Chapter 49 dungeon diving

Chapter 49 dungeon diving

Jake and the four vampiric converted spent around two more days walking around the first floor. Even with all the points Jake dumped into perception, he still couldn’t find the boss or any snake that could have harmed Eric. At the moment Jake was thinking about how they were going to find a way out, a set of large doors appeared in front of them. Jake pushed out his perception, trying to penetrate the door. But all he got in return was a strange filling that the door didn’t physically exist. Harald and Franky moved to look at the door from the side while Elizabeth and Albert studied the front.

“It has some kind of text that the system can’t translate.” Albert said

“They look similar to the red runes that you have on your body,” Elizabeth remarked.

Jake looked down at his body for the first time since the perception incident. “Um, okay. So I can’t read that.” Jake thought before looking at the runes on the door. “Those I can read.” Jake said.

“Well, what does it say?” Harald said from the other side of the door.

“Enter at your own peril.” Jake said

Jake walked around to the other side of the door and looked at the runes, then started to laugh. The group of vampiric converted just started at Jake.

“Okay, this is funny. It simply says exit.”

“Let’s just go to the boss’ room already. This floor is absolutely stupid.” Elizabeth said.

“There’s no logic to any of this. The door to the exit is the same as the one to go to the boss’ room and what’s worse, the door just appeared out of nowhere and for no reason.” Franky grumbled.

Jake, on the other hand, came up with one link that was he was thinking about how to leave when the door appeared but what was bugging him about it right now was the fact he was the only one that could read the runes on the door. He would have to ask Eric about it once they get back.

“At least we know how your people got killed.” Harald said.

“How’s that?” Elizabeth asked

“Well, they must have entered and this stupid door was already in front of them, so they entered, thinking it was the entrance to the dungeon or something.”

The group stood in front of the gate.

“What’s the plan?” Jake asked the group.

“Well, I think us four should work together and try to pin the boss down. While you use your skills to attack it when it’s off guard.” Franky said.

“Just make sure no one gets bit and let’s try to bring this thing down fast.” Jake said before reaching for the gothic door ring and pulling them open. The doors seemed to groan with disapproval. The moment the doors opened wide enough, the group dashed in behind Jake. They entered a dome with dense forest around the circumference and a pond in the centre. The space within the dome was at least six hundred metres high and three kilometres wide. The roof appeared to be made of crystal, and someone had painted murals of snakes on the walls.

Jake quickly vanished, using his new skill Demon dance to slip into shadows on after the other as he pushed out his perception of locating his target. Then once he got into range, the skill eyes of the lost activated on the snake. The snake froze in place as it felt the eyes of death dig into its soul, wanting to rip it out.

Weak points a crystal at the base of the head. Strike it with as much power as you can so that it breaks the snake. It holds 70% of its power in that location.

The group of four quickly entered combat with the ten metre long snake. The snake King had a simple attack pattern first it would strike at the closest opponent then its rattling tail would block the others from assisting the comrade only after watching it fight did Jake realise it was just playing with them, it had used no skills nor did it use mana it just used simple attacks. It also didn’t seem that Jake was the only one that noticed this, as the looks on his fellow dungeon divers faces were that of pure outrage.

“Just fucken fight us already.” Franky yelled, followed by insults from the rest of the team.

Jake watched from the shadows as this went on. After a minute, Jake saw the opening he was waiting for and dashed toward the snake, his fists glowing with arcane energy. He throw his punch just as the snake shifted, grazing it. His second fist was on target when it was about to hit the crystal. The space in front of him warped, taking the snake ten metres away. Striking at Jake the snake king used the same attack pattern as before, so Jake simply teleported to the location the sake tail would be and struck it head on with his full charged fist, the snake recoiled as the tip of its tail separated from its main body. The snake quickly teleported directly behind Jake, flashing forwards, its fangs dripping with purple liquid. As it lunged down, Jake smiled and teleported away micro seconds before the fangs hit him. The snake curled around, forgetting that Jake wasn’t its only enemy Elizabeth and Franky hit the snake I its injured tail. There cursed energy flowing into the snake king, slowly rotting its body from the inside out. The smell of rotting flesh permeated the battlefield. The snake hissed in anger, then a crackling voice echoed out of the snake’s mouth.

“How dear you pests harm me, the King. Now die.”

The snake king launched a new attack venom spewing out of its mouth and covering the two vampiric converted, instantly sending them to sleep.

“Now is your last chance to run little rats.” the snake king arched its body up in the air as it began building up mana in its mouth.

The remaining two vampiric converted looked at each other and attacked with everything they had at the same time. Jake teleported directly behind the snake, his fist an explosion as it ripped into the crystal, holding most of the snake king’s power. Shards of tiny crystals cascaded down the snake’s arched body as its attack was in the process of forming it backfired blowing the snake’s lower jaw off at the same time the two vampiric converted landed their attacks sending a large amount of cursed energy into the snake rapidly advancing its demise.

As the snake King fell to the ground it struck out with the last of its energy bringing its upper jaw down on the two vampiric converted piercing each of them through the neck and into their hearts Harald and Albert’s body’s went limp as they both crumpled to the ground there breathing laboured Jake rushed over to the two and used Demonic hand on the two. Slowly healing their wounds as he was doing this, he received a bitter sweet notification

Notification

Jake pulled out two health potions and gave them to Albert and Harald, then went over to the other two while he waited for the potion cooldown to end and gave them an anti venom potion each then returned to continue healing Albert and Harald’s soul damage. It was odd to Jake, but the soul damage that he was healing came from before the two ever stepped foot into the dungeon. Fifteen minutes passed before Jake could give the two of them anti venom potions. A minute after that, Jake had finished healing the two and looked over at the other two, who were still laying on the ground. They had regained consciousness but hadn’t moved, so Jake went over to see what the problem was.

Walking up to the two, he knelt down beside them. Reaching out his hand over Elizabeth’s heart, he touched her as he began healing her damaged soul. After some time, Jake removed his hand and looked up to check if Elizabeth could now move. As he did, he noticed her face was very red for a vampiric creature. Jake thought nothing more of it as he turned to help the last member of the group.

Harald and Albert were the first to say anything. As Elizabeth wouldn’t speak to Jake for some reason, Jake couldn’t put his finger on it at all.

“Jake, did you do something to us while we were unconscious?” Albert asked

“Other than healing your injuries and soul damage. No.”

“Soul damage.?”

“Yes, you all had soul damage. The soul, by the way, is close to the heart. Or at least in all of you, that is. Why do you ask?”

“It’s just that my race has evolved to a true vampire. I am no longer a vampiric converted. I also received 10 grade levels for the evolution.”

Jake shrugged and throw each of them a ring, then he split the items and potions, then handed them over to the four vampires.

“These belong to you all.” Jake then looked over his stats, but to his disappointment, he didn’t gain a grade level. He only got 4 class levels, and the notification said his contribution to the fight was not equivalent to the amount of effort the four remaining members of his team put in. Jake grumbled when he read the message, but couldn’t fault its logic. Out of the five of them, Jake was the only one that didn’t really get hurt in that fight.

“Maybe the next boss.” Jake said before standing up to look at the new door.

“What does it say?” Franky asked.

“Level 2.” After saying that, Jake went over to the rotting corpse and, with an arcane infused punch severed the head from its rotting body and stored it in the ring.

“So, how long do you all need before we tackle the next floor?” Jake asked the group.

“We’re good to go, we’ve all recovered the stats we lost and the cooldown timer is about to end,” Elizabeth replied as she finally got past whatever was holding her back before.

Jake and his group of fellow dungeon divers moved over to the door when Harald asked the group, “what do you think the next floor will be?”

“I don’t know, but I hope it’s not something we can’t fight that would suck.” Albert replied as the group stepped through the door with the new boot on.

Notification

You have entered the second floor. This floor is home to the undead and their leader, the undead servant.

“The fuck, you just had to jinx us, didn’t you Albert.” Jake was confused and asked

“What’s wrong? Can you not fight undead?”

“Yes, and now our class skills won’t work on them, but we can at least use these to cut them up.” Harald replied.

The group moved out slowly into a landscape that looked much the same as London in the 1700s. There were buildings running on each side of dirt and cobbled streets, with a large brown-coloured river running through the centre of the city.
