Chapter 217 - The Invincible Guardian

Bee braced himself as he used his [Warrior’s Taunt] skill, an upgraded version of the normal [Taunt]. The Kraken immediately sent a few of its tentacles flying right at Bee which knocked him back a few times but luckily before that, he managed to quickly equip his shield just before the monster’s appendages struck him. He was pushed far away but one of Sky’s Charybdis immediately brought him back to rejoin the fight while Jin preoccupied the Kraken with a few of her spells.

Since she couldn’t fight the monster with her mace, she had to equip her staff instead. With her unique-ranked staff equipped, Jin was able to cast a few instances of [Frost Nova] and managed to freeze a few of the Kraken’s tentacles in place.

It froze for only a moment before it broke free from the freezing effects of Jin’s spell but it was enough time for Bee and Sky’s Charybdis to come back. Unlike when the battle started, Bee had grown a pair as he let loose a battle cry and charged straight at the Kraken with his ball and chain whirling above.

“Take this you overgrown squid!”

“Uhh, it’s not a squid―”

“You get my point!”

Bee had struck using his skill, [Devastating Blow], but unfortunately, the blow wasn’t devastating at all as it only bounced off almost harmlessly against the Kraken’s skin.

“Uhhh…”

“Great, you only made it even angrier!” Jin said as she began casting another spell.

“Less talking, more spell casting!” Bee replied as he tried to evade the numerous tentacles that were flying at him after he struck the monster with his weapon.

Indeed, the Kraken only got angrier at him for attacking him but now, the aggro had been firmly established onto him. Now it was finally time for Sky and Jin to do their work since they’d be free from the Kraken’s aggro for some time.

“Keep the Kraken’s aggro on you, Bee! My Charybdis will help you run away so just grab onto him or something!”

“How do you know it’s a him?!” Bee replied.

Sky just blankly stared at her friend who was being chased around by the Kraken’s tentacles before sighing and shaking her head.

“Seriously, now you ask that?” She mumbled before casting a few defensive enchantment spells on Jin and herself.

Then she enchanted her twin spears and rushed straight towards the Kraken along with her second Charybdis. She spawned a third Charybdis just in case and kept it by Jin’s side. Under the water, her Charybdis had enhanced movement speed that made them swim even faster than her. She could see that mobility was needed to fight against this monster so she made sure that her two friends had one by their side.

Evading the monster’s attacks was much better than blocking them because even Bee, their tank, couldn’t even hold his ground against the Kraken’s tentacles and was knocked far away by them. It would be even worse for Sky and Jin who weren’t the tanky type. Sky might be able to survive with her defensive enchantments, but barely at best. Jin might just die even with all the defensive enchantments Sky had cast on her.

“Sky, this thing’s HP is freaking high! I barely did anything to it after casting a few more [Frost Nova]s and [Ice Field]s!” Jin reported.

Sky could see it too. She had tried attacking the monster but even her enhanced blows couldn’t leave a mark or even deal any notable damage to the monster. The Kraken didn’t even lose 1% or half a percent of HP from their attacks so far. At this rate, they’d be exhausted long before they could take down the monster. It was the Guardian for a reason so Sky expected things to be a bit hard but not this hard.

“Dammit...is the quest impossible to finish?”

“Guys, I don’t think we’re meant to fight this thing!” Bee yelled as he pointed at the monster’s HP bar.

“Oh, you gotta be kidding me!”

A few minutes had passed by and the trio had managed to finally deplete the monster’s HP by 1% but all that effort went to waste as the monster’s battle recovery kicked in and healed it all back. At her wit’s end, Sky began racking her brain to try and think of something they could do other than run away. She looked towards the now unguarded entrance to the lost city and thought that maybe running away was the answer right now.

“Guys, I have a plan but if it doesn’t work, we’re totally gonna die.”

“Say it! It’s better than this hopeless battle!” Bee said as he scrambled to dodge the Kraken’s tentacles for the n-th time today.

He was seriously getting tired of it and if it wasn’t for Sky’s summon that helped him move around with its incredible swimming speed, he would have to make an even larger effort to dodge the Kraken’s attacks and might have taken a few blows to the face already. Getting hit once was already dreadful and it was bad enough that their small team didn’t have a healer so it was hard to tank the boss monster’s attacks head-on since he had to worry about his HP all the time.

“The only thing we can do is run away!”

“Run away? How?!”

“We can’t turn back now that we’ve come so close so we’ll run into the lost city! Since it’s a city, maybe we can try and lose the guardian there!”

“F-Fine! I’ll keep it occupied, you two head in first!” Bee replied.

Jin cast one [Frost Nova] to freeze the monster in its place for a moment before she swam together with Sky to the lost city’s entrance. The Kraken’s attention was completely on Bee so the two girls were able to stealthily make their way to the entrance of the lost city. The previous cave they were in had been completely overturned by the Kraken’s emergence so all that was left behind was a gaping hole in the ocean floor.

Sky and Jin swam into the hole and the Kraken, as if it felt like an intruder had trespassed into its territory, immediately stopped chasing after Bee as its aggro was redirected onto the two intruders. Bee immediately saw that and he quickly shouted into their party chat, “Y-You guys, I think the overgrown squid monster’s aggro shifted onto you two! He suddenly stopped chasing after me!”

“Crap, we can’t turn back now so keep swimming, Jin!”

“I know!”

Sky and Jin respectively grabbed onto the Charybdises by their side and, using their enhanced swimming speed, shot into the darkness of the hole without looking back.

The notification appeared for everyone in the party and Bee, who wasn’t even in the hole, was teleported next to his two friends without warning.

“Woah! What the heck?”

“Bee?”

“Huh?”

Before they could say anything else, the trio heard the roar of the Kraken from above but before they could react, they suddenly felt a suction force pull onto their bodies as a whirlpool suddenly formed around them.

“Wh-What’s happening?!”

“I-I can’t swim out!”

“Sky! Bee!”

The whirlpool sucked them into a portal and the three friends were teleported away from the place just as the Kraken suddenly came crashing down onto the area they were just in. It looked around its lair but couldn’t find the intruders that had been teleported away. It was still angry that it let a few ants get the better of it so it began thrashing around, destroying the area around the lost city’s entrance before it calmed down and fell asleep.

The Kraken had summoned a violent storm above the seas when it awakened but now that it had returned to its slumber the storm receded and the seas stopped churning.
