Chapter 40 new way of the arcane smith

Chapter 40 new way of the arcane smith

Jake was reading some books on advanced smithing techniques when a man entered the room. “You must be Mike.”

“Yes sir. My brother said you requested assistance with something.” The man said, standing at attention the whole time. “Please take a seat and relax. I just wanted someone to do odd jobs while I’m here. I really didn’t expect someone of your calibre.” Jake identify the man

“So I’m guessing you joined as a noncombatant and are more adept at the political arena than Estella is.”

“Yes sir. My brother has all the ability when it comes to fighting, but I’ve got him beat in politics.”

“That good do you work with Erica much?”

“No sir, I have never had the pleasure of working with lady Blake.”

“That’s a pity. Any way what do you know about Smith or alchemy?”

“Nothing of value. But if you wish for me to find out some information, I can get to work on that right away, sir.”

“Man, you are good. Okay, I’m looking for information that will let me reduce the mana and arcane energy needed to make items in my cauldron.”

“Sir, are you an arcane smith?”

“Yes, I am. Is that a problem?”

“No problem, it’s just the only other arcane smith that I know is lady La flame.”

“That should be correct. She should be the only other arcane smith in the universe.”

“Then how come you haven’t asked her for help?”

“My path is not the same as Aaliyah’s and I must find my own way forward.”

“That’s probably for the best. If you follow someone else’s path, it will take you longer to get to the pinnacle. I’ll get to work now, sir.” Mike said

Jake set the Mike off to look through all the books and any information he could gather from the profession users on the planet. As jake was thinking of what to do next, he and everyone else from earth

Title

Staunch defenders

Receive a stat multiplier of 10 times multiplier to health mana, arcane and stamina, plus 10 points to grade levels

With the base 10 multiplier that he already has and this belief everyone else had because he didn’t have any titles that said otherwise, that would give Jake a new base of 20 meaning for every one point spent it would equal twenty points in its given stat for example right now Jake had 539,608 stat points available to spend and if he spent them on integrity, he would get a total of 10,792,160 added to his health pool. And if he added it to his mana that would turn him into a great battery as that was what Jake come to the understanding that technology was the way to go so he had decided that he would turn himself into a big ass battery that could run for years with no need to be recharged. So doing that, Jake really needed that title.

“It might even solve the issue I’m having with all was draining the arcane energy out of an area if I can make my stats high enough. But I won’t be able to test that out till I get much stronger. Hell, after talking to Mike, I found out that people don’t even get to use arcane energy in actual skills until they reach D grade. But at least he gave me a good rundown of the system rules that were pieced together by his people.”

Jake also got some good information on impulse engines and how the FTL system worked.

Impulse engines

* Impulse engines use mana as the ignition source.

* The fuel source in most impulse engines is antimatter

* The fuel is collected by scoop filters that are built into the engine and stored within the engine’s fuel storage.

FTL

* The FTL engine uses mana to create a stable hole into subspace

* Subspace is a space filled with neutral arcane energy

* When the vessel returns to normal space, a wash of neutral arcane energy is forced out of the hole in space.

* To move in Subspace requires impulse propulsion. the speed of travel is limited to the speed of the impulse engines.

This vital information was what Jake needed to rebuild the engines for his shuttle and the fighters he had planned. Learning this information, Jake pulled out one blueprint of the smallest impulse engines. As Jake looked over the design, he noticed it was broken down into parts that could be made separately. Jake realised one thing all those books in the library were old and some of the information may actually be wrong or limited to only information that could improve the basic ability of an arcane smith so the information might actually be of limited use for the smith’s and alchemist that Jake brought here. As Jake thought about this, one of the smiths came over to Jake.

“thank you for allowing us this opportunity. The information here is so far above what we put together on earth, this will advance earth’s knowledge on smithing techniques by decades.”

Jake was stunned. He had just discovered that the information had limitations, but to the people from Earth, it held a wealth of valuable information.

“That’s okay, don’t mention it.”

Jake looked over the blueprints for some time before Mike got back to give Jake an update on his assignment from what Mike said Jake needed to reduce the amount of arcane energy he used and instead he needed to work on the quality this should also have the added benefit of having a higher chance to increase the rarity of the item. At least that’s what the smith that Mike asked said. Before Mike left to ask the alchemist some questions, Jake stopped him and asked if it would be possible for a supply of the materials required for making an impulse engine or two. Jake really wanted more supplies, but he didn’t want to take away from the construction materials. After an hour had passed, a person walked over to jake and handed him a ring before bowing and asking if he could copy his blueprints now. Jake nodded and handed over the blueprints before going back to the ring and moving the items in to his own storage ring to Jake’s astonishment the amount of resources I the ring was at least enough to make two small fighters Jake came up with an idea he would attempt to make a small runabout it would be a simple cockpit with engines attached and instead of a door to get in he would make the top of the cockpit lift. It would be a wonderful goal for him while he’s here.

Jake Was sitting in front of his cauldron. He started by doing some small experiments by reducing the amount of arcane energy he used in his hammer skill, but the moment he refused the arcane energy, the skill would fail destroying the materials in the cauldron. Jake kept trying to modify the amount of energy for half the day. Before yelling, “why won’t you work? It’s not like I’m asking for a lot. Wait, I’m an idiot. I should have started with refining my control over the energy before reducing the amount.”

Jake spent the rest of the day slowly tightening up his control over his skill. Then he spent two more days slowly reducing the energy required to use the skill when, on the fourth day, the system took over and completed the skill for him.

“Yes, it worked, and I got five levels for it, too.”

Having rested for what felt like a minute, Jake sat back up at his cauldron and began working on the second arcane skill. Arcane flame. This one stumped him, as he didn’t even know where to start. Jake just stood there staring at his cauldron in disgust at how this item has taken away his freedom of movement for so long.

Five more days had passed when Mike returned as jake was staring at his cauldron with utter hatred in his eyes.

“Sir, are you okay?” Jake looked up at the man, his eyes bloodshot, as if he hadn’t slept for years.

what was once white is now red, Mike thought

“Sir, I have spoken to the alchemist and with a lot of diplomacy on my part. It appears that smithing and alchemy are closely connected. They said the same thing as the smith’s, reducing the amount of mana you need to refine your use of mana.”

Jake was only half listening as Mike rambled on about how alchemists were the worst type of people.

“That’s it. Why didn’t I think of that earlier?”

“Yer, those alchemists really do like to keep their secrets. The stuff I had to give them in return for that information.” Mike kept ranting about alchemists. Jake put away his cauldron and started to form a barrier out of mana. Then just before it would form, Jake would try to change its shape only for it to collapse in on itself and peter out, then Jake would try it again and again. Mike sat and watched as Jake repeated the same actions again and again, not changing a thing till one day had passed. Jake was still standing in the same spot. The only thing that was moving was the mana barrier. When finally the barrier reacted and changed forms, then once it changed, it collapsed. Mike couldn’t hold back his joy and finally spoke. “Good job sir, you got it to change forms. That’s a skill only alchemists can do.”

“It’s not done yet. This is just the start.”

Time passed by as jake worked tirelessly on this one skill from one day to five then from five days to ten till finally Jake stopped on the twentieth day. A notification displaying in front of him.

Jake pulled out a chunk of steel and throw it in the air, catching it inside the barrier then using his not yet upgraded skill Arcane flame heated the steel till it was glowing hotel then the sun and finally without missing a beat forged the steel into its final form the steel changing before their eyes when finally it took it final form that of a dagger the engraving on the blade of the dagger was that of a dragon and in its claw was a broken set of shackles and on the handle was an engraving that said for a friend that helped when it was needed the most. Jake reached his hand out and plucked the item from the barrier.

“This is a gift for you.” Jake handed the dagger over to Mike without any hesitation.

“I can’t take this. It would be better if you kept it.”

“It would hurt me more if you refused. It was made for you, so if you don’t take it, I will just have to destroy it.”

“Thank you.” Mike said as he bowed his head and took the dagger from Jake’s hand, placing it on his belt before he asked if Jake had another task for him to do.
