Chapter 9: Witchy Reading

It was noon. Slimantha sat in a wooden chair of exquisite build. The table she sat at was just as exquisite as the chair. Mimi the Mimic sat at Slimantha’s right, a glass of cola in front of the golden woman. A petite cat woman who wore a black witch hat sat across from Slimantha, a glass of chocolate milkshake in front of the cat woman. The final chair, the chair at Slimantha’s left, was empty but had a crystal ball sitting in front of it.

The cat woman picked up her milkshake, the cream skin of her fingers gently pressing against the glass. She brought the cool treat toward her lips. The milkshake’s white straw slipped between her lips, and she gave it a little suck. The milkshake flowed into her mouth. She swallowed. Her brown eyes glanced at Slimantha, catching Slimantha’s. She smiled and set her milkshake down. Her black tail swished. She had black ears too, but her witch hat concealed them. Her name was Black, Black the Witch.

Black glanced to the side, glanced out the fancy window set into the wooden wall. A beautiful bird bath showed through the window, water spurting up from the bird bath’s center. A few birds splashed about within the bath. Black gave another smile and then returned her attention to her milkshake. The cream-skinned cat woman picked her chocolate milkshake back up and took another sip. She had short black hair and wore a cute pink shirt with short sleeves. A black mid-skirt clad her lower half, and a pair of black shoes clad her feet. She took yet another sip of milkshake and then set her milkshake back down. She stretched her arms, a smile on her face.

Slimantha smiled at Black and then turned her attention to the plate sitting in front of her. The plate held a delicious-looking cheese sandwich. She licked her lips and picked up the sandwich. It neared her lips. She took a bite, luxurious flavor tickling her taste buds. She chewed in bliss for a moment. She then swallowed and set her sandwich back down upon her plate. She grabbed her glass of honey-sweetened tea from beside her plate and took a drink.

“Here is that chocolate fountain cake you ordered, Mimi,” Bill said as he walked up. The flame spirit set a plate in front of the golden woman. The plate held a fancy cake that had chocolate syrup spurting up from it. The little chocolate droplets soaked into the cake upon falling on it. Bill looked at the three women. “Enjoy your meals.” He then walked away.

Mimi glanced at Bill as he left. Then her golden eyes went to the fancy cake sitting in front of her. A bit of drool leaked out of her mouth. She blinked and then swiftly wiped the drool away. Her eyes went to the other two women. “Pretend you did not see that,” she said. Her attention returned to the cake and its fountain of chocolate. She smiled and picked up her spoon. She spooned a spoonful of chocolate fountain cake into her mouth. Her eyes closed, and she swooned.

Slimantha giggled, glancing at Mimi, who was enjoying her food a little too much. The slime summoner brought her cheese sandwich back to her lips and took another bite. She chewed, her brown eyes going to the window. The bird bath held only one bird now, and that bird stared right at her. Why was it just staring at her? She blinked, and it flew off.

“You know,” Mimi said, the mimic’s eyes on the sandwich in Slimantha’s hands, “you could be a tad more daring with your lunch.” She leaned closer to Slimantha. “It’s my treat. Why don’t we call Bill back? You can get something a little fancier than a sandwich.” She smiled.

Slimantha blinked. Her brown eyes went from Mimi, to her sandwich, and then back to Mimi. “But cheese sandwiches are so good.”

Mimi puffed her cheeks out haughtily. She turned to her chocolate fountain cake, got a spoonful of the cake, and then turned back to Slimantha. “Say ah.” Her gaze bore into Slimantha.

“Say ah?” Slimantha blinked, lowering her sandwich. “What do you mean say ah-” A spoonful of chocolate fountain cake was suddenly shoved between her lips by a very insistent Mimi. A rich chocolate flavor flooded into her mouth. She chewed.

“It’s good, right?” Mimi said. The golden woman smiled, her eyes on Slimantha. “Want another bite?”

Slimantha swallowed. “It is good, but I prefer cheese sandwich.” She brought her sandwich back up to her lips and took a bite of the cheesy goodness. She swallowed and then smiled at Mimi.

Mimi blinked. “How can you prefer cheese sandwich to this?” She gestured to her chocolate fountain cake. “Sometimes, I just don’t get you.” She hung her head before straightening back up. She turned back to her chocolate fountain cake and spooned a spoonful into her own mouth this time. She swooned again.

Black set her chocolate milkshake down. Her tail swished. Her brown eyes went to Mimi. “I’m just over here trying to enjoy my milkshake, and Mimi’s over there making out with a cake.”

Mimi set her spoon down and furiously turned to Black. “I am not making out with a cake!” she said. “Is it really so wrong to enjoy your food?!”

Black snickered. She brought her right hand to her lips. Her witch hat slipped off, revealing her black cat ears. She stopped snickering. “And there goes my hat.” Her ears twitched. She picked her hat up and put it back on. She picked her milkshake back up and took another drink.

Mimi sighed and then turned to Slimantha. “Slimantha, you mentioned that hero lost his magic sword, right?”

“That’s right,” Slimantha said. “What does that have to do with you making out with a cake though?” Her brown eyes were on Mimi.

Mimi twitched, a drop of sweat rolling down her right cheek. “Can we drop the whole cake thing? I already said I wasn’t making out with it.” Her gaze went to Black. “Anyway, I thought Black could help with finding the missing magic sword.”

Black looked at Mimi. “I see,” she said. “That explains why you asked me to bring my crystal ball.” She glanced at the referenced crystal ball. “I’ll see what I can do.” She switched chairs, taking a seat in the chair with the crystal ball positioned in front of it. Her brown eyes went to Slimantha. “What can you tell me about the sword?” Her black tail swished.

“The sword?” Slimantha’s right hand went to her chin. “Well, he used it against a bear, but it wasn’t very effective.” She pursed her lips as she thought. “He said a goddess blessed him with it. A bird pilfered it after the bear thing though.”

“Bear … Goddess … Bird … I will see what I can do,” Black said. She raised her hands and leaned over her crystal ball. She waved her hands, peering into the mystical object. “Hm …” She leaned a little closer to the crystal ball. “I see birds, lots and lots of birds.” She waved her hands some more, and her tail swished. “What’s this? A woman? She has the wings of a bird. Her wings are black in color. Is she a bird woman?” She narrowed her eyes. Her tail swished again. “Are they preparing for war? That’s odd.”

“I knew it!” Slimantha said, slamming her fists on the table. “They are preparing for war. That woman must be their leader.”

“Maybe.” Black pulled back from the crystal ball and shrugged. She then pulled out two things, a map and a pencil. Using the pencil, she marked a location on the map. “That magic sword may be here.” She pointed at the location she marked on the map.

“I see.” Slimantha leaned closer to the map. Her gaze then went to Black. “Thanks, Black.” She smiled, and Black smiled back. Slimantha’s attention then returned to the map. Maybe she should send a slime to scout that area.
