Day 19

There’s still no white snake today. However, there were some pigs ransacking the nut field. They damaged about half the field before I rounded them up in the space south of the nuts field, and dug the ground to create a pig trench—which is similar to the slime trench, but this one took half-a-quarter of the southwest area of the cavern.

As a note, writing the six o’clock hole, the three o’clock hole, the nine o’clock hole, and the twelve o’clock hole every time to refer to a direction in this cave is such a pain, I’d just use cardinal directions regardless of the real directions from now on. Twelve o’clock hole in the North. Three o’clock hole is in the East. Six o’clock hole is in the South. And the nine o’clock hole is in the West.

There are twelve pigs in the pig trench. Out of them, eight are sows, and the rest are barrows. After investigating, they are a part of mini pig species, which is half the size of a normal pig, but quadruple-quadruple more of its reproductive capabilities. I’m not sure what kind of mini pig specifically, but if a normal pig’s gestation period takes about 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days to complete, then I heard mini pigs only need 1 week of gestation to be born normally.

They are creatures that are always in heat all seasons, and as long as they are being fed well—which they did by preying on my precious nuts the night prior—I expect at least a couple of them are copulating right now.

I wanted to find out where they were coming from to prevent more accidental damage to my nuts, but at this point, I’d just construct a stone fence surrounding the field. Yeah, let’s do that tomorrow.

About half of the field survived the pig invasion today, it’s still a good number considering the last expansion. Though, it might not be enough to sustain my nut paste diet and nut wine production at the same time. Hell, these past couple of days I’ve been eating dried slime and starting to remember how awful it tastes. Should I also look for mushrooms growing in the walls of this cavern, just in case? I mean, I could see mosses starting to crept up the wall, perhaps I can find some mushrooms too. It has been awhile since I looked around this place, anyway.

Not a bad idea, not a bad idea.
