Chapter 16: Camping in the Ruined Throne Room

Slimantha yawned and stretched her arms. The rays of sunlight cascading down from above were faint. Night neared. She lowered her arms. Her beautiful brown eyes fell upon a trio of blue slimes bearing packs. Her slimes had returned.

She smiled and stepped up to the slimes. “Welcome back,” she said. She glanced from slime to slime to slime. “Did you three bring the goods?”

The nearest of the three slimes bounced up. It balanced its pack, a simple brown pack, upon its amorphous blue body. The other two slimes jiggled as they held their own simple brown packs.

“I see,” Slimantha said. “Set up the fire and tent. Just leave the food by the fire.” She smiled and then glanced at Samuel and Rose. “It will just be a moment for them to set up camp. We can eat by the fire after they finish.” She clasped her hands together cutely and fluttered her eyes. “They brought cheese sandwiches and honey-sweetened tea. Isn’t that great?”

Rose giggled at Slimantha, bringing her right hand to her lips. She lowered her hand and smiled. “Sounds good to me,” she said.

Samuel blinked and then glanced from Rose to Slimantha. “Why cheese sandwiches?” he said. “That does not sound all that filling honestly.”

Slimantha blinked, and then her gaze went to Samuel. For a moment, she just stared at him. Then she puffed out her cheeks. “I will have you know that cheese sandwiches are the perfect food,” she said. She leaned closer to Samuel and planted her hands on her shapely hips. “They have bread and cheese and are absolutely delicious. They are absolutely delicious.” She straightened back up, huffed, and then turned away.

“I-If you say so,” Samuel said, a drop of sweat running down his right cheek. His blue eyes were on Slimantha. “Sorry for questioning the glory of cheese sandwiches.” He hung his head.

Slimantha turned back to Samuel. Her brown eyes met his blue eyes, and then she smiled. “You’re forgiven,” she said. She brought her right hand to her lips and giggled.

Nearby, two of Slimantha’s slimes bounced about as they finished setting up a yellow tent. A short distance in front of the tent, the third slime poked at a campfire. Three logs, each log large enough to sit one person, lay around the campfire. Next to one of the logs, a brown pack lay.

The three slimes bounced over to Slimantha, and she turned her attention to them. “Not bad,” she said. She flashed a smile. Her brown eyes then went to the pack beside the campfire. “So the food is in there?” Her gaze went back to the slimes, and one of the three slimes jiggled at her. “Great. Good job.” She smiled again and waved the slimes off. The three slimes melted away.

Night fell, and the rays of sunlight swapped out with rays of moonlight. Slimantha stepped up to the log with the pack beside it. She glanced at Samuel and Rose. “Come have a seat. Let’s eat.” She smiled, the roaring campfire illuminating her smile beautifully. She gestured to the other two logs and then took a seat on hers. The tent was at her back.

Samuel and Rose both stepped up to the campfire. Samuel glanced at the smiling Slimantha and then at the log to Slimantha’s right. He sat down on it. Rose’s beautiful pink eyes followed Samuel as he took a seat. She then glanced at the free log to Slimantha’s left. She sat down on that log.

Slimantha’s brown eyes shifted from Samuel to Rose. Then she turned her attention to the campfire. She leaned toward it and closed her eyes. Its pleasant warmth cascaded over her. She opened her eyes and sat back. She stretched her arms and then glanced at the pack sitting beside her. She reached over and rummaged through the pack. A smile spread across her face as she began handing out cheese sandwiches and flasks of honey-sweetened tea.

Samuel’s blue eyes were on the cheese sandwich he now held. A flask of honey-sweetened tea lay in his lap. He brought the sandwich to his lips and took a bite. He chewed, and then he swallowed. He glanced to the side, and his blue eyes met Rose’s pink eyes. Rose the Plant Woman smiled at him.

“Do you,” Rose leaned closer to Samuel, “want a bite of my sandwich.” She held her sandwich up. Her beautiful pink eyes were still on Samuel. She smiled again, leaning a tad closer to him.

“I already have my own.” Samuel held his own sandwich up.

“But it is not my sandwich.” Rose fluttered her pink eyes cutely.

“Fine.” Samuel set his sandwich down upon his lap and then held his right hand out. “Give it to me.”

Rose smiled a huge smile but did not give him the sandwich. Instead, she moved it toward his mouth. “Say ah,” she said.

Samuel blinked. His blue eyes went to Rose’s face and met with her pink eyes. A soft blush came to his cheeks, and he opened his mouth. He bit down on Rose’s sandwich as she gently fed a bite of it to him. He chewed, his eyes still on her pink eyes. Then he swallowed. “It’s good,” he said, his face getting a bit redder.

“Glad you liked it,” Rose said. She pulled away from Samuel and then brought her sandwich up to her lips. She took a bite, chewed, and then swallowed. She glanced back to Samuel and smiled.

Slimantha glanced at Samuel and Rose. “You two are really cute together,” she said. She smiled at the two of them and then brought her sandwich to her lips. She took a bite. The cheesy goodness flooded into her mouth. She chewed and then swallowed. She finished up her sandwich and washed it down with the last of the honey-sweetened tea from her flask. Her brown eyes went back to Samuel and Rose. “You two ready to call it a day?” She stretched her arms and yawned.

Samuel glanced at Rose and then at Slimantha. “Sure,” he turned to the tent, “but we only have one tent.” He looked back at Slimantha. “I’m a guy.” He glanced at Rose. “Maybe I shouldn’t be sleeping in the same tent with you two.”

“I don’t mind,” Rose said. She fluttered her beautiful pink eyes at Samuel.

Slimantha brought her right hand to her lips and giggled. “Don’t worry,” she said. “I’ll just bonk you if you try anything funny.”

Samuel blinked and then looked at Slimantha. “If you say so,” he said. His blue eyes then went to the tent. “I hope there is enough room in there.”

Slimantha stood up and turned to the tent. She crossed her arms. “It should be fine. Let’s head in.” She led the group into the tent.

Actually, it was kind of cramped for three people. Slimantha and Rose laid down upon the bedding, Slimantha on the left and Rose on the right. Samuel entered after them. For a moment, he just stared at them. There did not look to be much room for a third person.

“Where am I supposed to sleep?” Samuel said, his blue eyes still on the two women.

Slimantha sat up. Her brown eyes met Samuel’s blue eyes. She patted the gap between her and Rose. “Just lay between us,” she said. She flashed Samuel a smile and then laid back down.

Samuel shrugged and then did as he had been told. He squeezed between the two women. A pair of green arms wrapped around him as Rose snuggled up to him. His cheeks flushed in response. Feeling Slimantha pressed up against him from the snug fit wasn’t helping him much either.

“Good night,” Slimantha said. She stretched her arms and almost whacked Samuel in the face. “Sorry about that. I’ll try to be more careful.”
