Chapter 124 - Maria’s Ascension Quest 2

Chapter 124 - Maria’s Ascension Quest 2

Maria continued flying in one direction while killing the monsters she saw and luck would have it, she actually managed to make it out of the marshes and into the plains where she saw a city in the distance.

“Ah! Civilization!”

She quickly flew to the city and touched down in an empty plot of grass and walked to the gates where she could see people bustling in and out.

“I hope I can find a map or something,” Maria mumbled to herself as she approached the gates.

Maria should have continued paying attention to her surroundings because she didn’t see the frightened looks of the people around her.

She was also too deep in thought that she didn’t hear the people lining up to enter the city scream and run away from her while shouting, ‘Monster’, ‘evil creature’, or ‘abomination’.

By the time she became aware of things, she had been surrounded by the city’s guards.

“Ae?”

“Halt!”

Maria quickly stopped in place when she saw the guards pointing their weapons at her menacingly.

“Uhhh, what’s the meaning of thi―”

“Whatever hole you crawled out of, you evil spawn, return to it at once or we’ll kill you where you stand!”

One of the guards, who she was assuming was most likely their captain or lieutenant, quickly exclaimed.

“Get out of here, you abomination!”

“Evil witch!”

“Cursed being!”

“Monster!”

“Disgusting!”

“Kill this monster already!”

“Do your jobs and behead this freak of nature!”

Finally, Maria heard the insults and names that the spectating crowd of people was calling her.

Previously they had been running away at the sight of her but a few of the people returned once the guards surrounded her and began condemning Maria, cursing at her and calling her insults. A few of the spectators even started throwing rocks and dirt at her.

“What the hell?”

Maria could feel their animosity and hostility. She hadn’t even started her quest yet and she was already being hated.

“Hey, hey, I come here in peace. No need to be so hostile!”

“Go away, evil cur!”

“Kill her! Kill this monster!”

“Ugly freak! Kill her!”

Maria frowned at the relentless onslaught of curses and insults. This was the first time in her life that she was being subjected to this that the name-calling nearly caused her to tear up.

However, Maria remembered that she had to remain dignified now because she was a Queen.

“Hey, I’m a very patient person but if you continue calling me―”

“Evil witch!”

“She’s a demon spawn!”

“Look at those disgusting things on her back!”

“Chop them off and then chop her head off!”

One of the guards was shoved by one of the spectators and the tip of his spear poked at Maria’s back. This was the last straw and she finally snapped.

Maria spread her wings and activated [Gehenna’s Eye] at full power. Her eyes changed color and multiple flaming eyes appeared on her wings before red lasers and black feathers began firing at the people who were insulting her.

Every single one of their mouths had been pierced by a flaming hot laser or a sharp feather. Now they couldn’t talk since they were either dead or writhing painfully on the floor, Maria released a frustrated breath once the silence descended.

“Much better.”

She looked around before saying, “I’m a little moody right now so you better stop adding fuel to the fire. It won’t be a pretty sight when you see me enraged!”

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Maria noticed that the people around her were all humans and their response to her words was…

“Lock the gates and load the crossbows! Kill this demon and send it back to hell!”

She heard the words come from the top of the city walls and looked up to see the city guards start loading their defensive siege weapons and aim them straight at her.

“...So you won’t make peace with me, huh?”

“Aim!”

“...It’s your funeral.”

“FIRE!”

The crossbows on the city walls all unloaded their bolts, their sights aimed straight at Maria who was on the ground. The rain of crossbow bolts on her location kicked up the dirt and even destroyed the earth underneath her.

“Did we get that thing?”

When the dust settled, the city guards all saw Maria standing right where she was as a circle had formed around her where there were no crossbow bolts buried in the ground and the earth was upturned from their impact.

Maria glared up at the humans and clenched her fists angrily. She didn’t understand why these people were so hostile to her. It wasn’t like she had done anything wrong to them. This was their first time meeting.

Maria had very much forgotten that her alliance had been changed to non-affiliated so she was hostile with every living species that were part of the Light or Dark Faction.

Vanhal and the other planets after the second main planet were exempt because the influence of the Light and Dark Faction hadn’t extended to those planets yet. A majority of the sub-planets were the same but that influence, unfortunately, had definitely been extended here on Irchol because the humans in the city were being unconditionally hostile towards Maria.

Seeing her unharmed, the city guards began reloading the siege crossbows but Maria didn’t let them have that chance.

“Well, since you bastards aren’t being cooperative…”

Maria took out her ax and immediately used [Calamity Slash] on one of the siege crossbows.

“I’m going to kill every last one of you.”

Maria was a rather petty person. She didn’t like being insulted and she would definitely hold a grudge against someone who attacked her, both physically and verbally. She hated the quests where she would have to kill humanoid NPCs, but she didn’t care about that this time.

The human NPCs in her eyes this time were just like any other group of monsters that she needed to kill. Maria had tried conversing with them but seeing that nothing worked and they only continued insulting and attacking her, she decided to categorize them as monsters.

“Time to die!”

Maria rained hell down on the city. She was originally only going to attack the city guards on the walls, but that extended to the rest of the city when she saw the people down below start attacking her with old school firearms.

“You puny pieces of―that hurt!”

She began destroying the city and everyone in it because they kept on attacking her. It was a good thing all of her attacks immediately wiped them out so she didn’t have to hear any of their dying screams.

By the time her anger subsided, Maria had completely leveled the city by burning it down into ash and charcoal.

“Phew, disgusting monsters. Were they trying to psychologically torture me or something?”

While she was thinking, a small meteor suddenly struck the region north of her and it resulted in a somewhat large blast that destroyed everything around its impact radius.

“Oh crap, I shouldn’t waste my time thinking about those monsters. I have to complete the quest!”

Earlier when she was destroying the city, Maria wasn’t just irrationally attacking everyone in sight. She had attacked only those that attacked her and it led to a chain of attacks that eventually destroyed the city, however, she didn’t forget to look for a map and luckily enough, she found one.

*DING*

World Map Updated!

“Okay, good. Now, where to next…”

Maria looked at the map and noticed that there were a few places she could go to next. There were a few villages nearby and there was a large town on the way to some big city marked on the map.

“Alright...let’s destroy the villages and all the monsters along the way while I move to that town.”

Maria had wanted to log out and perhaps stream this session but she was worried that if she logged out now, the Apocalypse Event might suddenly speed up and destroy the planet which would then cause her to fail her ascension quest.

“I’ll just save all the footage and have David or Gabriel make it into a video later!”

She was certain that this quest was going to cause her video to rack up quite a lot of views and maybe go viral.

Maria didn’t fly for very long before she quickly found the first village on the map.

“Another gathering place for those savages...sorry, but y’all have to disappear for me.”

She gathered her mana and fired a [Dark Ray] right in the middle of the village. The [Dark Ray] caused an explosion that immediately devoured the village. When the light of the destructive magic disappeared, nothing was left of the village beside a hollowed-out crater.

“Onto the next one.”

Maria didn’t have any qualms about destroying the human NPCs on this planet. After her first encounter with them, she noted down that the Irchol inhabitants were just a bunch of disgusting and unreasonable savages.

“It’s no wonder their stupid planet is about to die. Serves these bastards right!”

“I guess it will do me well to end these disgusting savages and offer them up to Death ahead of time...but I still won’t forgive that stupid head for putting me on this dying planet in the first place!”

“Couldn’t he have picked a different planet or quest?”

“Aren’t I Death's Champion? His Chosen One?”

“How dare he treat me like this!”

Maria continued to mumble and curse silently at Death as she systematically destroyed every village and the living creature she came across using her [Dark Ray], [Gehenna’s Eye], and magic spells.

There was no completion rate bar for her to monitor her progress so Maria just mindlessly continued her quest. After she leveled the next city and acquired a larger and more complete map, Maria finally found the ‘big fish’ of her ascension quest.

“This large mega-city...something’s telling me if I destroy it, I’ll be able to complete my quest.”

This was definitely good news for her because the planet’s Category-4 Apocalyptic Event was progressing much quicker than she had expected. The sky was now raining down with meteors that were definitely broken up parts of Irchol’s moon that were slowly falling on the planet.

“I better hurry.”

Maria had finally noticed the hint behind her quest when she read the description again. All Death wanted was the Higher Life Forms of planet Irchol to be sacrificed to him ahead of time.

This didn’t mean Maria had to destroy every living being on the planet, just the Higher Life Forms that Death wanted and she had a hunch that those Higher Life Forms were definitely at the mega-city she just found on her map.
