[Vol. 4] [Chapter 39: Theory] {39}

The current time is 8:00 am. Ken and Makoto appear to be in the Takeru Family main house's library, studying information about Yokais and Yokai controllers' history. Makoto said

"The ancestral records of the Takeru family say that Monk Ren suddenly disappeared while carrying out his investigation of Yokai, along with all the information he might have gathered"

Makoto was silent for a moment to think, something appeared to be bothering him. Ken's expression turned astonished

"Disappear? What happened to him?”

Makoto replied

“No one knows for sure, this matter is still shrouded in mystery. Some say if he died in the course of his investigation so that no one knows of his whereabouts”

Ken's expression turned curious

“Monk Ren huh… by investigating him, we might be able to find out other clues about the secrets of the Yokais. The problem now is, how to investigate a person from a thousand years ago…”

Ken was silent in thought. Makoto replied

“Can be said, it's nearly impossible. I say this because since long ago, of course, many people have tried to investigate the origins of Yokais and the Monk's whereabouts but failed”

Ken looks even more curious, he then paused for a moment to think. Before long, Ken's attention turned back to his grandfather

"Back to the matter of Yokai, if we refer to anything we can know, so what does this mean? why did only monk Ren managed to find clues to the existence of Yokai?"

Makoto replied

“It was something from more than a thousand years ago Ken, how far can you expect? I can only say that some information and clue indicate that something happened before the appearance of the Yokais, which might be a clue to their existence, but like I said, that's all I know, the rest is still shrouded in mystery”

Ken's expression turned confused

“The rest?”

Makoto gave a nod

“Like whether there is currently a new Yokai that appears in the world"

After saying that, something appeared to be bothering Makoto. Ken was silent in thought for a moment, he then replied

“Unusual phenomenon huh… maybe it's an important clue”

Makoto said

"Alright, now let's continue our training which is far from over"

Ken gave a nod. He then read the book on the secret bookshelf in front of him. Many of these books contain information on activity logs, and other information regarding the history of Yokai, and encyclopedias. The history of the Takeru family, and the photo and information of Yokai controller of this family. There is one thing that catches Ken's attention, namely the Yokai controller of Asanuma before him, which is Makoto’s Mother

“This woman, so she is the Asanuma controller before me?”

Makoto replied

“Yes, she is my mother”

Ken's expression turned astonished

“Grandpa didn't continue her legacy as Yokai controller?”

Makoto looked surprised, but soon his expression turned flat

“Right, I only knew Asanuma, had a Yokai weapon made from his body, but yes, I wasn't his controller. At that time, the Takeru family decided to no longer be the controller or the sealer of the Yokais. The Takeru family only continued to pass down their knowledge and techniques for generations, and it continues to this day until you change it…”

Ken looked awkward, he then bowed earnestly

"I'm sorry grandpa, for breaking into the shrine without permission”

Makoto's expression turned a little surprised, he then smiled

“No need to apologize, raise your head, Ken”

Ken then raised his head again. Makoto continues talking

"I could have stopped you, but I didn't, because you as a member of the Takeru family, have the right to be a Yokai controller, and you don't have any compulsion to do that either"

Hearing this, Ken didn't appear to expect that answer and felt a little surprised. Ken then gave a nod.

The time is now 4:00 pm, Ken and Makoto have just come out of the library room they locked. Makoto said

"What do you think of our training today?"

Ken replied

"It's fun, I experienced something new like this after continuing intensive training"

Makoto smiled

“Good, this means you are ready”

Ken's expression turned curious

"Ready for what Grandpa?"

Makoto's expression turned serious

“Fighting the Yokais”

Ken looked surprised

"It's not that I didn't expect this to come, I just didn't expect it to come so soon"

Makoto smiled

"Don't worry, you're not going through this alone. You're coming with me on a mission case where Yokai is suspected involved. Think of this as your training too, because there's one thing I haven't taught you, but unfortunately, it can't be taught just like that”

Ken's expression turned curious

"What is that Grandpa?"

Makoto's expression turned serious

“The Yokai sealing technique, which is the most important thing for you as a Yokai controller. Hope you find an unsealed Yokai, to be able to learn it properly"

Ken looked surprised, his expression then slightly nervous

“But Grandpa, is it okay? It's like I'm running recklessly toward danger…”

Makoto replied

“Indeed, therefore, before we go on a mission, I will teach you the basic theory, training, and practice of the Yokai sealing technique. So, when you need it, the chances of you being able to use it will be high”

Ken's expression looked doubtful

“I, I understand Grandpa, I will try my best”

Makoto gave a nod. They then walked away from here.

The next morning, the time is now 7:00 am. Ken and Makoto appeared to be ready to start their training in the front yard of the shrine behind the Takeru family's house. Ken appears to be carrying his yokai weapon, and so does Makoto. Ken also wearing a baldric on his body like before as his katana sword holder. They stand opposite each other, five meters apart. It appears that Ken also wears a glove puppet Asanuma on his left hand. Makoto said

"Now let's start this sealing technique training"

Ken appeared a little nervous. Makoto continued talking

“When it comes to sealing a Yokai, you need to concentrate and focus, because there is a chance of failure. In order to succeed, the Yokai you want to be sealed must first be weakened, by fighting it. On a sealed Yokai, this technique will force them back into their medium”

Ken replied

"Weakened the Yokai to what extent Grandpa?"

Makoto replied

"Only until they are no longer free to move. With this, the sealing technique can shorten the battle time, very useful with the limited power of the Yokai controlled by the controller”

Ken appeared to understand more. Makoto continues talking

"Alright, let's try this sealing technique"

Hearing this, Ken looked nervous again.

Makoto concentrated, he took the stances while positioning his arms in front of his face, covering his face, and showing Makoto's sharp gaze, between his hands. Makoto then fling his right hand to the right and fling his left hand to the left, eight soul chains then burst out from Makoto's forearms, four per forearm, this chain then fell to the ground. A chain with an abstract pattern of solid carving, unlike a chain in general. Seeing this, Ken looked surprised and reminds Him of Suga Hisoka who can also do the same. Ken thought to himself

"The chain that burst out from grandfather's forearm, this is like what happened to Suga san"

Ken said

"What are these chains actually, that coming out from grandpa's forearms?"

Makoto replied

“This is called the soul chain. This chain really emerges from the power of one's soul, and you can move it at will as if it were an extension of yourself”

Makoto then moved the chain as he wished, the chain moving upwards, like a snake about to peck. Seeing this, Ken looked surprised. Makoto continued talking

"Use this chain to wrap the weakened Yokai, then cast the existing spell, then channel your soul energy by the soul chain to the Yokai, to connect with them. Then with the sealing medium, you will seal the Yokai. You can seal the Yokai into your Yokai weapon first temporarily, then transfer it to the true medium later. Please remember that if you don't weaken the Yokai enough, it will potentially break your chains that bind it"

Ken gave a nod. Makoto then pulled his soul chain back into his forearms, it appears that the gap that had formed in Makoto's forearms where the chain burst out was then closed. Ken appears to realize something

"Grandpa said if the sealing of the Yokai on the Yokai weapon is temporary, but how long is it to be precise?"

Makoto replied

“No one knows for sure, it could be a few hours, but it won't be a day. This depends on how far you weaken the Yokai in question. The weaker they are, the longer you can temporarily seal them in your Yokai weapon. Therefore, you should immediately transfer them to the appropriate medium”

Ken's expression turned slightly astonished, he then gave a nod.

Makoto took out the folded paper from his pocket and handed it to Ken. Ken opened the paper, which had spells written in a language that Ken had never seen before, written in the Japanese alphabet

“Is this the spell Grandpa meant?”

Makoto gave a nod

"Precisely, you better memorize it"

Ken looks confused

“What is the meaning of the sentences in this spell? Even though it's written in the Japanese alphabet, I still don't know what it means”

Makoto replied

“Because indeed it comes from another language but is rewritten with the Japanese alphabet so that it can be read. The language used is also never known where it comes from...”

Ken looks even more confused. Ken then looks nervous

"Alright, should I chant loudly, or quietly?"

Makoto replied

"Whatever, you can even just whisper it. The important thing is that you just have to voice it out"

Ken looked hesitated for a moment

"Then, I'll just whisper..."
