Kingdom of Angolia Arc - 8: A little problem

Kingdom of Angolia Arc - 8: A little problem

I was at the edge of the forest when I used a spell to detect any living being in a huge area, the same spell I used on the way to the dwarven kingdom. There wasn’t any monsters at all. Just animals such as squirrels and deers. This was troublesome, the dungeon was broken and the forest wasn’t a threat. Ah well, time to make my own training ground.

I gathered essence of death and raised some undead wargs, large hulking wolves. I had them spread around in groups so I could easily lead the heroes to the wargs. Fighting large number of dangerous opponents should actually train their teamwork. Now this was the time for real training!

.

.

.

“To the left!” Blackhair rolled to his right as the duke’s daughter warned him. The warg barely scratched his sides and it ran on its four legs towards the priestess girl. The elf immediately responded by shootings his arrows at the beast. The warg fell, unmoving.

At first the heroes had a lot of problems with defeating the wargs. Luckily for them, I could command the wargs to go easier on them so they won’t get killed in a few minutes. I had to lecture them of the proper way to not dying.

“Excellent!” I clapped. I gave a few pointers here and there, but usually it’s just the heroes just fighting while I lazed around. Lucia was carrying me on a sun chair while following the heroes around.

“Ah...you sounded like it was all thanks to you, but aren’t you just being useless the entire time?!” The duke’s daughter, Aera, complained.

“This is all part of training! Do you want me to babysit you the entire time?! I might as well just take on the demons myself! I didn’t get paid to do that!” I scoffed back. I fixed my sleeping position since it was getting a bit uncomfortable. When I couldn’t find the right spot, I jumped off my sun chair.

“Let’s go that way. I want to stretch my legs a bit,” I ordered the group. Lucia threw the sun chair away and followed us. Along these path should be another group of wargs. There should be about five wargs, so this would be a bigger challenge for them.

When we went through the path, we could see the wargs I placed waiting for us, ready to pounce on us. The heroes formed formation and readied their weapons. But before any of the heroes moved, one of the wargs got stabbed by a long spear and died. Truly dead. Most of the wargs would play dead and stayed still on the floor but this warg disintegrated into black mist!

“Hmm? What’s with these annoying dogs? Oh? What do we have here? Could it be….It is! It’s the heroes’ party! Lucky!” A walking tree proclaimed. A talking tree?!

“It’s a demon and its minions!” Blackhair warned.

“Hey! It took me a while to create them! You bastards will pay for that! Wargs! Activate maximum danger level and fetch me those sticks!” I ordered the wargs. Well, whatever. Only the mage noticed something was off when I said that.

The wargs charged at the walking trees and slowly tore them into pieces. They were almost ten times faster and stronger than when the heroes were fighting. The trees killed a few of the wargs but eventually there was only one of the walking trees remaining. Wait a minute, weren’t these just mithril trees with legs?

“Enough! I don’t know what you heroes did to these dogs, but you forced me to do this!” The last talking tree threatened. It stretched one of its arms outright then jabbed its own chest. What the hell was this thing doing?!

“Oh no! It’s going to reveal itself!” The priestess cried.

“Reveal what?!” I asked.

“The demon will reveal herself!” Blackhair said as he took a step back. What the hell were they on about? I watched the tree gouge itself and revealed something from its chest. There, on the outstretched palm, was something.

“BEHOLD, MORTALS! IT IS I, REGRETTABLY IN VAIN! THE UNHOLY GENERAL OF THE 1ST DARK ARMY, COME AND HAVE YOUR GUTS SPILLED!” The thing started to laugh maniacally.

“NO! IT’S TOO HORRIFYING!” The duke’s daughter fell on her knees, crying her tears out.

“Impo..impossible!” Blackhair still stood his ground but his legs were shaking.

“Oh Goddess, protect us!” The priestess girl prayed.

I was frozen in place. I wanted to say something or move, but I couldn’t. How could I? I was shocked beyond all measures. So this was a demon. The thing that people feared, the one that destroyed kingdoms and murdered thousands.

Glitter fell from the palm of the dead walking tree. The thing continued to squeak its voice, laughing with a high-pitched voice. Its pink tutu dress fluttered and on its hands was a wand that had a yellow bright star on its end. Its pink short hair shone cheerfully despite how little light there was.

Why….WHY THE HELL WERE THE FAIRIES THE DEMONS?!

“Everyone! We cannot let the demon escape! This could be our only chance! We need to fight her!” Blackhair ordered. The heroes collected themselves and threw themselves at the ‘demon’. The fairy flew towards the party laughing like a maniac. Blackhair swung his sword down with all his might but was met with the fairy’s tiny wand.

“WEAKLING!” She shouted as she kicked the hero. He flew back then slammed onto the tree. The wind got knocked out of his lungs and dropped onto the ground.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

“FOR ANGOLIA!” Aera thrusted her sword at the fairy but was parried. She shouted her moves then proceeded to rapidly throw her rapier at the fairy but the fairy was just too small and fast. The fairy did a roundhouse kick and slammed her tiny feet on the blonde's stomach. She spat out some blood but that wasn’t the end of it.

The fairy swung her wand upwards and let her tiny wand collide with Aera’s face, throwing the duke’s daughter into the air and onto the ground, unmoving. The mage and the priestess collectively started their chant then shot their spells at the fairy at the same time. However, the fairy raised a shield made from black mana and deflected both of them.

“AHAHAHAHAHHA THIS IS A HEROES’ PARTY?! THIS IS NOTHING BUT FOOD FOR ME!” The fairy shouted in her hysterical high-pitched voice. The wargs who didn’t attack until now tried to leap at her but she used a lance made of light to disintegrate them. Using this chance, the mage and priestess combined their spell into one holy arcane arrow.

The fairy threw out her palm and let her body absorb the massive spell. Her arm was showing tears, blood were spurting but the fairy, who was obviously out of her mind, wasn’t bothered by it. Once the entire arrow as absorbed, she threw back two copies of the spell at the heroes. The mage and priestess who were unable to defend against the spell were blown up. When the smoke subsided, they were just lying down.

The elf, Arrowsky, tried to retaliate with his arrows, shooting multiple arrows at one time. However, the fairy stopped all the arrows midair and slowly turned the arrows back to Arrowsky. With a snap of her fingers, the arrows flew back towards the elf. He tried to dodge, but couldn’t stop all of the arrows. He got hit with some arrows and fell onto the ground.

The fairy floated triumphantly over the heroes. She cracked her neck and turned towards me. She pointed and laughed madly.

“THESE KIDS ARE DEAD! YOU WERE WEAK! YOU COULDN’T PROTECT THEM! YOU STOOD THERE FROZEN IN FEAR! NOW DESPAIR AS I WILL KILL YOU NEXT!” She shouted.

“Whoa, whoa. Who the hell told you I was frozen in fear? I was just thinking why there’s a fairy over there beating the crap out of people.” I shook my head. I sighed then calmed myself. I tapped my chin, thinking if this was just one bad nightmare.

“What the hell are you on about? You’re only thinking of that while the children you were supposed to be protecting are dead?!” She laughed at me but I only shrugged back.

“I was only paid to tutor them. Besides, they’re not dead. I put multiple layers of shields on them so they shouldn’t be that badly injured. At worst, they’ll just be knocked out for a few minutes or so,” I explained.

“WHAT?!” She screamed at me then flew over the closest hero, Blackhair, and looked closely. She sensed multiple layers of shield surrounding him. Passively maintaining one shield was hard enough, but to have more than a dozen shield surround the body was something else entirely.

“Who...who the hell? Huh. Kuh. KUHAHAHAHA. You’re something I’ve never encountered before. You’re not human, are you?” She floated up and readied her wand.

“Well, technically, I’m a human so therefo-...”

“QUIET! I’m going to gut you. You’re going to scream as I slowly tear your flesh bit by bit and once you’re dead, I’ll kill these pathetic fleshbags called ‘heroes’ and parade their corpses in the capital of Angolia!” She proclaimed.

“Yes, sure. Whatever. Good luck.” I raised an earth pedestal to lean on. I felt like this was going to take some time. I had Lucia fan me while I thought about how I felt about this entire situation.

“DIE!” She screamed hysterically as she threw dark red bolts at me. I chanted a spell nonchalantly and the bolts were angled slightly away from me, just hitting the ground around me. Hmm..I couldn’t think with this song stuck in my head caused by using near-divine spells. I hated using near-divine spells while thinking something serious.

She ran her hands on her wand and extremely bright white light was extended from the wand, creating an arcane sword. Hmm..she’s using both holy and unholy light so what was she? I massaged my temples as she slashed repeatedly at me, but was blocked by an invisible shield.

Her spells were getting more annoying so I had to raise the intensity of my passive shields more. At this rate, I had to start pushing on the borders of near-divine tier of spells. The closer it was to divine spells, the stronger the headaches I got.

I AM IN CONTROL. An angry voice ran in my head, but I quickly suppressed the voice. Ah, it could be possible that the fairies I knew got affected by some kind of magic and made them crazy. Well, rather than thinking about it giving myself a headache, I might as well just ask this fairy.

“Hey. A thousand years ago, you fairies were so cute and innocent. Always so friendly. What happened?” I asked as she repeatedly slashed my shield. She stopped and floated a few distance away.

“Hah...hah….A thousand years, huh? Ever since we were born, we fairies had been plotting the destruction of all races. But we were lusting for the greatest and most majestic act of genocide. We had to act weak, act adorable, act..like this…What better massacre could there be, but to be wiped out by such ‘cute and innocent’ beings, am I right?” She gasped tiredly as she raised the skirt of her tutu dress. So these guys were just nuts, huh. Since people with stronger affinity to magic are crazier, that meant that fairies were masters of magic to be this nuts.

“You’re the ones that caused the Dark Tea Party a few centuries ago, am I right?” I asked.

“Ha ha. Obviously. Who the hell are you to not know?” She raised her hand and started to form a divine bolt. Oh, lovely. She’s raised the levels. I dropped all my shields and fixed my stance. I bent my body a bit and put one foot slightly behind, like I was going to catch something heavy.

The bolt on her hand had the color of the void, sometimes red, something black, sometimes it felt like there was no color at all. It was like existence was being erased by that bolt. She floated upwards slowly and let the bolt get bigger, absorbing more and more light, the space around the bolt started to look black and white.

“You dropped your guard? Finally giving up?! LET ME HELP YOU ERASE YOUR MISERABLE LIFE LITERALLY!” She threw the bolt at me, there was cracks of reality as the bolt flew across the air towards me. Color was being sucked as it went through, leaving a trail of uncolored space.

Divine spell. Not really my type. But, hell, not like I had a choice. I allowed the whispers and song to take over my mind for a bit. I converted mana not only from this world, but from another dimension towards my hand. When the bolt reached me, I swatted it with my hand towards the side. It cracked reality a bit, like a ball smashing through a window. The bolt dissipated away before it even hit floor.

“WHAT?! HOW DID YOU DEFLECT THAT WITH YOUR HANDS?!” She cursed hard at me. I wriggled my hands towards her.

“Silk gloves. Comfortable and deflects magic bolts.” I snickered. She twitched at my unexpected answer then gave a lifeless chuckle. Then she bursted into a mad laughter. She was holding her stomach, tears coming out of her eyes. She was basically spitting blood as she laughed.

“AHAHAHHAHA. THAT WAS TOO DAMN FUNNY. Alright, alright. You’ve forced me to do this. This. This. This. I love it! I LOVE IT! TOO BEAUTIFUL!” She pulled a knife out from her tutu dress. Where the hell did she even keep that?!

“Dying is an art, you know that? But to force me to do this. This isn’t art. It’s like a poem that had no rhymes….I SUMMON THE ABYSS!” She said as she stabbed herself with the knife and laughed as she choked on her blood after telling me some nonsense while making her way towards me. Her body crumbled, slowly turning into dust just in front of me and her laughter soon disappeared. What followed was just silence.

And...wait a minute. Nothing was moving. I couldn’t hear anything. Was there no sound? I looked up and saw where the fairy was. In her place was a black hole. Did she say the Abyss? Oh shi....

“Someone summoned the Abyss itself?” A voice called out.
