Chapter 57 new skills and upgrades

Chapter 57 new skills and upgrades

Three years after fighting the American fighter named Mark Wills, Jake stood over the corps of the tenth and final floor boss. Now all he had left to do in this dungeon was the dungeon boss. Which Jake had the feeling would be a fight to remember.

In the last three years, Jake had used some items while others he made more of such as ammunition, smoke bombs and hand grenades he even used the grade level increase token, now all he had left to do before he began the final fight was to use the skill books he received then use his points. One thing Jake wasn’t happy about was that his lost servants didn’t level as fast as they did earlier. The only one out of the four that he could get to the maximum level was Elizabeth, as he had here in combat all the time. Jake pulled out the books and the skill upgrade token he got, placing them out in front of him.

×1 agility skill book

×1 mana skill book

×1 health skill book

×1 skill upgrade token

Sadly, after identifying them, Jake couldn’t use the upgrade token on his race skill, so he waited for this moment to use it. Jake pulled up the description of the skill book again.

“Yer, it’s still the same. It just says random skill.”

Jake just sat there looking at the books for ten minutes before he shouted “just use the fucken things, it’s a free skill, how can that possibly be bad.” he grabbed the first book and activated it white light filled the room before it faded away. Jake pulled up the description of the new skill and once he did, anger filled his eyes.

“A fucken skill that requires me to be some priest, no get fucked.” Jake sighed before picking up the next book. Jake said with an irritated tone, “you better give me something I can use this time.”

This time a red light filled the room, and once it faded, Jake instantly opened the skills description.

He let out a breath. “At least it is usable. Let’s do the last one before picking which skill I should upgrade.”

This time, the light was silver.

Skill

“Well, that sucks. I already do that skill without the system’s help. That leaves me with just the fireball skill as a choice to upgrade. Or maybe there are others I can look at upgrading. It doesn’t technically have to be a fighting skill after all.”

Jake brought up the skill that he could upgrade.

One of the skills was a definite no, and the other Jake disregarded for the same reason as atomic degradation. Jake didn’t think it would work. Finally Jake made his destination and went with the new skill of Fireball. it had the most to give and it would cause the least trouble if something was to go wrong. Jake’s hope was that it would increase its damage.

Skill

Fireball (common)

Mana infused fire summoned forth to be thrown at your enemy.

Upgrade

Skill

Fireball (uncommon)

Mana infused fire summoned forth to be thrown at your enemy. Radiant heat bakes your enemy from the inside out.

“Well, I don’t know what I was thinking would happen. After all, it is a system upgrade, not a self made upgrade.”

Jake got up and gave one last look at the dead rattling boss with a smile, then holding his hand out he activated the skill Fireball. It took three seconds before the fireball formed and shot straight at the rattling, setting it ablaze, burning the rattling to dust in thirty seconds.

Jake checked his mana usage for that one shot, Mana 99.000

“It doesn’t cost that much Mana to cast. I can see a couple of paths for this skill.” Jake said with a grin.

Jake waited for his mana to go back to full, then walked through the boss’ door.

“Swamp land, its fucken swamps again. What am I supposed to fight this time a fucken muck monster or –” Jake looked out into the distance

“It is a fucken shit monster.”

Out in the swamp stood a monster made of mud from the swamp below its feet, and what was below his feet was the most revolting smell. It smelt like pure shit and it even had chunks of what might just be corn in it.

“How do I defeat a monster made out of that?”

The monster sloshed towards Jake at a slow pace and with every step it took, chunks of mud would drop off of its gigantic body.

“This thing may just be as big as Godzilla on a helicopter eating day.” Jake cursed

Jake looked on as the shit monster splattered and squelched all the way across the swamp. Just as the monster got into range, Jake fired off a fireball at the monster’s head. The fire stuck to the side of the monster’s face for a couple of seconds before petering out, leaving behind a small dry patch no bigger than thirty centimetres. The monster kept moving forward without any interruption. Jake’s next attempt was to try out atomic degradation, so without hesitation he teleported underneath the shit monster and slapped his hand down on the big toe of the monster, his hand sliding deep into the monster. Jake activated atomic degradation just as the monster’s outer surface hardened, cutting off Jake’s path of retreat. The monster continued its forward movement, lifting Jake off of the ground. He was dangling under the monster’s foot as he flew through the air before hitting the apex of the arc, heading back down towards the surface, the wind rushing past him as if he was fighting against a cyclone. Reaching out with his hand, Jake’s dagger appeared out of his storage ring. Fighting through the wind, Jake brought the dagger down on his wrist, slicing his hand clean off, blood spraying out in a beautiful rainbow as jake fell clear of the monster landing in the swamp between the monster’s legs, his face contorted with pain. Though his groaning jake saw something he didn’t think possible, it was a gigantic set of dude eggs and the lance of gods’ wrath dangling between the shit monster’s legs. As jake was watching, a sizeable chunk of muck dropped from the lance heading directly for him. The muck hit the swamp right where Jake had been a second earlier. Jake began bouncing off of the water from his hasty escape. He came to a stop only once he hit the barrier that kept the monster and himself within. The monster slowly turned its body as it now headed in his direction.

Lying in the swamp, he brought up the terminal. “I can’t believe I did it after how much I have harped on. I fucken forgot to do it myself.”

Race mud monster (elemental)

“Fuck.” Jake shouted before downing a health potion and teleporting away moments before the mud monster reached him, reaping on the other side of the sealed space. He didn’t hide simply because he needed to keep the monster’s attention for now, that is. Thinking on how to fight this monster, Jake wanted to try using the skill Fireball on the monster again, but this time jake was going to first Cook the mud monster’s legs before shooting it with his pistol. But first Jake needed to heal, so for now Jake would just kite the monster till he healed. Each time the monster would get close, Jake would hit the monster with a fireball before teleporting or dashing away.

“I can’t keep this up. It’s taxing my body too much. I’m going to end up in a pile of vomit again if I keep this up for much longer.”

Five hours later Jake’s hand reformed, squeezing his fingers into a fist, then releasing it, Jake summoned his pistol into it while the other hand was bathed in flames. Charging the monster he fired off the skill then another once the timer ran out following up with two rounds directly into the dried sections of the mud monster each round blow chunks out of the monster’s legs but to Jake’s dismay after the chunks of dried mud were blown out and new mud moved in to replace it. Jake teleported out and re-evaluated his idea.

“Well, that didn’t work. Maybe something else might work on it.”

He quickly summoned an elemental round into his pistol.

“Let’s try one of these this time.”

Summoning all four of his lost servants, Jake sent them to all four corners of the sealed space. Before he teleported under the monster again, firing off the special round at the mud monster’s lance and dude's eggs blowing a hole clean through the shaft. The monster let out a loud and guttural cry before it swung its fist at Jake’s location. Just Before it hit, Jake was gone, teleporting to safety.
