Today, I woke up with a familiar system notification in front of my face. I was a little bit surprised because it has been a while since I saw them, but the thing that got me taken aback the most is the content of the notification.
[ Acquired a new skill: Seed Sowing Lv. 1 (10%) ]
[ Acquired a new skill: Watering Lv. 1 (2%) ]
Never once in my life have I ever imagined that there’s a system skill related to farming, but here I am having two of them at the same time. It has been the general belief that the system only covers skills related to combat such as magic, alchemy, and swordsmanship. But farming? Really? People in the magic academy are going to be nuts over this discovery.
However, this makes me wonder. How could I, a magician, who just randomly planted nuts in the ground, receive farming-related skills from the system, while farmers, who clearly dedicated their life to planting stuff, who are also abundant in the Empire's long history, never been recorded to have received such skills? What’s the difference between me and the Empire's farmer? Is it because I learned magic first before planting stuff, or is it because of that humongous mana heart in the ceiling of this place?

Yeah, it’s probably the doing of the mana heart. It's always the big ass mana heart in the middle of the room that you can blame things on, right? I mean, even the most prestigious Imperial Magic Academy in its hundred years of research operations hasn't been able to confidently say they 100% solved the mystery behind the mana heart and the system; Who am I to theorize any further? I left the magical research field to join Blue Canary in the first place because those high ranking snobs at the academy always went ‘mana heart this, mana heart that’ or ‘system this, system that’ whenever I tried to propose any new unrelated theory for general publication. “Everything needs to connect back to the mana heart or the system,” they said. Yeah, whatever.
Rant aside, after being taken aback by the system notification, I noticed two dozen or so slimes were ransacking the nuts field. Of course, I quickly killed them and prop them up for drying, but the damage has been done. Most of the field was ransacked, and about 40% still intact. I spent all day reorganizing the field. Now, I only have 25 blue nut patches, 10 yellow nut patches, and 5 red nut patches.
Well, at least, I don’t need to worry about food for some time because the new slime remains will dry up in two days, but still, my nuts… how dare those slimes do this to my nuts!
I decided that I will stay up all night tonight to find out which air hole these slimes came from. Wish me luck.
