Book 6: Chapter 046 - City Guardians

Book 6: Chapter 046 - City Guardians

Garnet brought Nian back down to the Ark under the city. She had questions for Serena. When she entered, Serena was nowhere to be seen. "Serena?" she shouted.

"Where is Zedd?" Riley asked.

"Zedd?" Garnet called out using the pin.

"She was in the library with Serena," Zedd replied.

"Where is that?" Garnet asked.

"Door immediately to the right by the entrance," said Zedd.

Garnet entered the door. There was Serena putting back all of the books that were lying around on the floor. "What happened here?" Garnet asked. "It looked like there was a tornado."

"That happened," said Serena as she pointed at Zedd.

"You're organized aren't you?" Garnet asked.

"Usually," said Zedd. "But when I got your message, I rushed out."

"More importantly, what's that?" Serena asked as she pointed to Nian.

"I was hoping you could tell me," said Garnet as she raised her left hand. In addition to the blue petal, there was a yellow one.

"So there's two guardians now," said Serena as she put her hand to her chin. "Three more to go."

"What are the guardians?" Garnet asked.

"They're the ones responsible for protecting and managing this city," Serena answered. "Each of us is responsible for an aspect of it. I'm responsible for protecting the knowledge of the city. The other guardians except the guardian of the Vault fell in the final battle."

"What happens when the guardians are assembled?" Riley asked.

"The primary functions of the city will all be restored," said Serena. "Tha duty of the guardians is to maintain it."

The question now was where to get three more with a potential sixth hidden away somewhere. "So what can you tell me about Assad?" Garnet asked Nian.

"I don't see how he's important to this conversation," Nian replied.

"Assad was the previous Master of the city, and Serena's Master as well," said Garnet. "If you know anything, you may know where one of the secret rooms are."

"I've never been under the city before," Nian replied. "If something is here, I would not know about it."

"What was the last time you saw Assad?" Serena asked. She was curious about something.

Nian started thinking for a bit. "I think about ten years ago," it stated.

"Didn't the city fall over fifty years ago?" Zedd asked. "Assad should have disappeared with the city."

"Aye, but he returned on at least two occasions," said Nian.

Zedd and Serena were suddenly surprised by this revelation. "What did you say?" asked Serena as she shook Nian.

Nian struggled to push Serena away, but could not. "Let go of me you crazy woman!" Nian shouted.

"Not until I have answers," said Serena. "Tell me!"

"Stop shaking me first!" shouted Nian.

Serena stopped. "Now tell me before I shake you again!"

"Master Assad spoke of a threat to this city," said Nian. "He said that when the next Hero comes to rebuild the city, the Allied Forces will return to try to claim it."

"What are the Allied Forces?" Garnet asked.

"I only know it is a collection of over forty major cities located around the world," said Nian. "I don't know the members of the group."

"Do you know?" Riley asked Zedd.

Zedd shook his head. "I don't know about it," he said. "This is the first time I've heard of this term."

New Quest: Defense of Constantinople (??:??:??)

The Coalition Army will attack Constantinople, be prepared for it.

Reward: Experience, New Title, New Skill

Garnet recognized the question marks. It meant that there was a timer, but there was no fixed time yet. It was likely that it was not even beginning. "Three more guardians and an army is needed," Garnet thought. She looked at the ring that Serena had given her.

Name: Ring of Mana

Capacity: 1209/10000

It had filled a small amount, but nowhere needed to the amount to summon new guardians. It charged mana at a much lower rate than Garnet regenerated. She would also need an army. The value of an army would be far greater than the guardians. The aura given by the city would greatly improve their defenses, but they would need three qualified guardians first. However, there was something Garnet needed to do first. "Riley, there's something I want to do," said Garnet.

"What is it?" Riley asked confused.

Garnet took out a huge amount of clay and used magicraft to create a human shaped body. "It's time you had a physical body back," said Garnet. "Dismiss!"

Garnet dismissed Riley. After a few minutes, she placed her hand onto the vessel. "Call: Riley!" The vessel in front of Garnet changed shape. Slowly, it turned into Riley.

As Riley reoriented herself, she put her hand on her chest. "No heartbeat still," said Riley.

"It's not a true ressurection, but it's a start," said Garnet. "I plan to do this with the rest of the spirits and summons, this will be the closest that we will have to an army."

"Master Assad was able to build his own army," said Serena. "You should be able to as well."

Garnet opened up the Map and was able to see a City Development progress bar that measured how much of the city was classified as unusable, damaged, or intact. There was an exclamation mark next to Minion Development.

Garnet opened her Minion Development Menu and looked at it. Riley now had her own sub-section that allowed her to be customized in different ways. The same for her Cerberus and Revenants. There was something that stood out to Garnet. As she looked at the Revenants, there was a skill for them that costed fifty thousand mana to develop, Assimilation. It was far higher than anything else by a long shot, even more than the cost to further evolve her Cerberus.

Name: Assimilation

Target humanoid is devoured and the Revenant takes on the form and memories of what it devoured, but it maintains its loyalty towards the summoner no matter the circumstance. Can be used on a target alive or dead.

MP Cost: None

It was a powerful skill that could be used to build an army. With all the people raiding the city, if Garnet could capture them and feed them to the Revenants, she could have something that resembled an army, was intelligent, and loyal to her. There were of course moral issues, but the fact that they were enemies at war kind of made morality much less of a factor. "I may have a solution to our army problem," said Garnet. "The problem is that I don't have enough mana to be able to do it yet."

"How much do you need?" Serena asked.

"Fifty thousand," said Garnet. "As much to summon a new guardian."

"How much do you have?" Riley asked.

"Just over ten thousand," said Garnet.

"I can help with that," said Zedd. "It'll drain me for a while, but I can do it."

"Are you sure?" Garnet asked.

"All I ask for is a chance to study the library in the city," said Zedd. "Is that okay with you?"

Garnet looked at Serena. "I leave this up to you," said Serena.

"Make sure you put everything back," said Garnet.

"I will," said Zedd. "Hand me the ring."

Garnet removed the ring from her hand and gave it to Zedd. Zedd put on the ring on his left hand and put his right hand over it. Garnet could feel a tramendous amount of mana surge through Zedd's hand. "Mana Transfer!"

The mana was visible to the naked eye and shined brightly. The gem on the ring turned from white to blue, then red, then yellow. Zedd stopped as he kneeled over onto the ground. "It's done," said Zedd as he breathed heavily.

"Are you okay?" Garnet asked.

"Just a little tired," said Zedd. "Is there a bed?" he asked.

"This way," said Serena as she guided him through a door.

Garnet looked at the ring.

Name: Ring of Mana

Quality: Legendary

Effect: 61270/100000

Zedd had transferred over sixty thousand mana into the ring. "Incredible," said Garnet. She put the ring back on and went to check on Zedd first.

As Garnet and Riley entered the room, Zedd was already sleeping and Serena had just put him to bed. "Will he be alright?" Garnet asked.

"Yes," said Serena. "Transferring such a large amount of mana at once just exhausted him, but he should be okay after a day if he didn't use his own life to get that mana."

Zedd was not foolish enough to do something like that. He was also semi-immortal, so he was probably going to be okay after some rest. Garnet opened the Minion Development Menu and pressed the Assimilation button.

Do you wish for all Revenants to learn Assimilation?

Yes/No

Garnet pressed yes. Another system message appeared.

Insufficent mana. Do you wish to use mana from another source?

Yes/No

Garnet pressed yes again. Another system message appeared.

Select Source:

Ring of Mana

Garnet pressed the Ring of Mana and watched as the mana depleted from it, turning the gem of the ring back into blue. Her Revenants now had the Assimilation skill and she just needed to make a few to hunt down people who are searching the city. "Can you use Magicraft?" Garnet asked Riley.

"No, only your transformations and attack spells," said Riley. "I can't even use your Temptress skills."

Garnet had hoped Riley would be able to help make them, but it looked like she would not be able to. Garnet would have to make all of these Revenants on her own. "Can you at least go get the materials?" Garnet requested.

"Sure, once you give Meliae a body to help," said Riley.

Garnet had collected a lot of clay, but the problem was mana. Creating a vessel took nearly all the mana she had. It would take more to call out a spirit and even more to customize their enhance their bodies. However, it was something necessary, so she began to work on it. For now, one Revenant and Meliae were the ones that were needed.

Garnet took out the clay and used her magicraft to create a human vessel. After waiting for her mana to regenerate, she put her hand to the vessel. "Call: Meliae!"

The vessel began to take form, but it was a little different from before. Meliae used to look like an elf with brown skin, but she now had four green wings like a fairy on her back. "You look different," said Garnet.

Meliae looked at herself. "It feels different too."

"That's because you have a physical body now," Riley explained. "Come on, we're going to gather some clay near the sea to the East."

Riley left with Meliae, leaving Garnet by herself. Garnet was tempted to use the mana in her ring, but she needed it to charge up so she can call forth more guardians or at least strengthen some of the things in the city. So, she waited. After all, mana regeneration was high and if she used it more, she would regenerate even more mana.

Garnet used most of her remaining clay to create two humanoid vessels. "Call: Revenant!" The two humanoid vessels took on the form of what appeared to be a mix of undead and ghosts. Garnet had only used them once during the first Invasion. The Cerberus were superior in every aspect, but with Minion Development, it was likely that the Revenants could become superior.

The two Revenants just stood there. "Go help Nian protect the city and use Assimilate on the mages you encounter," Garnet ordered.

The two Revenants phased through the roof of the room and headed to the surface. "They really are ghosts!" Garnet thought to herself. Their abilities gave them a unique advantage as long as the city were in ruins.

Garnet followed the Revenants to the surface, just to check up on them. She saw Nian running around the city, splitting himself into twelve copies. The automata were focused on repairing the walls of the city rather than clearing the inside since they needed to make it harder for people to enter first.

Garnet took a look at the Minion Development Menu. As she scrolled down, she could see the two Revenants, her Cerberus, and even her spirits. However, Serena and Nian had their settings locked. Garnet could not even take a look at them. There was something special about them. The automata were grouped together under one setting, but she could only increase their base stats to a cap for now. In order for them to be more effective with special abilities, she needed special items to customize them, not just mana.

Name: Mana Coating

Requirements: 5 Vials of Liquid Mana Crystal

Effect: All Resistance +50%

That was what she needed, but she had no idea how to make them. "Zedd would know," Garnet thought. For now though, Zedd was incapacitated. Her mana potions were too small to make a big impact on Zedd's mana.

For now though, Garnet just needed to establish her domain and force out people who were still trying to raid the city for items. With twelve Nians running around, it would be more difficult for them to sneak around. However, that was when Garnet noticed what they were doing. They had spotters that were communicating the location and movement of Nian and the Revenants. Even if Nian could divide into twelve, the city of Constantinople was huge. They could just split up and avoid Nian.

The automata could fix this problem in the future, but they were focused on rebuilding the city. They started from where they reassembled themselves and started deconstructing the ruins. Some parts of the land were now flat, ready for something new to be built on top of it. Nothing needed to be built yet, so it remained empty. Until the armies were rebuilt, she could not actually develop the city itself.

Garnet began to issue orders. "There's a few people that are spotting Nian from a distance, we need to take care of them first," she ordered.

"Okay," Nian replied.

"Call: Nuria!" Garnet needed to call for help. The more that they had, the easier it would be to spot people and prevent them from running away. The goal was to force them together so that they were manageable or to push them out of the city.

"They're running already!" shouted Nuria.

When they spotted Garnet approaching, they too began to run in the opposite direction. They had a way of communicating with each other as well. This group was much more well coordinated than the last. They had roles divided among them and were operating in a wide formation, allowing them to cover an enormous area. "Focus on catching just one of them!" Garnet ordered.

It would be difficult to try to catch all of them since they did not know how many there were. However, it is a lot easier to catch just one since there would be more than twenty of them going after the same target if they counted Nian's abilities and Garnet's other summons. "There!" Nuria shouted as she pointed at someone in a black cloak.

The black cloaked figure dived into the ruins, avoiding the rooftops and surface area. "We lost them," said Garnet.

"Not yet!" Nian shouted as his copies began to circle around.

With the help of the Cerberus, Nian was able to close off escape routes on the ground. Garnet and Nuria were observing from the sky. Now it was just a matter of finding them. "Search starting from one corner and focus on one section at a time," Garnet ordered. "They will not be able to escape."

Nian used one of its bodies to begin to search. Two more stood outside in case the person tried to escape. "Come out wherever you are," said Nian as it began to check building by building.

Each time nothing was discovered, the grid shrank and would force the person in hiding into a smaller area. The only way they would be able to escape was if they had time-space magic or a way to hide their presence and visibility entirely without the use of mana.

Suddenly, a figure moved through the shadows. "There!" Nian shouted.

One of the Cerberus immediately grabbed the figure with its snake tail wrapping around the person. "Let me go!" she shouted.

It was a woman. She had shoulder length black hair and was clad entirely in a mixture of black cloth and leather armor from head to toe.

Name: Nyx

Level: 41

Class: Assassin

Sub-Class: Soul Eater

"Recall!" Garnet called one of her Revenants over. It was time to use its new ability. "Assimilate her," Garnet ordered her Revenant.

The Revenant moved closely to Nyx. It used its hand to grab hold of Nyx and the Cerberus let go once the Revenant had a tight grip on her. The Revenant hugged Nyx. Slowly, Nyx began to merge into the Revenant.

"NO!" Nyx screamed. "Not like this!"

As the Revenant absorbed Nyx into itself, it began to take on the shape of Nyx. It was a very disturbing sight to see. Garnet could not even imagine what it felt like. Slowly, the screams disappeared as the Revenant began to take the shape of Nyx. The body changed first with its legs shrinking in height. The legs then narrowed into female looking ones. The torso began to be shaped like a woman's. Then it moved to the arms and finally the head. The clothes of the victim then emerged from the skin. When it was done, the Revenant looked exactly like Nyx, but with red eyes. She kneeled before Garnet. "Thank you Master."

"I will need to make use of your abilities in the future," said Garnet.

"I will do whatever you ask of me," the woman replied.

"What do I call you?" Garnet asked.

"Nyx is fine," the woman responded.

"Well Nyx, I want you to help me trap at least one other person for the other Revenant," said Garnet.

"Any preferences?" Nyx asked.

Garnet thought about it for a second, but she knew what she needed. "I need a powerful mage," said Garnet.

"There is only one among the group Nyx was from," said Nyx.

"Who is it?" Garnet asked.

"A man clad in black who belongs to an order of Dark Mages," Nyx replied.

"Is it Crossen?" Garnet asked.

"No," said Nyx. "His name is Adam, and he is also a Dragonian."

"What's a Dragonian?" Garnet asked. There were other Dark Mages out there, but they were few in number. Getting another to her side by force was probably going to be important.

"It is someone who has the blood of a dragon and can actually transform into one," Nyx answered.

"So we have to fight a dragon," said Garnet.

"Most likely," said Nyx.

"What does Adam look like?" Garnet asked. This was going to be vital information if they were going to be able to spot him.

"A man with red hair wearing an orange and black cape," said Nyx.

"Go lure the man out," Garnet ordered. "We need to make sure the other Revenant takes him."

"Yes my Queen," said Nyx. "I will do everything I can to persuade them to make another attempt on the city."

Fighting a dragon was not going to be an easy task, so Garnet wanted to make sure all her spirits were ready. The only ones who were not available were Riley and Meliae. Sino, Mazu, Lilith, Romulus, Sylvia, the Cerberus, and the Death Knights were all called. They prepared to make their move at a moment's notice. They could not let a potential Dark Mage with the ability to summon as well get away.

It took a few hours before Nyx returned with the others. Garnet was able to spot that there were several figures moving. One of them returned directly to Garnet. It was Nyx. "Did it work?" Garnet asked.

"Not everyone wanted to return, but since they thought they lost no one, they agreed to try again," Nyx replied.

"So where's Adam?" Garnet asked.

"He's somewhere in the eastern part of the city," said Nyx.

"Alright, let's move quickly," said Garnet.

They spread out and began to move east. Garnet could spot that there were a few figures keeping an eye on her and moving around. But, by drawing attention to herself, they would pay less attention to the rest of her summons. The others could escape, but they needed Adam. Garnet scanned everything in her view, hoping to spot someone with red hair or a red and orange cape.

HOWL. It was the familiar howl of a Cerberus. Garnet immediately headed towards that direction, flying as fast as she could. She spotted someone on the roof of a building. A man with brown hair.

Name: George

Level: 39

Class: Archer

Sub-Class: Sniper

Stats: High Dexterity

It was not the person she was looking for. Garnet kept an eye on him as she flew by, making sure that he did not make a move against her.

In the distance, there was an orange glow followed by white smoke rising into the air. Someone was fighting with fire. Garnet immediately headed in that direction. She spotted a man with red hair.

Name: Adam

Level: 40

Class: Dark Mage

Sub-Class: Puppeteer

Stats: High Intelligence

It was the man that she was looking for. "Recall!" Garnet immediately recalled her spirits to her side. "Remember, we need him for the Revenants."

Adam quickly spotted Garnet and looked around. He suddenly realized that he was being surrounded. He pulled out a needle of some kind and injected himself with it. Red scales appeared on his face and red scaled wings appeared on his back. It was a transformation of some kind, but it was not done by a spell. Instead, it was done with an item.

"Fire Blast!" Adam did not wait to see if Garnet was actually an enemy. He started to attack. A rounded bolt of green fire flew towards Garnet.

Garnet rolled sideways, avoiding the blast. It was incredibly fast, but the light from the spell made it easy to see coming. PEW. The bolt of fire flew past Garnet. BOOM. It exploded behind her, creating a massive shockwave that shook the ground.

"Call: Greater Undead!" Adam immediately followed up with a summoning spell.

The ground began to shake. BOOM. Dirt flew in all directions as a large hand of bone emerged from the ground. BOOM. The second explosion marked the appearance of a head. The dirt and rocks began to fall as an enormous skeleton rose from the ground. It towered over the ruins of the city. "Take care of that thing!" Garnet ordered her summons.

Name: Greater Undead

Level: ???

Class: Undead

Sub-Class: None

Stats: High Vitality

Garnet herself went after Adam since she did not know how strong the Greater Undead was. It was best to leave it up to the strongest summons. She at least had an idea of Adam's strength from his level.

Adam flew towards Garnet for a direct confrontation. In his hand left hand was a sword. His robe had torn from his transformation and Garnet could see the red scales throughout his body. He was also wearing a backpack of some kind. "Why are you after me?" he asked.

"I have many reasons, but the first is to stop people like you from robbing this city," said Garnet.

"Did you forget that this city belongs to no one nation?" Adam asked. "By breaking these rules, you will make an enemy of everyone."

"Rules are only followed when it suits those in power," Garnet replied. "Anzio is already hunting me, so it makes no difference if I make a few more enemies."

"Anzio?" Adam was surprised by the mention of it. "Then there must be a bounty on your head as well." He suddenly began to channel his mana and prepare for another spell. A ball of green flames appeared in his hand.

"Fire Bolt!" Garnet did not wait for Adam to finish charging his spell. She shot several bolts at him.

Adam had to stop charging his spell in order to evade. From his movements, Garnet could tell that he was an experienced fighter when it came to combat in the air. Garnet did not want to give Adam the opportunity to continue channeling his magic, so she followed up with more spells. "Wind Blade!"

Adam did not try to dodge. Instead, he opened his mouth as green flames spewed forth from it. The blade of wind was immediately devoured by the flames and the flames spread out in an arc as it pushed towards Garnet.

Garnet countered with her own. "Jet Stream!" She fired a burst of water that dispersed the flames. The geyser of water pushed quickly towards Adam.

FWOOSH. The water had knocked him out of the air. As Adam began to fall, his wings spread wide open in order to slow his descent, giving him enough time to recover from his fall.

Garnet continued her assault of magic. "Fire Ball!" POP. The sound of small explosions filled the area as Garnet shot numerous small explosives towards Adam.

Adam zigged and zagged his way through the skies in order to close the distance between them. He was now trying to engage Garnet in close range combat knowing that Garnet probably had an advantage in terms of pure magic based combat. As the distance between them narrowed, Garnet drew her own sword and began to dive straight for Adam, using her positional advantage to pressure Adam.

Garnet swung her sword. CLANG. A loud sound resonated in the skies as the two met in combat. Garnet was not done though. In terms of strength, they were similar, but Garnet also had sword skills. "Spiral!"

Garnet's sword began to push Adam's to the side. SHING. Sparks flew from the swords as they slid against each other. Garnet's sword broke free as she spun around. BANG. Her sword smashed against Adam's, shattering it.

Adam immediately raised his hand to try to catch the sword as it came around again. DING. Garnet's sword met with Adam's red scales. "GAH!" Adam screamed as his hand was cut.

Adam had used his hand to slow down Garnet's sword, preventing a more damaging strike. He had sacrificed a little to protect his life. He quickly increased the distance between them. Garnet was not going to let him recover.

"Lightning Bolt!" Using the fastest spell she had, Garnet wanted to immobilize and bring this fight to an end. However, it had no effect on Adam. It was too weak and the scales on Adam's body protected him from the full effects of Garnet's abilities.

Adam quickly took out two more vials and injected himself with it. The red scales began to cover him entirely as he began to grow several fold in size. The wings grew. The head changed shape with horns emerging from his head. He quickly grew to the size of almost the skeleton as he fully transformed into a dragon. "I haven't had to use this technique in a long time," said Adam.

Garnet wasted no time. "You just made yourself a bigger target!" she shouted. "Lightning Fire Bolt!"

BOOM. The explosive force of the Lightning Fire Bolt was unmatched by anything so far. A single burst of the spell had immediately knocked Adam's head sideways. Like the Zmaj Garnet had encountered, it resisted the attack quite well.

ROAR. Adam in his dragon form was quickly able to recover from such an attack. His claws dug into the ground as he prepared a huge ball of green flames in his mouth. Garnet immediately flew to the side, hoping to get out of the firing arc of the breath attack.

FWOOM. Green flames scorched across the ruins of Constantinople, setting ablaze everything in sight. Even though the attack was slow and took a long time to prepare, it offered a huge amount of power in exchange for it.

Adam swung his claws, tearing into the ground and throwing rocks into the air towards Garnet. As Garnet dodged them, the rocks crashed into the buildings around them. A few of the buildings even collapsed from the damage. With Adam's transformation, most of her spells were not doing much damage and even physical attacks did little. All Garnet could do was continue to whittle him down.

"Lightning Fire Bolt!" Garnet continued her barrage of spells and fired a few more shots at Adam.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. Adam being as big as he was now, took every shot. The damage was starting to accumulate as Garnet noticed a few drops of blood beginning to flow from the neck. As much as Garnet wanted to use her strongest spell, she simply did not have the time to do it.

Adam prepared another breath attack as the fire in his mouth grew larger and larger. This time though, his feet were not dug into the ground. That meant it was a different attack. Adam turned his head as Garnet moved, keeping his aim on her.

"Lightning Fire Bolt!" Garnet fired a bolt straight at Adam's mouth.

BOOM. The explosive sound was not from Garnet's own bolt, but rather Adam's attack. Numerous small green balls of fire flew towards Garnet. BOOM. The bolt Garnet had fired exploded in mid-air as it came into contact with one of the green balls of fire. The green balls of fire began to rain down across the ruined city.

"Jet Stream!" Garnet countered with the stream of water. It pushed towards Adam's mouth, forcing him to stop his assault as the water easily put out the green fire. The problem was that the spell did nothing to Adam in terms of damage. It did not have the power to push through Adam's skin to significantly hurt him.

BOOM. The ground shook as Garnet turned in the direction of the sound. The large skeleton that Adam had summoned earlier had collapsed. However, the top half of the body continued to move around, attempting to smash the ground around it trying to kill her summons. Garnet could not help but think of how much trouble it was going to be to clean up this mess once the fight was over.

ROAR. Adam released another powerful breath of flames towards Garnet while she was distracted by the falling of the skeleton. "Jet Stream!" Garnet countered with another powerful push with water.

Level Up: Jet Stream (Level 2)

In the match up of fire magic against water magic, water magic would almost always win. The problem was that Garnet could not deal any damage to the dragon body itself. She had to gamble on the fact that it would wear off. Adam had to use injections in his body to transform, so there was a chance that once the injection wore off, he would be weakened to the point where Garnet could deal serious damage to him. In a battle of attrition, Garnet always had the advantage thanks to her mana regeneration rates.

For now, Garnet would try to immobilize Adam. It was not going to be easy because of his large body though. "Blood Bind!"

Numerous large red ribbons erupted from the ground and wrapped around the body of Adam. Adam attempted to flex his arms and legs in order to break free, but he could not. "What?!?"

Garnet was not done yet. She had follow up skills. "Shadow Bind!" On top of the red ribbons, black ones emerged from her shadow and began to wrap around Adam, further constricting him. She raised her hand and began to move her fingers closer together as if she was squeezing something in her hand. "Shadow Grip!" With this technique, Garnet had hoped to suffocate Adam, weakening him long enough for her Revenant to be able to take hold of Adam.

Adam began to shake violently, attempting to break free of the hold that Garnet had on him. "No!" he shouted.

Garnet increased the intensity of Shadow Grip. She squeezed her hand as hard as she could. Before long, she was able to close entire hand. "Shadow Crush!"

CRACK. It was the sound of something breaking. Adam suddenly collapsed and could no longer resist. Garnet flew in towards Adam. As she approached, she could see that Adam was still breathing. As powerful as Shadow Crush was, what should have been a killing blow was still not enough to kill Adam. He was barely breathing and bleeding all over. "Recall!"

The Revenant appeared before Garnet and began to assimilate Adam. The large skeleton summoned by Adam began to collapse into pieces. The bones that it was composed of dissolved into dust and evaporated into the air. Soon after, the Revenant began to take on Adam's trademark red hair. He had the same red eyes as Nyx. "When you're ready, I have a job for you," Garnet said as she looked at Adam.

"But there is a problem," said Adam.

"What is it?" Garnet asked.

"Adam was but one of several Dark Mages who are attempting to find you," said Adam.

"Several Dark mages?" Garnet thought. "What do they want with me?" she asked.

"Their goal is to either recruit you or to kill you," said Adam.

"How many are there?" Garnet asked.

"I don't know, but they are being led by four of the Council," Adam replied.

"What Council?" Garnet asked.

"The Council is a group of twelve powerful Dark Mages who have enhanced themselves using taboo methods," Adam answered. "Four of them are tasked with bringing you in."

Another problem suddenly presented itself. Constantinople had brought Garnet more enemies than she ever thought possible.

New Quest: Dark Mages (I)

Four Dark Mage Council members and an unknown number of their group are heading to Constantinople in order to search for two Dark Mages they believe are going against their objective. See to it that these Dark Mages are stopped before they draw too much attention to the Constantinople.
