Chapter 54: The Raggedy Mimic and the Doll

“Really?” A petite cat woman with short black hair leaned on the counter’s wooden top. Her fingers were laced, and her chin was propped up upon said fingers. “You sure she’s not just out?” The cream-skinned cat woman’s black feline tail swished behind her. A black witch hat showed atop her head, and a pink short-sleeved shirt about her torso. A black mini-skirt adorned her lower half, and a pair of black shoes adorned her feet. Her brown eyes were on the other woman standing behind the counter.

“Yes, I am quite sure,” the petite woman behind the counter said, her lovely red eyes on the witch across from her. The red-eyed woman sported long locks of beautiful black hair—hair the seemed to be almost unnatural in its beauty. Her porcelain skin possessed a peculiar flawlessness to it that drew attention. Actually, everything about her oozed a kind of peculiar flawlessness to the point that it felt off.

“Should I do a reading then?” The witch straightened up. Her tail gave another swish. “Maybe I could locate her.”

The red-eyed woman brought her right hand to her chin. “I suppose that could help.” She lowered her hand and smiled a perfect smile. A black lacy dress showed upon the strangely perfect woman, and a pair of black shoes clad her feet. The sound of an opening door drew her attention away from the witch and to the lobby’s entrance. “Welcome to Tabitha’s Apartments!”

“Hi, Tabitha!” Slimantha said. “Hi, Black!” The slime summoner walked across the wooden floor, heading for the counter. Her black shoes lightly tapped upon the wooden floor beneath her. Samuel and Mitsy walked along with her. Samuel, for his part, was still topless, and Mitsy still wore his shirt.

“Hey, guys,” Black the Witch said as Slimantha and her group reached the counter. “What’s up? You guys hear about Mimi?” Her black feline tail swayed behind her. Then her brown eyes went to Samuel—went to the topless Samuel—and her tail stiffened. Her cheeks flushed. Her tail twitched. Her eyes turned to Slimantha. “Why is he shirtless?”

“Shirtless?” Slimantha blinked and then turned to Samuel. She leaned closer to him and pouted before turning back to Black. She placed her right hand behind her head and gave a bit of a laugh. “Actually, I forgot about that shirtless thing. Anyway”—she gestured at Mitsy—“she has his shirt now.”

Now Black blinked. Then she glanced at Mitsy. Her brown eyes then returned to Slimantha. “I can see that,” she said. “Why, though, does she have his shirt?”

“Wardrobe malfunction,” Slimantha said simply.

“Wardrobe malfunction?” Blacks tail gave another twitch. “Care to elaborate on that?”

“I”—Slimantha sweatdropped—“kind of ruined her shirt.” The slime summoner glanced at Mitsy the Mimic. “Sorry about the whole shirt-ruining thing.”

“T-That’s OK,” Mitsy said, sweatdropping herself now. “This shirt is kind of big on me, but it is fine.” She hugged her golden arms around herself.

“I see,” Black said, her brown eyes going back to Mitsy. “So who are you?”

“W-Who am I?” Mitsy frantically glanced around before her golden eyes ended up on Slimantha. “Can I please”—she placed her palms together—“go back into my chest now.”

Slimantha crossed her arms and puffed her cheeks out. “Bad! No running back into your chest!” Then the slime summoner’s expression softened, and she lowered her arms. She looked at Black and Tabitha. “This”—she gestured at Mitsy—“is Mitsy the Mimic. We found her in an alley, and”—a drop of sweat rolled down Slimantha’s right cheek—“I kind of tore her shirt.” The slime summoner then looked at Mitsy. “This”—she gestured at Black—“is my good friend Black. She’s a witch. This other lady”—she now gestured at Tabitha—“is Tabitha the Doll. She’s the lovely lady that runs Tabitha’s Apartments and is just the lady we came to see.”

“Oh,” Tabitha said. Her eyes were on Slimantha. “You came to see me. Did you need something? How goes the search for Mimi?”

Slimantha glanced at Mitsy. Then her brown eyes returned to Tabitha and met with the oddly flawless woman’s red eyes. “Well, we did find a mimic”—Slimantha hung her head—“but she wasn’t Mimi.” She then perked back up. “We think Mimi might be being held at an amusement park called Gold Mountain.”

“M-May I interject here,” Mitsy said, raising her right hand.

Tabitha turned to the mimic wearing a red long-sleeved shirt that was kind of big on her. “You may speak.”

Mitsy lowered her right hand. “It’s not an amusement park.” She stepped back and shivered slightly. “I really don’t like that place.”

“Wait.” Slimantha turned to Mitsy and crossed her arms. “You’re telling me that a place called Gold Mountain is not an amusement park?” The slime summoner blinked and then lowered her arms. “Go figure.” She then returned her gaze to Tabitha and smiled. “Actually, we have a favor to ask of you.” She clasped her hands together cutely and shifted her weight from side to side. “You see, Mitsy kind of escaped from Gold Mountain and thinks some chick named Valerie may want to take her back. Can you watch over her?” She shifted her weight from side to side again. “Please.”

“That”—Tabitha’s lovely red eyes went to Mitsy—“is fine.” She flashed one of her flawless smiles. “Come here please.” With her right hand, she beckoned Mitsy to step up to the counter. The mimic did as asked, and the eyes of the two petite women met. Tabitha flashed the mimic another flawless smile.

“You know?” Mitsy said, glancing away from Tabitha. “This isn’t really needed. I can just go back to hiding in my chest.”

Tabitha shook her head, the long locks of her black hair swaying beautifully with the motion. “Don’t worry. You’re safe here.” She gave Mitsy another of her perfect smiles. Then she glanced over the mimic’s body. “You look my size. Why don’t we fetch you some of my clothes?” She stepped out from behind the counter and grabbed Mitsy’s left hand with her right hand. Mitsy did not resist as Tabitha led her deeper into the apartment complex.

“So”—Black nudged Samuel—“did you have fun finding a maiden in an alley?” The cat woman’s black feline tail swished playfully.

“Just”—Samuel blinked—“what kind of question is that anyway?” His eyes were on Black.

Black shrugged. “You know.” Her lips twisted into a smile. “The interesting kind.” A snicker slipped out from between her lips, and her tail swished. “Got a shirt for me too?” She leaned toward him, pressing her face closer to him. Her tail gave another swish.

Samuel sweatdropped. “You don’t look like you need another shirt.”

“What if I pull this one off?” She grabbed the bottom of her shirt and made to remove it. She stopped short though and doubled over in laughter instead. Her black witch hat slipped off.

Samuel sighed, his cheeks now quite red. “Can you please knock that off?” He bent over and picked up Black’s fallen witch hat. He handed the hat back to her.

“Right. Right,” she said, accepting the hat. Her black cat ears gave a cute twitch. She then returned her hat to her head. “Thanks for picking my hat up for me.” Her tail swished behind her, and she flashed him a smile. Then she glanced at Slimantha. “Actually, I was going to do a reading on the Mimi thing. You guys want to head to my place for that?” She got a pair of nods. Her eyes then went to Samuel. “Don’t get any strange ideas about a girl having invited you to her apartment.” Her gaze then shifted to Samuel’s bare chest. Her tail twitched. “Actually, let’s swing by Samuel’s place first so he can get a shirt. Shirtless Samuel is kind of distracting.”
