Hero's Rise
Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Throughout earth, despite having nearly 10 billion people, it is rare to see people like Kevin and Server Admin, however even more rare is the only hero that has never once openly fought to save people yet is the most revered person in the entire world.

She goes only by the name ‘The Seer’ yet no hero dares try anything because it was this woman, with her unique ability, that changed the flow of history countless times.

Hundreds of immensely dangerous situations were seen ahead of time and countermeasures were created to protect the population.

A unique thing about her is that her power draws in some unknown unique energy that has extended her life for nearly 100 years. Being 124 this year, the seer looks no different from a beautiful middle aged woman but with bewitching beauty.

This person was leaving a secure building and entering a secretly armored car.

After a while, a powerful man walked out and looked at the sun. This was Server Admin and his face was in a scowl.

“Damn that woman, telling me to go and train some kid with a gamer power. What the hell does she freaking mean that my power is compatible with it, this is just putting me to work without pay!” he cursed.

Still he called a car and called the government to ask about Kevin because he wasn’t a fool to ignore the words of the seer. She was one of the few people who could make him work with words alone. Even other heroes would not and only the appearance of another supervillain or destructive brave men could actually make him leave his base.

He was shocked that they were already preparing to find a hero, even if it was just to be in the city as they used the boy's power to help heal thousands of disability powers that could be resolved with his power.

“Leave it to me. The seer asked me to talk with the kid a bit.” he said.

“Really! That is fantastic!” the man on the phone said.

He just rolled his eyes and closed the phone. “So that is the difference.” he muttered.

Compared to himself, after getting an overview of the power, he understood that it was a temporary placement but it affected everyone because the boy had no autonomy of the power.

He instantly snorted because he had some understanding of the ability and knew where to start from and why the seer had looked for him.

Despite how rare gamer powers are, they are not completely unseen. 99 out of 100 powers like this are abilities that affect only the person themselves, giving them gamer elements such as stat distribution but they come with heavier costs. Stats is an accumulation of energy meant to change the body. Those who extend it from their bodies have different effects such as having just a few gamer skills such as identify and such which extends the field to an object or person allowing them to get a numerical reading following special rules but activation costs a lot of energy.

Just like Kevin, most of these powers are compatible with his own field and could even merge to expand their abilities under the effect of the field. Even Admin himself felt more complete when they were in his field which is why he actually takes a lot of this kind of person as a sidekick of his pure gamer heroics company.

They deal with a huge number of small cases he doesn’t bother with but in some cases he has to intervene to save them on rare occasions.

Like that he headed to virginia.

A crowd was gathered around one man and that was Admin himself.

The doctors, nurses and many non psychic patients had learned who he was quickly and had crowded him.

It was one of the reasons he didn’t like public exposure but he still held a professional smile on his face as he signed autographs for a while before stopping.

“I came on a job, I am honored that everyone is happy to see me but I really need to get through. Please calm down and soon we can deal with the healing of every patient to help everyone get better.” he said.

Every patient was excited and he was finally able to get through and walked to the government complex until he found the boy holding an orb that was already partially filled with energy and others just filling.

He stopped and instantly cast his identification skill but frowned when he found something akin to firewalls blocking his view around Kevin like a defense against other gamers.

With a frown, he stopped using it and walked over, “So this is the boy that is helping cure psychics everywhere.” He said, drawing eyes and gasps.

A government man walked forward, “Sir Admin, we thank you greatly for coming.” he said, extending to shake.

Server Admin sighed and shook it and looked at the kid, “Is that how his power works?” he asked.

“Until now it has been like that.” the man said.

He nodded and walked over and bent down to look at the orb ignoring Kevin himself.

“Which energy is making which line?” he asked.

Everyone was surprised before each of them extended their fingers to a different plug and line that was constantly expanding.

He nodded and stood before noting down something and extended his finger into it but to everyone’s surprise, his finger was blocked.

Gamer space has yet to form, the Admin is not allowed to access the server until the gamer space is planted.

His face turned extremely serious when he discovered that the gamer space actually interacted with his own system on a superior level. He was understanding more and more why the Seer asked him to come.

“Seems I can’t access it until it is placed.” he said and withdrew his hand and the message vanished.

He walked away in thought, never once talking to Kevin and just waited.

After about 5 minutes, the energies were filled and he walked to the spot they had prepared so that the expansion was perfectly within the compound and placing it.

Server admin watched as the field expanded and covered everything.

Instantly he felt his own field automatically trying to expand alongside it but he suppressed that impulse until the field was fully open.

The common process of the field calculating started and even Server Admin felt it running through his body but his own system quickly plugged the information and his own system windows appeared.

“Damn, it really is a higher level. That said… It kind of makes sense. If I am an admin, he most likely is a Game master.”

Game masters are the organizer or creator of a game while an admin is the worker who monitors the game applying bans and executing rules placed down by the game master.

“Alright, let’s see what is up. Server connect.” he said and lightly extended his field but was shocked when it rushed out and perfectly blended into the gamer space to the ends of the barrier.

Server Admin has accessed the gamer space.

Because the Game Master has not obtained authorization, Server Admin has obtained management control of the gamer space for the time being.

“So he is a Game master!” he said.

At this time the others noticed a slight change, the one who noticed first was Kevin as he felt something take over the ability that he already had no control over.

“Kid, come over here!” Admin shouted.

Kevin flinched and ran over quickly.

“Besides the energies, what else do you know about your power’s systems?” He asked.

“Huh?... um not much. Supposedly what I have active is just the basic systems for it to run properly. It runs on world power, status uses life force, stats use chi, psychic or mental energy for skills and spiritual energy, a kind of mental power, is for traits.” He explained.

“What about the options?” he asked. Kevin just shook his head. “I see… Options…” he said.

Instantly it opened before him and he narrowed his eyes, “So the ability is fully active because my power is accessing locked systems. Huh?” he muttered and looked at a flashing exclamation mark on the option window and pressed it. A window appeared for him and Kevin at the same time

System notice

Through a third party, the Game Master Tutorial has been activated. Because the game master is not allowed to access this, after the field is closed, his memories of this information will fade.

“Wait! What bullshit is this! The system tutorial prohibits you from learning this! This is like saying that without figuring out the tutorial without the tutorial it is useless!” Server admin shouted but the system didn’t care.

Kevin suddenly held his head at this time as information was channelling painfully into his head.

“It… hurts!” he said.

“Fuck this! Someone, bring me a blank book quickly!” he shouted.

Everyone scrambled to get something and soon came with an empty notebook but Kevin was in too much pain but Server Admin didn’t really care as he touched the boy’s head and a simple shock shot into his head and his eyes opened wide and his hands grabbed the pen and he began to write instantly on the book.

Everyone was shocked by the speed and nearly print-like lettering and even more the speed of the boy's hands as he wrote rapidly and flipped through.

It kept going for nearly the extent of the field working when he finished with only 3 pages of the book left only 2 minutes before the field broke down.

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

Kevin put down the pen and his eyes seemed to return to normal but he almost fainted and his eyes were almost vacant.

Server Admin scanned the book with his identify skill out of curiosity.

Game Master System Tutorial Guidebook

Legendary Rarity

A book only possible to create when a novice Game Master obtains the tutorial with the help of a third party that can force activate the skill ‘Skill book creation’

He snorted and took the book and began to read while the men scrambled to help Kevin. His head was hot and they brought cool pads and ice.

Soon the space turned off and he began to wake up as the mental load on his brain was vanishing but he groaned for about five minutes as a sign of his memories being whipped of the information until he finally woke up.

“Kid, I honestly don’t know what to say.” Server Admin said as he closed his book, “But you have one fucked up system.” He said.

“Huh?” Kevin muttered.

“Your Gamer space is screwed up. You were born with a power that was designed to only be trainable if you had someone that can connect to your system to draw out the information.” he said and tossed him the book. “Keep that safe, it holds the basics you need to learn to be able to obtain the first level game master authority for your own powers. Getting higher access, even i can’t get that until you reach the basic authority. You can consider it a kind of blooming effect but your power isn’t even 1% active as it is now when you let others charge up for you.” he said.

“How do I charge it then?” He asked.

“It doesn’t take much energy.” Server Admin said, serious in teaching him about his own power and pulled him up and looked at everyone, “I’m going to borrow this kid. What I need to teach him isn’t something you all need to hear.” He said and pulled the boy to a private room and sat him down next to him before opening the book.

Kevin finally looked at it and was surprised to see pictures and a huge amount of writing.

“What is this?” he asked.

“It is how to construct your gamer space, the basic steps at least.” he said. “When constructed properly, it gives huge feedback to your body and will activate the systems directly to your body. The first and foremost is how to power the system. I have countless sidekicks that have gamer type powers, one thing that is the same in all of them is that no matter how basic, every system runs on world power and every system is connected. Yours is the first that isn’t and this needs to be fixed by forming the first plug that will connect you and the circuits to the world.” Server admin said and began to show him how it was done.

Kevin summoned the orb that was bare once more but instead of feeding it directly they started doing something different.

“The hardest part is having the energy to make the complete first part but you can’t have help in this. The entire system needs to be made by your own energy and it is a test. See this first system of plugs and circuits, they are what connects the system to the world and it is what world power creates if it is fed into the system instead of a third party.” he explained.

They went over how it was done and after finding the proper spot at the north pole of the orb, he just touched the orb with a thought to ‘block his finger’ and it did as he asked but in that spot he began to channel his stamina.

It began to form a hair strand sized circle and soon Kevin started to huff as his physical energy was being drained.

One strand finally formed a circle as wide as his finger and firmly planted itself and suddenly Kevin gasped.

Server Admin turned wide eyed when he looked at the boy’s forehead as a thin blue circle formed and the heat from the air slowly vanished slowly as energy channeled into that thin circle through his hand and into the circle on the orb forming another line that superimposed making it thicken.

It was like a chain reaction, each new line would thicken the one on Kevin’s forehead as worldly energy was pulled in until a plug point was fully formed and Kevin was huffing as his finger was finally released.

“What… was that!” he asked.

“From what I can guess, that was your first contact with world power. There are six plugs, north and south and four equator plugs that need to be made but as mentioned, each constructed part becomes part of you. Deactivate the orb and form it again and see.” He said.

Kevin looked scared but the orb broke down before he formed a new one and Kevin was surprised to find the circle already formed.

“Good, it is just like the information in the tutorial. You need to make six, they will appear on your head, hand palms, feet palms and your heart. Then you need to connect them all starting from the head to the heart and then the rest before it returns to the head in a careful system. This will connect you directly to the world’s energy network. It should permanently activate the basic systems on your body and you can summon the field and close it as you desire.” he said.

“What about the rest?” Kevin asked.

“All of the energy you have access to is already present.” he said and handed him the book. “Each and every step is clearly written down. I used a unique skill to make you transform the information in the system into the easiest to understand guidebook you can make. When you finally finish doing everything in this book, you won’t ever need help with the basic start up of your own ability.” he said and stood up.

“Ah… are you leaving?” Kevin asked.

“To some degree, keep in mind that there are very powerful people keeping an eye on you, kid. To make sure you are safe, I’m going to be assigning a few of my stronger sidekicks to your home city so don’t worry about the run of the mill trash trying to do anything but be careful of stronger people. Use your ability as little as possible.” he said.

“Yes sir.” Kevin nodded and tightened his grip on the book.

Server Admin nodded and left while Kevin walked out and found he was already gone and after walking around a bit he found Mr Atlas.

“How did it go?” he asked.

“Good, his ability and mine are compatible so he taught me a lot about our type of ability.” he said, hiding the fact that he was eventually going to gain full control. He was aware of many dangers for unique powers like his own and keeping a tight lip on it is very important.

“Really? What did he teach you about?” Mr Atlas asked.

“To some degree it was about how to actually train better to have the energy to activate the field on my own. When I can do it on my own, I will have proper access to the field’s more complex systems. But he said I needed a really high stat point to support the stamina to activate everything so I need to work really hard.” He said smiling as he told a half truth.

“That is good, I heard Server Admin is very reclusive but he is a very good teacher to gamer type abilities because of the many different qualities of each person and their access to gamer type powers.” he replied.

“Yeah… how are the patients?” He asked.

“Great, besides a few troublesome psychics that needed psonic suppressors and a hint of mind control from skilled psychics to properly enhance the wisdom, a great deal of other types of abilities found a huge upgrade in their bodies compatibility. We are actually starting to think that your power isn’t just improving the bodies but directly counter flaws in the abilities and make it work properly.” He said.

“Really? How did you reach that?” He asked.

“Well, we were actually testing two people with bone degradation. One used your power and the other used Milo’s supplement pill. The pill gave a 10 point upgrade in constitution but when the same was done to the patient using the stat points, surprisingly, the energy flowed through the bone before going through the body to make the entire body more physically durable. That is why we started to think that your system is using stats to compensate and slightly evolve the body of people to disable debilitating features. We haven’t fully confirmed it but now, we are going to take DNA tests of future patients before and after to see if there is any drastic change.” he said.

“I didn’t expect my power to go that deeply!” Kevin said, shocked.

“Many abilities go above and beyond our comprehension, we just need to adapt to their appearance and growth. You already know but you are going to need to undergo special training to grow quickly so that you won’t be hunted down right.” he said.

“Yeah I know. Leveling and gaining stats needs a lot of stimulation through exertion so it makes sense.” he said.

“Good that you understand that. Your tapped potential puts you higher up above normal people but still not enough to enter a heroics course but that isn’t going to stop us.” he said.

“Yes sir. Just curious but what about the others?” he asked.

“You mean Robin and the others? Well you kids that joined up with Robin are doing different things like training but the other four just got their trainee grade hero’s equipment. It was a major class and they needed to go to a special event to have their powers and fighting styles analyzed and given basic suits to do simulation fights. Their official first suits will be coming out in about a week with low grade military grade material.” he said.

“So cool.” Kevin said.

Mr Atlas laughed, “I know, i got a lot of useful stuff from them as well. The best are some weight distribution bands that I can strap onto my body that distributes weight acting on my body to other parts of my body instead of just my arms.” He said.

“I never saw you fighting before.” Kevin said.

“Yeah, that is because I got the license only to become a heroic teacher, not to be a vigilante.” He said.

“I see… Do we need to stay longer?” he asked.

“No, we can head back.” he said.

Mr Atlas took him back to his home since it was already afternoon and school was out with the rest of the club doing their own thing.

“Arg!” Tristan groaned in the club the next day.

“Is something wrong.” Lola asked.

“I can’t get my digi spawn to grow. Even though it has been so long, it only became a blog that releases a lot of junk data bubbles that the app collects and it is weighing down my phone’s memory.” He said even showing the large external memory connected to it.

The others looked at him with a weak smile. No one knew how to help him.

Robin was equally as confused because this wasn’t the first time Tristan complained to them about this. In fact, to the expense of his club mate, he had actually looked through the digimon catalog for the one that looks like it and tried to get some hint but just like the one there, he only released tiny data bubbles that in the anime universe, was attempted to be used to make a virus but failed.

“Is there no instructions of how it is supposed to be?” he asked.

“No, it is supposed to upgrade once enough data is gathered but it is nearly 5 times the original size and looks like a puddle of slime while releasing nearly 80% of the data in the food it eats.” Tristan complained.

“Huh?” everyone muttered.

“What?” he asked.

Milo looked at him with a strange expression, “What is the specific information on the bubbles?” he asked.

“Let me check…” He said and pulled up the data bin and checked it, “Excess data that the digital spawn couldn’t contain.” He said.

Everyone looked at one another and smiled weakly.

“I think considering it is a slime, it might not even be a completely born ‘newborn’.” Robin said what everyone was thinking.

“What do you mean?” he asked.

“He means that it is possible that you need to compress the creature into an egg and pump all that extra data in those bubbles to increase the amount of data to the limit until it upgrades after having something to seal all that data inside.” Milo said.

Everyone nodded, “Remember how digivolution happens. In the Digimon later renditions of the anime we have watched, the digimon are put into a sort of egg to evolve.” Shoji said.

Tristan face palmed after hearing that. They had indeed watched the anime to get hints because of how similar they are. He began to mess with the app. “Can this even take voice command?” he said.

“Voice command activated.” the app chimed in.

Everyone froze and sighed.

“What can the voice command do that the menu can’t?” Tristan asked to test it.

“All commands outside traditional commands.” it replied.

At this time, everyone began to walk over behind him to watch.

“Then take all those data bubbles and pump it back into the digital spawn while forming a shell to contain it all compressed and make it upgrade.” he said.

“Command accepted.” the next moment, the imagine pulled back and thousands of bubbles suddenly materialized and everything glowed and rushed at the blob and began to spin around lifting it up and forcing it to spin until everything was forced into an egg shape that it was trying to escape from before all that glowing data surrounded it in glowing data before it solidified into a gridded egg formed of hexagons.

“Data compression has been achieved, digital spawn has begun to upgrade. Software upgrade detected, firewall systems detected, AI system upgrades. Digital spawn now possesses basic self thought beyond instincts.” the app said.

The egg on the screen kept growing bit by bit until it shined after a minute and was sucked up into the digital spawn and what was revealed was a sort of ghost shaped creature that dropped down and had two arms. It was no longer a slime and instead it was a solid creature.

“Wow, it really did digivolve.” Lola said.

Oliver took out his phone and pulled up a digimon catalog, “Let’s see, this looks most like… Motimon. This is the one that evolves into that bug digimon that looks like a spiked ladybug.” Oliver said.

“Negative, future growth cycles require the digital spawner’s own design to build future physical growth forms. Outward appearance is subjective, internal systems are important for development.” the app said.

“Damn, did the app also evolve? We have been asking randomly about it for the last few weeks but only today it suddenly replied.” Lilian said.

“Affirmative, module data node has gathered enough data to form this small autonomous unit to run the app with higher efficiency.” it replied.

“So my phone bred it’s own AI? Is that why so much memory was used up recently!?” Tristan exclaimed.

“Affirmative. Development potential is weak, however. Please obtain a higher processing unit for both this unit and digital spawn. App evolution can happen by possessing a higher processing unit.” it said.

Everyone looked at one another. “It seems like we need at least a gamer level PC to safely contain the future of your ability as well as easy to connect ports for each phone that connects to it.” Oliver said.

“We should actually try to make a specific device specifically for holding these living AI’s while still connected to a central port that could even act as communicators for the club.” Robin said.

“Yeah… but first, we should test out how strong this little guy is.” Tristan said and everyone agreed wanting to see a living digimon and their abilities.
