Black walked into her living room. Her black shoes pressed down into the pink carpet. A wooden bookshelf stood along one of the wooden walls, and a wooden table stood in front of a comfy-looking brown couch. She glanced back to the two figures that had followed her in—one figure Slimantha and the other Samuel. Her brown eyes pivoted to Samuel. A mischievous smile weaseled is way onto her lips. She leaned toward him, pressing closer to the hero from another world.
“So,” she said, her black feline tail swishing, “what do you think of my apartment?” Her eyes were on Samuel’s face. Her tail continued to swish behind her.
Samuel, who now wore a red long-sleeved shirt much like the one he had given Mitsy, glanced away from the petite cat woman in the black witch hat. His blue eyes scanned over the room. “It seems like a nice living room,” he said. The witch pressed even closer to him, her tail making contact with his left leg. His cheeks flushed, and he pulled back.
“I’m glad you like it,” Black said. Her tail gave another swish, and then she started snickering. Now she pulled back. “Anyway”—she glanced at Slimantha before her brown eyes returned to Samuel—“make yourselves at home. I’ll get us some colas. Be right back.” She pivoted around and headed to her kitchen, leaving a certain slime summoner and a certain hero alone in her living room.
Slimantha glanced at the comfy-looking couch and then looked at Samuel. “Why don’t we have a seat?” she said and then smiled. She walked over to the couch and then sat down on the right. The couch gave a slight creak beneath her.
Two positions remained available on the couch, the center position and the position on the left. Samuel, for his part, took the center position and then glanced to the beautiful tan-skinned woman at his right. “So I guess it is just the two of us for now,” he said. His right hand brushed her left hand.
Slimantha blinked. She glanced down to Samuel’s right hand. Then her brown eyes drifted up to his face and met his blue eyes. She smiled. “Maybe you should take the other seat.” She gestured to the crystal ball sitting upon the table. Said crystal ball had been set up in front of the center seat. “Black is kind of going to need to use that for her reading.”
“I-I see.” A drop of sweat rolled down Samuel’s right cheek. “Guess I’ll move then.” He scooted over to the left position on the couch. Then he hunched over, a notable gap now between him and Slimantha.
“You OK?” Slimantha leaned closer to the hero and blinked. “You’re looking kind of deflated there.” She blinked again and then straightened up. “I got it. It’s cola envy, isn’t it?” She glanced at Samuel again. “Definitely cola envy.”
Somehow, Samuel managed to deflate even more. Slowly, his blue eyes went to the slime summoner sitting on the other side of the couch. “I don’t know what cola envy is, and at this point, I’m too afraid to ask.”
Slimantha’s expression shifted to one of utter seriousness. “Cola envy is when you want a cola, but there is no cola.” Her eyes return to Samuel, that serious expression of hers still present. “Some say it can even be fatal.”

Samuel sighed and then straightened up. His blue eyes went to Slimantha, who still wore that serious expression. “And how exactly is that supposed to be fatal?” he said.
“Well”—Slimantha’s serious expression finally dropped away—“what if, like, you are really thirsty or something?” She blinked. “Don’t worry, though. Black will be back with those colas any time now.”
Samuel’s eyes turned away from Slimantha and to the table. More specifically, they turned to something lying upon the table in front of him. “Is this …” He picked the thing up. “Is this a manga?” His eyes scanned over the cover.
The manga’s cover depicted a curvaceous human witch standing proud. Her eyes were purple, and her hair was long and black. The depicted ivory-skinned witch wore a purple cloak and matching high-heels. At the top of the cover, the manga’s title read, “Tales of a Mighty Witch.”
Samuel’s eyes went from the manga he held to Slimantha. “Does Black like this series?”
A huge grin spread across Slimantha’s face. “She loves that series.” The slime summoner swayed a bit, a big smile on her face. Then she gestured at what sat in front of her on the table—gestured at a figurine of the witch from the manga. “She totes fangirls for this character.”
“Well”—Samuel glanced at the figurine of the curvy human witch—“I guess that explains the figurine too then.” He sat the manga back down on the table.
“I’m back with the colas, guys,” Black grinned as she re-entered her living room with a wooden tray of coasters and glasses of cola. Her black shoes lightly pressed into the pink carpet as she walked. Her black feline tail swished behind her. She came to a stop and bent over, placing the tray down upon the table. Then she passed out the coasters and colas. She placed her own coaster and cola beside the crystal ball.
Black glanced at Slimantha and Samuel and gave them a smile before heading around the table. She squeezed in front of Samuel, reddening his cheeks with a nice view of her backside as she made her way to the couch’s center seat. She sat back, the center seat of the couch giving slightly beneath her. She turned to Samuel, a mischievous spark in her eyes. She leaned closer to the flustered hero. “Did you like the view?” she said. The next moment, she broke into laughter.
“Can you please not do that?” Samuel said, the red fading from his cheeks.
“But messing with you is so fun,” Black said. She brought her right hand to her lips and giggled. Then she lowered her right hand and turned to her crystal ball. Her cola sat upon a coaster at the right of the crystal ball. She grabbed her cola and took a sip. Then she sat her cola back down.
“Guess I should go ahead and do that reading now,” she said. She reached out and positioned her hands around her crystal ball. She gazed into the mystical item. “I see …” She waved her hands. “I see wings. Is that a dragon woman? So that’s Valerie.” She pulled her hands away from the crystal ball. She glanced at Samuel and then Slimantha. “Valerie did take Mimi, and Mimi is at Gold Mountain. However”—she deflated—“I can’t tell where Gold Mountain is.” She perked back up and looked at Slimantha. The eyes of the two women met. “I bet Mitsy knows where Gold Mountain is. Perhaps we should try asking her.”
“I see,” Slimantha said, crossing her arms. “So Mitsy it is then. Wait.” She blinked and then lowered her arms. “Actually, Samuel and I need to pick up Latril for this celebration thing.”
“Celebration thing?” Now Black blinked. “Did you guys get invited to some ducky celebration too?” A smile spread across her face. “Let’s all go together.”
“That’s”—sparkles appeared in Slimantha’s eyes—“a great idea.” She grabbed Black’s hands in her own hands and got a smile from the cat woman. Then she let go of Black’s hands and stood up. “Well, what are we waiting for? We don’t want to be late to pick up best sword bird girl.”
Samuel facepalmed and then stood up himself. “I’m not sure we should be calling a woman who tried to kill us some variant of best girl.”
