duke," said Louis. "You, go!" shouted Louis as he pointed to one of the guards.

Garnet looked at the arm to see if there was anything that resembled the RR Anchor Tattoo. There was a tattoo of a bird. "What's that?" asked Garnet as she pointed to the arm.

"That's a sailor's tattoo," said Louis. "He must have floated here from the North."

"Another body from the North," thought Garnet. They were both sailors as well. There had to be a connection. Someone was deliberately killing these sailors and sending them downstream. "Can you tell how they died?" asked Garnet.

Louis turned the body over and looked. There were no visible signs of injury. Louis pushed the man's chest in a little and he spat water from his mouth. "He might have died from drowning," said Louis. "But it's uncertain since we don't know how long he has been in the water."

Twice was not a coincidence thought Garnet. Someone was deliberately targeting sailors and killing them. "I'm going to head upstream to see if there are any clues," said Garnet.

"Wait, I'm coming with you," said Louis. "We can't let you go alone." The other guards followed Louis.

"Alright, you can come," said Garnet. If it was indeed a powerful monster, she could use the help. The group headed North of Herion's Farm to look for what could have possibly caused this. However, as they went, there were no signs of what could have killed the man.

"I think if something was here, it's already gone," said Louis. "But that man probably just fell in."

"You're probably right," said Garnet. "Let's head back." She did not want to get them involved. The first time, it could have been an accident. The second time, it was definitely not one. Something was killing these people, and she had to find out what.

Back at the farm, Herion was worried. "Did you find anything?" asked Herion.

"No," said Louis. "I think he might have just fallen in."

"That's a relief," said Herion. "For a moment, I was worried there was a monster out here."

"It was possibly a monster," thought Garnet. The guards and patrols had ensured that there were few dangerous monsters in most of the area, but a few would certainly escape, especially if it was one that lived near or on water. It could probably hide underwater or swim.

Garnet then headed back to the manor on her own, thinking about what could have done it. The problem was that there was no description of the monster. The people found were already dead, but with no visible signs of struggle. The only clues were that both victims were male sailors. There could be numerous different things that could cause such a thing, but without more information, it was impossible to know that. The good thing was that if it was indeed a creature that lived in the water, she could just zap it with a Lightning Bolt and it would be over.

At night, Garnet headed out using the Teleportation circle. At this point, the guards had already gotten used to it and no one dared to try to stop her after seeing some of the things that she was willing to do. On top of that, the agreement between her and Duke Wellington also gave her the right of free travel.

Level Up: Shadow Walk (Level 2)

Garnet made her way North of Herion's Farm. There had to be something there because two bodies had floated down at different times. "Call: Skeletal Hounds! Call: Skeletons! Search for any points of interest!" ordered Garnet. She had no idea what she was looking for, so she could only give a general order. She too moved along the river. With the help of the skeletons, she hoped that it would give her the manpower she needed to find something.

The Skeletons were much slower than the Hounds, but their main advantage was that they could use their arms. They were able to move aside objects and things like tree branches. The only problem was that they seemed weak. They would have to be developed like the Dogs were before they were useful. If there were some Wild Boars or other animals around, she could just have them fight, but there were none here.

HOWL. It was the sound of one of Garnet's Skeletal Hounds. It had found something. Garnet immediately rushed to the location. It was near the river.

Stat Increase: Agility +1

There was a decomposing body. It had been there for a long time and was killed far earlier than the other two people had. She could not tell if there was a tattoo on it due to the decomposition of the body. With a body like that, it would be difficult to determine cause of death or time of death. However, it was near water, so it was likely that whatever killed the other two also killed this one. "Keep looking," Garnet ordered. There was likely to be more.

New Class: Coroner

Level Up: Inspection (Level 3)

"No new skill?" thought Garnet. It was strange. The others all came with at least two skills. This one did not have an Inventory Expansion either. However, this confirmed that there were numerous different trade skills. It was not just tied to manufacturing. There were other skills that fell into the trade skill category.

Garnet continued to make her way North along the river. If all the bodies discovered so far were near rivers, it meant that whatever was doing this either used the river as a dumping ground, or lived in the river. The good thing was that the bodies did not decompose until after they washed up on shore. That meant it was nearby and the likelihood of diseases in the water was much lower.

To Garnet's dismay, she found nothing. No matter where she looked along the river, there was nothing there. None of the skeletons she summoned found anything either. The only thing they found were a few large rocks that stood out in the river. "Teleportation Summoning Circle!" She created another place to teleport near where she found the other body. These were the biggest clues so far. But, it was almost day, and she did not want to be caught walking around with a bunch of skeletons.

As Garnet returned to the manor, she heard rumors spread of the dead body that was found. "Was it a murder?" asked a guard.

"No, there were no wounds on the body," said another.

The only clues so far was that it did its crime near water and there were no signs of visible external injuries on its victims. That was all she could gather for now.

"The lord and I will be heading upstream," said Leeroy as Garnet approached the front gate of the main house.

"May I ask what for?" asked Garnet.

"To discover where the body came from," said Leeroy. "Rumors of it spread quickly and some people near the farm have even gone to see it, so Duke Wellington wants to take care of this himself as soon as possible."

"I understand," said Garnet. "But I didn't see why he would want me to know."

"That's because he wants you to come with," said Leeroy.

"Me?!?" said Garnet as she pointed to herself.

"Yes," said Leeroy. "Now that you two are married, you must make public appearances together as well."

The duties of nobility were that of politicians. They had to make an appearance for show, and she had been married into one. Now, she must put on a show as well. "Fine, I'll go get dressed," said Garnet.

Garnet went to change into her red dress. The color red reminded her a lot of blood for some reason. However, going during the day might be able to reveal some clues. At this point, she could not do much more on her own. Even with the help of her new band of skeletons, she was unable to find anything but rocks. She had to rely on others just a little.

The group first headed off to Herion's Farm, where Duke Wellington wanted to take a look at the progress on the farm. Garnet saw that most of the plants were already sprouting, which was a good sign. The first phase of the plan was working.

"If things work out like this, I'll have five times as much as I did last season," said Herion.

"Five times?!?" shouted Duke Wellington. "That's a lot."

"The problem before was that it took me a lot more time to make my way around the farm," said Herion. "With this, the entire Western side of the farm basically takes care of itself."

"I'll need to expand this to other farms," said Duke Wellington. "Two years is the goal. In two years, all the farms near the river should adopt this system."

However, there as a problem, the inland farms. Even though irrigation worked near the river, the farms inland could not benefit from this. There was not any plastics that could be taken advantage of to change methods, so for now, modernization was confined to near water. "Hey are there any cities or countries with many more than Antium?" Garnet asked Duke Wellington.

"The largest city is to the far far East," said Duke Wellington. "It is said that their largest city holds several million people and is a major trade hub, but it's near impossible to make that journey by land."

"I see," said Garnet. That was a huge clue. Only very advanced countries could manage to have that many people in a single city. She made a mental note of this.

Shortly after, the group headed North, near where Garnet had searched before, but this time, they were traveling along that road. The carriage suddenly came to a stop. "What is that sound?" asked Duke Wellington.

"I don't hear anything," said Garnet.

"You don't hear it?" said Duke Wellington. "It sounds like some kind of song."

Garnet focused and listened. There was nothing. "I don't hear anything," said Garnet.

"Leeroy!" shouted Duke Wellington. "What's going on?"

Garnet looked out the windows and saw the guards very slowly walking towards the river. "Somethings happening to them!" shouted Garnet.

Garnet and Duke Wellington got out of the carriage. The guards were being lured towards the river. There was only one exception.

Name: Charlie

Level: 25

Class: Warrior

Sub-class: Enhancement

Stats: High Vitality

Garnet realized that she could see some stat information of others. It was probably because of the improvement of her Inspection skill. "Charlie, what happened?" asked Duke Wellington.

"I don't know, they all just started walking in that direction together," said Charlie.

"Did anything unusual happen?" asked Garnet.

"No, nothing," said Charlie.

"Do you hear singing" asked Duke Wellington.

"No," said Charlie. "There was nothing unusual before they started walking."

"After them," said Duke Wellington. "This might be why that body washed up near Herion's Farm."

Garnet, Duke Wellington, and Charlie all headed after the guards who were being drawn to the river. Duke Wellington spotted Leeroy. "It's Leeroy!" he shouted.

The three walked up to him. He was staring blankly towards the river. "Wake up!" shouted Garnet. However, Leeroy was continuing to walk. He did not even notice Garnet. She watched and saw as some of the other guards fell over objects and bumped into trees. However, that did not stop them, they were still being drawn in.

"Get away from him!" shouted Garnet. Charlie and Duke Wellington backed away from Leeroy. "Lightning Bolt!" Garnet attempted to stun Leeroy.

Leeroy stopped in his tracks. The lightning flowed throughout Leeroy's body and eventually dissipated. The lightning disappeared and Leeroy continued to walk. "It's not working," said Charlie.

"Go towards the song," said Duke Wellington.

"I can't hear it," said Garnet.

"Me neither," said Charlie.

"Follow me," said Duke Wellington. He was the only one that could hear it for some reason.

"Why is that only he can hear the song?" thought Garnet. "Why is that that neither me nor Charlie can hear it?"

The Duke ran quickly. He made his way through the trees and broke a few branches a long the way. Garnet and Charlie followed as quickly as they could, but fell a little behind still. "There!" shouted Duke Wellington. "It's coming from her."

Garnet looked and saw what appeared to be a woman sitting on top of a rock.

Name: Siren

Level: 15

Class: Mythical

Subclass: Enchantress

Stats: High Charisma

It was a Siren, a monster near waters known for luring men to their deaths. But that did not explain why it did not affect Charlie. Even though Duke Wellington was able to hear it, he too was unaffected by the song. There was something that made all three of them immune to it, but she could not figure out what.

Garnet watched as the guards slowly walk out of the forest. They were heading towards the river. The Siren was a monster that tempted men and lured them to their deaths with their song. The reason why Garnet could not find it was because it was only after men. Duke Wellington could hear the song, but his will was strong enough to not be affected by it. Charlie and Garnet both could not hear it.

Garnet looked at the Duke to see his stats.

Name: Charles Wellington

Level: 60

Dual Class: Duke / General

Sub-Class: Commander

Stats: High Intelligence, High Charisma

His combination of intelligence and charisma most likely gave him some kind of protection against the influence of the Siren. "We need to stop it," said Garnet.

"How?" asked Charlie. "It's not like either of us can swim."

"We won't need to," said Garnet. "Fire Ball!" Garnet launched a spell at the Siren.

BOOM. An explosion blew up the rock that the Siren was sitting on, but there was no body. Garnet looked to see where it was. She saw a shadow underneath the waters. It rose up. She was a woman with long black hair and topless. Garnet could see that she had some scales on her body and instead of legs, she had a tail like a fish. She could have also been considered a mermaid. "Kill the women!" shouted the Siren.

Those words. Plural women, meaning more than one. Charlie was a woman, that was why she and Garnet was unaffected by the song. The Duke probably had strong enough resistance to it because of his level and stats. The guards on the other hand, were physically strong, not mentally strong, making them susceptible to the powers of the Siren. None of them even came close to Duke Wellington in terms of strength and they definitely did come close to his level of charisma or intellect, which might have protected them. Even though the song stopped, the men were still under the control of the Siren. The effects of the song continued even though the song itself stopped. The only way to stop it would be to kill the source, the Siren, so that it could not issue any orders to those under her control or to wait it out. But, there was no clues or hints as to how long that would take, so Garnet had to kill the Siren.

"You have trouble," said Duke Wellington.

Garnet turned around. She saw Charlie trying to fight off some of the guards. They were slowly approaching still, but were trying to grab Charlie. They were lucky that they were not actually trying to kill them with swords. While they were influenced by the Siren, they were moving very slowly and not with much intelligence. They walked and tripped over each other. If there were a lot of them, they would probably trample each other to death before finding a target. The fact that there were only a few guards made it easy to avoid them. "Lightning Bolt!" Garnet unleashed a powerful bolt of lightning.

Level Up: Lightning Bolt (Level 7)

BZZT. She watched as the bodies of the guards twitched from the lightning coursing through their bodies. A few of them even collapsed. When the lightning stopped, they got up and continued. It had no effect. "I have to try something stronger," thought Garnet. "Chain Lightning!"

Powerful bolts of lightning jumped between all of them, hitting Charlie and Duke Wellington as well. AHH. Charlie and Duke Wellington both screamed a little from the shock. Garnet could not control who it hit. It hit its primary target and then bounced outward to all surrounding targets except the caster. "Sorry!" shouted Garnet.

Level Up: Chain Lightning (Level 2)

Stat Increase: Intelligence +1

"Watch it!" shouted Charlie.

"Don't kill them," said Duke Wellington. "They're still my men."

Garnet watched as the guards all recovered from the lightning. It had no effect. "You can't stop them," said the Siren. "They're fallen under my control."

Garnet wanted to use her short sword, but they were still Duke Wellington's men. As one of the guards approached her, she used her short sword to stab him in the leg. The guard did not even respond to the pain. He slowed down though. Even if they weren't in pain, they could still be incapacitated if done properly.

"Hold them off," said Garnet.

"How?" asked Charlie. "There's too many of them."

"Run in circles or something and use the Duke as a shield, they're too stupid to go through him," said Garnet.

"I'll try," said Charlie as she ran towards the Duke.

"I'm going to try to kill the Siren," said Garnet.

The guards were ignoring Duke Wellington for some reason. It was most likely because he was a man. The Siren enchanted men to kill women or enchanted the men to lure them to their deaths. It was trying to do the same thing here. Because of the Siren's orders, they did not go through Duke Wellington, they would bump into him and go around him.

"Lightning Bolt!" Garnet fired a bolt of lightning into the water and looked for any movement. The Siren had to still be nearby otherwise the effect on the men would eventually disappear. The rapidly moving water made it difficult to see.

"NO!" shouted the Siren. It released a terrifying scream that made Garnet's ears hurt.

If Garnet was closer, it probably would have destroyed her hearing. However, the Siren made a mistake. It had revealed itself. As long as Garnet could fire a bolt of lightning close enough, it would be affected by it. "Chain Lightning!" Garnet fired the lightning straight into the water and watched as it spread outward. It affected a much larger area, forcing the Siren to come up to the surface again.

"You dare!" shouted the Siren. It had revealed itself.

Garnet could see the bolts of lightning flowing throughout its body from the electricity. "I got you!" thought Garnet. "Lightning Bolt!"

The Siren flew out of the water and into the sky. Its body was still affected by Garnet's lightning as it pulsated throughout the Siren's body. "What?!?" Garnet was surprised. The Siren had sprouted wings. It no longer had fins. It had legs. It had transformed. Its upper body was still covered in some parts with scales, but it now had bird like wings. It was neither completely fish nor bird. It was some type of hybrid of the two. Even though the Siren was only a level 15 monster, it had numerous abilities that made it terrifying. It now resembled something like a Harpy instead of a Mermaid or a typical Siren.

"Don't worry about us," said Duke Wellington. "I'll take care of these guys."

Garnet quickly turned and saw that there were several guards on the floor. However, they were also picking themselves up. None of them actually stayed down. Duke Wellington had taken them out with his bare hands. Even though he was a noble, he was still a level 60 general that had fought in battles before. He was knocking them down without much trouble.

"Where are you looking?" asked the Siren. It dived towards Garnet.

"Air Bullet!" Garnet released a powerful burst of wind that knocked the Siren back. "Fire Bolt!" Garnet immediately followed it up with another attack while the Siren tried to recover. BOOM. The bolt of fire struck the Siren on its shoulder. It was only a little burnt. Not only did the Siren have incredible abilities, it was also extremely tough. The Hero System had definitely guided her to a powerful creature that had numerous abilities. "I must have that power," thought Garnet.

Garnet watched the Siren. It kept its distance this time. It was gauging Garnet's strength and playing it safe now. It waved its hand towards Garnet, but nothing happened. Garnet quickly took a glance to see if it had done anything around her, but it nothing. Whatever it was doing was probably not working.

Garnet was glad that there were very few creatures here in the Duke's lands. This was just a single one by itself, and it was more powerful and caused more problems than all of the previous ones that she had fought. What worried her the most was that there were probably more of these and possibly even stronger ones out there. If something like this was giving her trouble, then she was not prepared for the invasion in four years' time. Zedd had described it as something even more frightening and more dangerous to the point that where he had to summon the equivalent of a demi-god in order to deal with it.

"Lightning Bolt!" Garnet fired another bolt of lightning. The high speed of this ability made it impossible to dodge, but it dealt very little damage.

BZZT. The Siren was hit by it, and its face only angered. The lightning bolt was not enough to actually stun the Siren or cause any form of significant damage. This gave Garnet an idea. She needed to provoke it so that it would try to kill her up close. If the Siren closed the distance, she could use one of her stronger attacks. "Lightning Bolt!" Garnet continued to fire them at the Siren. Garnet could see as its face angered. Despite its incredible abilities, it lacked the intelligence to use it properly.

Level Up: Lightning Bolt (Level 8)

The Siren revealed its claws. It was going to close the distance between them for an attack. Garnet released her torrent of Lightning Bolts as the Siren went in for a dive. The Siren's face had a terrifying smile. It was one of a victor that was about to kill its prey. This was Garnet's only chance. The one attack she had in her arsenal that could probably kill it. "Explosive Palm!"

Garnet met the dive of the Siren and its claws head on. SHLUCK. "AHH," screamed Garnet. BOOM. The claw tore into Garnet's palm, piercing straight through her Mana Shield. The attack had drained her mana a little, but the attack of the Siren mostly went right through her Mana Shield. Garnet's powerful Explosive Palm knocked the Siren backwards and out of the sky as it landed on the other side of the river. Garnet could see drops of blood splash outward from her arm. It was impossible for her to tell what was the cloth and what was her blood.

CRASH. Garnet could only hear the sound of something falling hard onto the ground as she looked up into the sky. She could not move her right arm.

Level Up: Explosive Palm (Level 2)

New Skill: Fire Ball (Level 1)

A much more explosive bolt of fire that deals damage to its surrounding as well as its target.

MP Cost: 100

"You did it!" shouted Charlie.

"What hap-" BOOM. Leeroy had broken free of the Siren's control, only to be met with a punch from Duke Wellington.

"I'm sorry," said Duke Wellington.

There was no level up. "For such a tough fight, the rewards were small," thought Garnet. Garnet lifted her left arm. "Blood Absorption!" However, there was nothing.  The attack that Garnet landed on it did not finish it off. There was no quest complete message either. The Siren was not dead yet. It was still alive.

"Hey!" shouted a voice.

"Are you okay?" another voice shouted. Garnet could not tell who was speaking to her as her vision was blurring. All she could see was a male figure. The pain combined with the blood loss immobilized her.

"Hey!" Those were the last words Garnet heard before she passed out.
