Chapter 48 entering the depths

Chapter 48 entering the depths

The group stood at the entrance to the dungeon, Jake in the front with Elizabeth directly behind him followed by Albert with Franky and Harald on each side. The group was in the shape of a diamond, with the weakest in the middle. Jake had warned them that if a battle breaks out, he will be fighting the way he knows best, so this diamond formation would be of limited use to the group.

The group walked into the cave, their bodies transported into a separate peace of reality where the rules of the system were much different. All of Jake’s weapons had been taken and any equipment he had removed replacing his gear with a set of grey rags as replacement for his clothing. A notification popped up in front of them.

Notification

You have entered the level one cave dungeon.

The level one cave dungeon is a place where technology and weapons of any kind have been removed.

Objectives:

* Explore the dungeon

* Defeat all floor bosses

* Survive the final boss, the King of the cave.

Bonus Objectives: unknown

Jake looked around, shaking his head as he pushed out his perception. "They said just at the entrance, well, my perception tells me that this floor has no fucken entrance. So how the fuck did they get out then?”

Jake looked to the left and smiled, “I’ll be right back.” Jake flashed out of the group’s sight and into the shadows cast down by the gumtrees canopies. Jake teleported from underneath one fern to another as he navigated the mountainous terrain. “This terrain is so much like home.” Jake exited a second later, standing over the top of a chest.

Identify

Item loot chest (common)

Jake opened it, his curiosity getting the better of him. Blinding light came out of the top seconds later. Jake could see what was inside

Item braces of light (common)

Emits a burst of pure light when activated can be used to stun your enemies. Most effective on the undead.

Equipping the braces, Jake returned to the group. Exiting from Elizabeth’s shadow.

“What was it? Was it an enemy?” Asked Harald In a tense voice.

“No, just a loot chest. It had a set of braces in it.”

The group all instantly identified the item. They all shook their heads and said in unison. “You can have those,” with a slightly apprehensive tone. Picking up on this, Jake asked, “what’s wrong with them?”

Elizabeth spoke first. “There is nothing wrong with your items. It’s just they were specifically designed to kill us. The true light would burn us to ash depending on our level, that is.”

“Oh, no wonder none of you want them. It would be like holding onto a ticking time bomb.”

“That’s an adept way of putting it.” Harald said.

The group moved deeper into the dungeon landscape. Jake felt extremely bored as the group moved deeper into the dungeon landscape. In the past two hours, the only things he had seen were two small snakes, no bigger than a pre-system brown snake. Jake couldn’t even bring himself to kill them, as it felt as if he would be killing babies in their crib. The only other thing the group found was a small chest. It wasn’t even at the common rank and what’s worse was when Franky opened it up, there lay an item so damaged it no longer resembled its description. Jake looked over at Franky and what he was holding in his hand.

Item

Staff of control (unranked)

This staff can be used as a medium to influence the actions of small creatures. Item damaged to the point that it will require complete reforging from a smith capable of fixing ritual arrays. In its current condition, it will only be able to influence small creatures for five seconds.

It has potential. If only I could make array’s then maybe I could fix it. Jake thought.

The group walked for a further three hours before Jake made a decision that he didn’t want to. He asked everyone to stop as he sat down and opened up his interface and, with much hesitation, put all of his stat points into perception, leaving him with zero points left for emergencies.

Jake felt like ripping out his eyes As a rush of information flooded into Jake’s head evet the slight breeze through the gumtrees set Jake’s mind into a spasm he tried closing his eyes but to his distress closing his eyes didn’t have any noticeable impact on the flow of information flooding his mind.

“I need to stop this,” Jake groaned before his mind gave out and everything went black.

“What do you think he did? Do you think he’s dead?” Albert asked the group.

“No, he’s not dead. Look at his chest, he’s still breathing.”

Jake’s body illuminated red with demonic runes, followed by an ear-piercing screech that only got louder as time passed. The screech didn’t stop for what felt like hours, forcing the group of vampiric converted to their knees as they covered their ears.

Some time later, Jake’s eyes opened, and they were as black as a moonless night. There was no difference between the iris, pupil or sclera it was all black.

I fucken new it perception has got to be the worst stat sure I some fucken how merged a shit load of skills but fuck why wasn’t I warned about the grade cap bullshit?” Jake sat there looking at the four unconscious vampiric converted lying all around him, blood covering most of their bodies. “Looks like they had some fun. I wonder what happened to them. I hope it wasn’t a snake that would be a sucky way to go.”

After ten hours, the first of the four woke up, followed shortly after by the rest. A minute later, all four of them asked at the same time.

“Are you by any chance the demon of the past?”

“Yes.” Jake replied in a curious tone

The four vampiric converted looked at each other, then nodded their heads. Seconds later, Jake felt his stats dropping like a stone. Followed with a notification

“I knew that perception is the fucken worst.” Jake grumbled, then he looked over at the four vampiric converted as he still held his head in pain. “So what was that all about? Didn’t even give me an opinion to refuse or what.”

“Sorry, we saw an opportunity and took it. We didn’t even really look over what we were doing, we just sore what we could get and made the decision that it would be worth it in the long run. Again, we are sorry.”

What could Jake really say if he had an opinion that looked so good, then he would probably do the same.

“Okay, I’m fine with it. I guess I also get some good things out of it after all. But you four better work hard and advance grades so I can reap some of my benefits. Next time you transfer grade levels to me, do it when it is best for you, okay?”
