Chapter 46: A Lunch Date With Friends

“My lady,” Samuel said, pulling a fancy wooden chair out from a fancy wooden table. Three other such chairs were positioned around said table.

“Thank you,” Slimantha said before taking a seat in the offered chair. She glanced at Samuel as the hero from another world walked around the wooden table. He took a seat opposite of her. Their eyes—her beautiful brown eyes and his blue eyes—met, and the two of them shared a smile. They sat at a table in Bill’s Diner. They were here for cheese sandwiches.

Bill the Flame Spirit, a man made of flame, walked out of the diner’s kitchen. “What can I get you two?” he said. His flaming eyes shifted to Slimantha the Slime Summoner. “You want a cheese sandwich, don’t you?”

Slimantha giggled bringing her right hand to her lips. “That’s right,” the tan-skinned slime summoner said, lowering her right hand. “A honey-sweetened tea too. I want a honey-sweetened tea too.” She flashed Bill a friendly smile.

Samuel’s blue eyes went to the man of flame. “Actually, I’d like a cheese sandwich too,” the hero said. “I’ll have a cola with it.”

Bill blinked. He glanced at Slimantha and then Samuel. Then his flaming right palm smacked against his face. “It is spreading,” he muttered. Then he headed back into the diner’s kitchen.

“Hey, guys! What’s up?!” a voice called out to the pair. A certain cat woman, Black, walked over to Slimantha and Samuel’s table, her black shoes lightly tapping upon the diner’s wooden floor. “Getting lunch? Care if I join?” She placed her hands on the back of the chair at Slimantha’s right. The soft cream skin of her fingers pressed against the wood of the fancy chair.

Samuel’s blue eyes went from the beautiful tan-skinned slime summoner sitting across from him to the cream-skinned witch leaning on the chair at his left. His eyes met with the witch’s brown eyes. He opened his mouth to speak. He did not manage to get any words out though. The beautiful woman already sitting at the table with him beat him to it.

“Go ahead,” Slimantha said. “Come join us for this lunch date between friends.” She flashed Black a lovely smile.

Black smiled back at Slimantha. “Will do.” She pulled out the fancy chair she had been leaning on and took a seat in it. She glanced toward the diner’s kitchen. “Hey, Bill! Get me a milkshake! Make it vanilla!” A thump drew her attention to Samuel, whose forehead had planted against the tabletop. She blinked and then glanced toward the diner’s kitchen again. “Actually, make that two vanilla milkshakes! The second is for Samuel!” Her lovely brown eyes went back to Samuel, who gave her a weak thumbs up with his right hand before planting his forehead against the tabletop again. She stared at the downtrodden hero for a moment before stretching her arms.

Samuel looked up at the sound of yet more footsteps. His blue eyes fell across a voluptuous golden woman, Mimi, and he groaned. The beautiful mimic headed for their table, her golden shoes lightly tapping against the diner’s wooden floor.

“Fancy meeting you three here,” Mimi said. Pulling out the last remaining free chair—the chair at Slimantha’s left—from the table, she took a seat. Her beautiful golden eyes went from Slimantha, to Black, and then finally to Samuel. She pouted. “Are you feeling alright? Should I fetch Doc Sabbatical?”

Black brought her right hand to her lips and giggled. Her black feline tail swished. “Don’t mind him,” she said, glancing at the downtrodden hero. Her lovely brown eyes went to Mimi. “I’m sure he’ll perk up after he gets his milkshake.” She turned back to Samuel and gave him a little poke. He groaned. Her tail gave another swish.

Bill emerged from the kitchen and headed over to Slimantha’s table. “A cheese sandwich and a honey-sweetened tea for the cheese-sandwich monster.” He set a cheese sandwich and a honey-sweetened tea in front of Slimantha and got a smile from the slime summoner in return. “A milkshake for the cat.” He set a milkshake in front of Black. “A cheese sandwich, honey-sweetened tea, and a milkshake for”—he sweatdropped—“the guy hunched over my table. Is he OK?”

“He’s fine,” Black said, turning to look at Bill. “Just give him his milkshake.” She brought her own vanilla milkshake to her lips and took a sip.

“Whatever,” Bill said. He set the remaining cheese sandwich, honey-sweetened tea, and milkshake down beside Samuel and then turned to Mimi. “Good day, Mimi. What can I get you?”

Mimi brought her right hand to her chin and pursed her lips. “I’m thinking”—she lowered her right hand—“a chocolate fountain cake and a cola. Let’s go with that.” She got a nod from Bill before the flame spirit disappeared back into the diner’s kitchen.

Black poked Samuel again. “Go on,” she said. “Try your milkshake. It’s good.” She brought her own vanilla milkshake back to her lips and took another sip. Her black cat tail swished.

“Sure. Sure,” Samuel said, sitting up. “I’ll try the milkshake.” He grabbed his vanilla milkshake and inserted its straw between his lips. He took a drink of it. “It is good.”

“So”—Black leaned closer to Samuel, her feline tail swishing—“how about you come with me to my apartment after this?” She leaned even closer to Samuel, her lovely brown eyes on his blue eyes.

“N-No thanks,” Samuel said, his cheeks flushing red. “I’m good.”

“Oh.” Black straightened up in her seat. “Your loss then.” She brought her vanilla milkshake back to her lips and took another sip. Then her lovely brown eyes went to Slimantha. “Want to head to my apartment after this? I’m thinking a tabletop gaming session.”

“Sure,” Slimantha said. “I’m in. Sounds fun.” She brought her cheese sandwich to her lips and took a bite. The cheesy goodness flooded her mouth.

“Wait,” Samuel said, glancing at Slimantha and Black. His gaze then focused in on Black. “You meant go to your apartment for a gaming session?”

Black snickered, raising her right hand to conceal her lips. “Yup. You already said no though, so no gaming session for you.” She snickered a bit more. “Maybe some other time.” She gave him a quick flutter of her lovely brown eyes before snickering yet again. Then those lovely brown eyes of hers went to Mimi.

“No,” Mimi said, not giving the cat woman the chance to even ask the question.

Bill re-emerged from the diner’s kitchen, bearing a chocolate fountain cake and a cola this time. His footfalls sounded out against the diner’s wooden floor as he walked over to Slimantha’s table. His flaming eyes fell upon Mimi, and he smiled. He set the chocolate fountain cake and the cola down in front of the golden woman, gave said golden woman a nod, and then vanished back into the diner’s kitchen.

Black brought her vanilla milkshake back to her lips and took yet another sip of it. Her tail twitched at the sound of a door. She turned to look at the new arrival, a cream-skinned bunny woman with short red hair and green eyes.

The bunny woman wore a cute pink shirt and gray mid-skirt. A pair of brown shoes clad her feet. Casually, she walked across the diner’s wooden floor, making her way toward the wooden counter—the wooden counter with a silver bell sitting upon it. A pair of cute white bunny ears showed atop her head, and a cute white bunny tail showed behind her.

Black set her milkshake down and smiled. “Hey, Lisa!” she said.

Lisa stopped, her white bunny ears giving a cute twitch. She turned to the cat woman calling out to her. She blinked, her ears giving another cute twitch. “Oh. Hi, Black,” she said. “Can I help you with something?”

Black stood up. Her lovely brown eyes met Lisa’s green eyes. “Tabletop gaming session at my place after this. You in, or are you in?”

A smile crept across Lisa’s lips, and then she raised her hands, making a pair of fists. “Count me in!” Her green eyes were fiery. “I’ll kick the butt of whatever we’re up against!” Then her stomach growled, and she sweatdropped. She lowered her hands. “Just let me get something to eat first.”
