Slimantha blinked. She stood in Lock’s Market near the ajar wooden door leading into said market. Her black shoes rested upon the wooden floor. Her beautiful brown eyes were on something—something feathery and cute—that waddled in through the doorway. She blinked again. Her eyes were still on the feathery new arrival. That feathery new arrival was a duck—a white duck wearing black pin-hole glasses.
“Hello,” she said, her eyes following the duck as it waddled up to her. She blinked yet again, and then the duck quacked at her. Her lips twisted into a smile, and she leaned a little closer to the duck. “I see. Thanks for the help then. I’m Slimantha the Slime Summoner.” She straightened back up. “Nice to meet you, Duckton.” She smiled again. “Let me introduce you to the others.”
Slimantha turned to the others. “This”—she gestured at Duckton—“is Duckton the Mighty Duck.” She blinked. “As you can see, he is a duck. He is cute and feathery. He is from The Duck Collective.” She blinked again. “He comes to help.”
Her beautiful brown eyes went back to Duckton. “This”—she gestured at Mimi—“is our beloved and beautiful mayor. Her name is Mimi. She’s a mimic. This”—she gestured at Black and smiled—“is my good friend. Her name is Black.” Black tipped her witch hat. “She is a cat woman who is a witch. This”—Slimantha gestured at Lock—“is Lock, and this”—Slimantha now gestured at Lisa—“is Lisa. Lock and Lisa are bunny people. They run this market.” Lock and Lisa both waved. “And this”—Slimantha finally gestured at Samuel—“is a guy I saved from a bear. His name is Samuel, and he is a hero.”
Samuel hung his head and sighed. “Why”—he looked back up—“does that bear thing keep getting brought up?” He didn’t get an answer.
Mimi glanced from the distraught Samuel to the duck standing in front of Slimantha. She stepped up to Slimantha’s left. Her beautiful golden eyes were on Duckton. She smiled. “Can you help us find Latril by any chance, Duckton?” she said, her voice sweet. She shifted her weight onto her left leg. Duckton turned to her and gave a quack. “Who’s Latril?” Mimi pouted. “Well, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised you don’t know who I am talking about.”
A sigh slipped through Mimi’s lips, and then she stepped back. She brought her right hand to her chin, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. Then she lowered her right hand, and her beautiful golden eyes lit up. “She’s around my height,” she said. “She doesn’t have my complexion though. Hers is ivory.” She glanced down at herself and smiled. Her weight shifted onto her right leg. “My golden complexion is truly lovely, isn’t it? It’s way better than hers.” She glanced down again. “And my figure is way better than hers.” She thrust her large bosom out haughtily and planted her left hand on her left hip. “How can someone go wrong with these feminine curves?” A snicker came from behind her. She glanced back and glared at the snickering Black.

“Someone clearly loves herself,” Black said, more snickers slipping out from between words. Her black witch hat slipped off, and she stopped snickering. Her black cat ears twitched cutely. She picked her hat back up and put it back on. Her black cat tail swished behind her. Her lovely brown eyes went back to Mimi. “Maybe you should get back to describing Latril.
“Right,” Mimi said. Her beautiful golden eyes returned to Duckton. “Like I was saying, she is roughly my height, but her skin is ivory. She has a pair of black feathery wings.” Mimi blinked. “You haven’t seen a bird woman like that, have you? She is the leader of the crows.”
Duckton stared at Mimi for an awkward moment. Then he shrugged and turned away. He poked his head out the door. Mimi and Slimantha both looked out the door too. Bird-on-bird violence played out in front of the trio as ducks and crows duked it out. One duck ran along the red brick road, its webbed feet pattering against the red bricks of the road. It headbutted a crow. Another crow swooped down, but another duck came to the rescue. Mimi and Slimantha both blinked. Duckton quacked. A few ducks—one of which was the duck that headbutted the crow—quacked back. Duckton turned back to Mimi and gave another quack.
“What?!” Mimi said, her beautiful golden eyes on Duckton. “She’s where?!” She clenched her fists, her face having paled somewhat. Another quack came from Duckton. “T-That”—she stopped short, almost having exclaimed an obscenity. She took a deep breath and then exhaled. Her fists unclenched. She looked away from Duckton and to the others. “Latril is at the mayoral building. She is literally in my office.” She clenched her right fist for a moment before relaxing it. “Let’s go. I don’t want to wait any longer. Let’s go kick her butt out of my office.” She crossed her arms. “Really? The nerve of her. To think she’d set up shop in my own office. I mean it’s my office.” She lowered her arms.
Slimantha blinked and then looked at Samuel and Black. She got smiles and nods from the both of them. Her beautiful brown eyes then went back to Mimi. She then smiled at the mimic. “We’re in,” she said. She then turned to Lock and Lisa. “You two want to come?” She pulled a cheese sandwich out of her left pocket. “I have a cheese sandwich.”
The two bunny people glanced at each other, and then their eyes returned to the slime summoner with the cheese sandwich. “Actually, I think we will stay with the market,” Lock said. He smiled. “Good luck with defeating Latril.” His white bunny ears gave a twitch.
“Yeah, good luck with kicking Latril’s butt,” Lisa said, her white bunny ears twitching. Her lovely green eyes met Samuel’s blue eyes. “I will be rooting for you from here. Good luck heroing, Samuel.” She flashed a smile at Samuel, and her bunny ears gave another twitch.
Slimantha returned her cheese sandwich back to her left pocket. Then her beautiful brown eyes went back to Duckton. She crouched down in front of him and smiled. “You want to come with?” she said, addressing the duck. Duckton quacked at her in the affirmative. “Great to have you along.” She smiled again and then stood up. Her eyes went to the still-ajar door. She then gestured at said door. “Let’s go. To the mayoral building.”
