Chapter 53 froglings

Jake was trailing a group of frogs when he was stopped in his tracks.

Notification

All soul servants have died; you can no longer summon their physical form.

While contemplating what could have possibly gone wrong so quickly for them, Jake’s thoughts were once again interrupted.

Race skill modification

Race Skill

Summon blood servants to Summon lost servants (unique)

Summon your lost servants’ souls to fight by your side in a body made of arcane energy. The arcane bodies will break down within one hour of Summoning sending their souls back to the redacted. Cost 500 arcane energy per lost servant.

Jake kept looking at the skill repeatedly. Then finally he decided he would try it. He didn’t want to bring people back from the dead, but he needed information. So Jake moved to a location he scouted out earlier.

As he sat there in low swamp water Jake activated the skill four flashes of light appeared in front of him, then a rush of arcane energy left his body forming into human-like figures three distinctly male and one female none of which took a form related to their old bodies. He stared at them for a time longer than he should have before asking, “can any of you speak?”

The female that Jake believed to be Elizabeth shook her head then with a hand made a group of hand signals in the hopes of communicating. Jake understood some of them, but some didn’t match with the sign language he knew. Auslan was his preferred method of communicating, so Jake stopped her and began attempting to teach the four Auslan so they could at least communicate with each other. Jake spent an entire hour teaching them until their energy faded away. After catching himself a quick break, Jake re-summoned the four and made the sign for hello but all he got back was blank stairs. “Do you remember what happened before when I summoned you the first time?”

The four masses of arcane energy all shook their heads, confirming Jake’s suspensions. “You can’t remember a bloody thing. Can you? Not even from before you all died?” All of them shook their heads, confirming Jake’s question. Jake had one final question to ask

“Do any of you have any issues with me using you in battle, where I will most likely use you as a shield or diversion to attack?” all four confirmed that it would be fine. Jake sat there till the skill ran out of time before leaving.

“Well, it’s only me now. This takes me back, only this time it’s about building up my class skills not my profession skills although maybe I can use my profession skills in here.”

Notification

You have entered the level one cave dungeon.

The level one cave dungeon is a place where technology and weapons of any kind have been removed.

Looking back at the first notification he received when entering the dungeon, Jake had a new goal. “Brake it, break them, fuck it up.” Jake mumbled this to himself as he began a search for metal to test his new plan.

Thirty minutes had passed till Jake finally found a group of frogs, hiding in the reeds Jake spied on them as they went about their day it looked to Jake that each of the frogs are equipped with one spear with a beautiful metal tip not enough to make a firearm but enough to make shrapnel and possibly a set of throwing knife. Before launching his attack, Jake did the one thing he knew people new to the system forgot and checked his enemy’s levels. The highest levelled frog was G grade level 300, and the lowest was G grade level 10 the majority of the frogs were at the lower level.

“They’re just babies. This isn’t good. I don’t want to kill babies.”

A shadow covered the area Jake was hiding in, then an explosion of swamp water filled the sky as a large green frog came back up to the surface alone. The frog looked around in confusion when out of the corner of its eye it noticed the ones he was there to protect were all dead in an intent. Jake had saluted all of its charges and was now standing over their dead, floating corpses. Jake ran towards the frog, but just as the frog leaped to attack him, Jake teleported away. Only to teleport back behind the frog, plunging his arcane infused fist right through the frog’s head. Jake then looked over the battlefield.

“That kind of makes me feel bad.”

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Jake policed up all the metal that the frogs had then set off again for his next set of targets. After encountering five or six more groups and taking into account the last couple of floors, Jake had a solid theory about the function of the dungeon. Its purpose was not to gain levels, but to advance the skills of dungeon divers to a level where low rankers could take on monsters at higher levels than themselves. But this theory could be wrong after all the four of his companions were killed by something on this floor after all. But for Jake the only things he has found were a bunch of low-level frogs even killing as many as he did, he didn’t even give him a level in grade or class for that matter but he did receive a skill upgrade or change. Jake wasn’t too sure about it as the rarity didn’t increase, the skill just changed to match Jake more.

Jake really liked skills that he didn’t have to activate as he was constantly forgetting to do that and it looked like the system has realised this fact and started giving him a break. He has had a lot of time to think about some of the things the system has done and there have been a few times where it has given away Jake’s stats for little in return. Jake was wondering if the system had some kind of grudge against him, but for what, Jake didn’t know. But at least for now, it has decided to work with him.

“for the system to start working with me. It must have some kind of conscious thought process, maybe some kind of mind or power on a higher plane of existence. It must be higher than S grade, maybe even higher still. I wonder what is behind the mask?”

The moment Jake started to think along these lines, a warning notification appeared.

Warning: accessing rank restricted information by those not qualified will receive a reduction in their stats by 50% to all stats. This is your first warning, so just do the damn dungeon without breaking any more redacted rules.

“Well, I guess I hit a nerve or something. But at least I know there’s more to this system than what I read.”

“Okay, all powerful split personalities system, I will do this dungeon and then I might just start working on figuring out just what you are.”

Jake sat down and pulled out all the materials he collected, then began by making a pestle and mortar out of metal. To Jake’s astonishment, it worked. Jake then started grinding up anything that would turn into a powder to transmute later. The best thing Jake found to make powder was the dried flowers from the reeds. By doing this, every chance he got in between hunting down a bunch of froglings as that’s what Jake was calling them now and it seemed the system agreed with him as now they would identify as froglings when Jake looked over their information. He managed to transmute enough powder to create five hand grenades of unknown explosive potential and two smoke bombs. This, to Jake’s surprise, as he had made them many times before and received nothing, but this time it gave him five levels in his profession. Bringing him to level 405. The only difference was that this time, the hand grenades had a rarity for them.

His goal was not to try to increase the skills’ rarity, but to just to get used to using them in conjunction so that when he enters battle, they would be second nature and not an addon to himself.

As he was looking for his next target began thinking of some things he had done after coming back from the tutorial. This time he would not make the same mistake over and over again like he did after leaving the tutorial, thinking he knew everything. Not even realising that he didn’t know the first thing about the system he was treating this whole thing like it was a game and what’s worse he let his overblown ego run his life he now knows he’s not the strongest his not even a God yes he might just get there in the future but for now he is just a bit stronger than the rest of the people on earth and that’s only because he just had a bit of a head start head start on everyone else. Now that the head start has begun closing because of some factors out of his control, yer jakes ego didn’t much like that fact. So from now on he would work diligently on himself by reducing his ranking in the mercenary group so that he would have to do all the same jobs as the rest of the mercenaries. At last he would reduce his rank on paper, as he couldn’t change the fact he created the group after all. By doing this, Jake will have earned his position and not just received it based on the system.

So one of his ports of call will be to see Kiki about setting this up for him. Jake let out a sigh as he looked at what was in front of him. He looked at the door and turned in the other direction, not looking back as he walked away.
