Maria left the frontline battles to the golems but noticed that they were only around level 70-80 so if enough soldiers worked together to attack them, they’d be overwhelmed at one point but it wasn’t like she’d just wait around and let that happen. Her powers were in no way restricted due to the quest so she was able to completely decimate all of the soldiers, though she had to put a restraint on her powers due to the place they were fighting.
If this was out on a battlefield then maybe she could truly let loose but, Maria had to be careful with her usage of spells and skills because she didn’t want to destroy her mentor’s home. However, despite being restricted, Maria was not struggling one bit since all of her spells and long-ranged attacks could immediately kill the soldiers that were running into the tower in a few hits.
“Haha, this is too easy!”
Maria cleared the first to fifth waves of soldiers pretty easily since they were only at levels 50-60 and there were only around 20 of them. However, she noticed that by the time she reached the fifth wave, the levels of the soldiers were around 55-65. Naturally, this alone didn’t change anything since they were just too weak and Maria could deal with all of them very easily with one or two rounds of [Angel’s Rage]. She continued to attack them and when she cleared the 10th wave, she received a message from Paimon.
[Kid, how are you holding up?]
“I’m good. Why? Are you checking up on me?”
[Yes, and I’m also here to reward you. You cleared the 10th wave of soldiers so let me give you a spell to make your task easier.]
“Oh, a reward!”
[Open your mind and let me teach it to you. Just let the golems and magic traps deal with the soldiers for now.]
“Alright.”
Maria stepped back from the frontlines and went to the back to learn the spell that Paimon was going to give her.
[This spell is called [Fire Golem], it’ll automatically integrate with your [Fire] spell so all you need to do is manipulate the spell to form the [Fire Golem].]
“Neat.”
Since the spell integrated with her [Fire] spell, it meant that not only did her spell grow more versatile in its usage but it also didn’t take up a skill slot.
*DING*
Your mentor, Paimon, has bestowed you with the spell [Fire Golem]! [Fire Golem] has integrated with your spell [Fire]! Please check the [Fire] spell’s menu for further details!

Maria’s eyes widened when she read the auxiliary spell under her [Fire] spell. This spell would synchronize well with her [Nightmare] skill’s puppetry. The [Fire Golem] was even better in some aspects since it could use skills, unlike her Shadow Puppets. The only downside was that she couldn’t use the [Fire] spell while the [Fire Golem] was summoned but it was fine since it only lasted 5 minutes and the golem itself could use [Fire] in her stead.
“Thanks, Paipai!” Maria immediately thanked her mentor after she learned the spell.
[I’ll reward you for every 10 waves you clear, but don’t overdo it. Though the rewards may be good, your life is even more precious!]
“!”
Maria’s eyes shined when she heard that she’d be rewarded in such a way so she immediately returned to the frontlines and used her [Fire Golem] spell for the first time.
“Flames of life, rise and fight for me, [Fire Golem].”
A large mass of flames appeared in front of Maria and it started condensing into a lean humanoid form. Once the form appeared, it immediately condensed into a solid form as a magma-like armor wrapped around the golem’s body.
Maria could see that the Fire Golem was in the shape of a humanoid female whose face and body were modeled after her. After the golem came into being, Maria immediately ordered it to head to the frontlines to wipe out her enemies.
“Go, kill all of them!”
“GROOOARRR!!!”
Even though it had a humanoid shape, it wasn’t capable of speech. It rushed straight towards the enemy with its [Meteor Flame Punch] skill and struck the soldier at the forefront. It immediately turned the soldier and those 5 meters around him into a pile of ashes. Maria was astonished by the amount of damage the skill dealt but this wasn’t the end of it.

The Fire Golem weaved in and out of the soldiers and burnt them all to ashes with its close combat hand-to-hand skills. Maria was quite surprised that the golem’s AI was able to replicate all of her technical combat skills but this great. It used [Fire] whenever it needed to as well as all its other skills and Maria didn’t even need to manually control it.
“Great, with the golem doing a lot of the work, I can just focus on dealing with those at the back.”
If the quest continued like this, then she’d be able to easily last those 2 hours that Paimon needed without breaking a sweat. She quickly cleared the soldiers until the 20th wave and once more received another reward. It was the [Frost Golem] spell that was an additional option for her [Blizzard] spell. If this trend continued, then Maria reckoned that she would receive the golem series additional options for her remaining spells, [Terra] and [Aero].
Just like she thought, by the time she cleared the 30th wave, Maria did receive the [Mud Golem] spell from Paimon which was an additional option for her [Terra] spell, however, she noticed a small problem regarding the strengths and numbers of the soldiers charging at her. The first wave of soldiers was around level 50-60 and each wave had only 20 soldiers but now that she was on the 31st wave, the soldiers were around level 80-90 and there were 80 of them.
The benefits of quickly clearing the waves were great but if this trend of increasing levels and numbers continued indefinitely, then Paimon’s Mage Tower defenses would be useless later down the line. Even now, the defenses of the first floor were completely useless against the higher leveled soldiers and if it wasn’t for Maria’s elemental golems destroying the soldiers, the defenses would have long since been breached.
It was fine for now but once the soldiers grew to level 150 or higher things might become a problem even for her since their numbers might even reach a few hundred or even thousands. This was a big worry but the rewards she got for every 10 wave clears was just too much to pass up on so she quickly cleared the waves until the 40th wave and finally acquired the last golem additional option, the [Breeze Golem]. By then, the soldiers’ levels were around 100-110 but this was still manageable for Maria.
[Kid, are you okay?]
She received a message from her mentor in the middle of the battle and she quickly replied, “I’m fine for now, but their levels and numbers are constantly increasing…it might become a problem for me later...”
Maria had reached the 40th wave in only half an hour so there was still a lot of time left even though she thought that at least an hour or so should’ve passed by now.
[How about you pace yourself for now? Try letting the golems and magic traps deal with the enemies while you step in only when you need to?]
“...Fine, I’ll do that then.”
She was greedy for those magic spell rewards but completing the quest took priority so Maria had to reluctantly agree to Paimon’s suggestion.
[The First Floor can handle the soldiers at level 70-80 while the Second Floor can deal with the soldiers up to level 100.]
“Really? Then I’ll stop killing so much of them and drag out the time. Also, I’ll probably need to head to the second or third floor soon. The soldiers are level 100 and above.”
[My Mage Tower has 9 floors. Don’t hesitate to use their defense mechanisms, alright?]
“But the lower floors will be destroyed at this pace…”
[It doesn’t matter. Your safety should be your priority!]
“Alright, I’ll listen to you, Paipai!”
Maria quickly abandoned the tower’s first floor after she ordered the tower’s golems and her golems to retreat. The tower’s golems would grow stronger as they got closer to the Daemon Heart so it didn’t make sense to just leave them on the first floor and let them be destroyed by the soldiers. She brought up the rear and killed all of the soldiers rushing forwards as the golems made their way up to the second floor.
Once the last of the surviving golems retreated, Maria used her [Terra] spell and conjured a large earthen wall to prevent them from following after her as she triggered all of the traps she had placed on the first floor.
*DING*
You have cleared the 41st wave, please prepare for the 42nd wave!
“I know, I know!”
That notification was so annoying but she needed to leave them on so that she could keep track of what wave she was on.
“Okay, let’s drag things out until there are 30 minutes left until the quest finishes. After that, I’ll just wipe them out and get as many of the clear rewards as I can!”
