Hero's Rise
Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Taking the two cars, three with Mr Atlas in his own, they soon reached the institute and met with the doctor from before.

“Oh my, your back and in a much larger number.” The doctor smiled.

“Yeah, we officially made our heroics club in our school. We actually came because of several results we got from just learning about our new friend’s abilities.” Robin said and introduced the others.

“It is good that you have the club. We have been anxious about it. Mr Knight, we have several people who wish to work with you to properly cultivate the herbs from the nether realm.” the doctor said.

“I am open for discussion but we aren’t really here for that.” Milo replied.

“Ah yes, you said something about your friends?” He asked.

“Can we go inside?” Robin asked.

They head to the office and Robin shows him all the information he gathered on his friends. Especially the gamer space and dungeon.

“Life force egg… an orb of pure life force consumable by all forms of life. It is extremely pure but since it can be taken in smaller packages it is fine. Still, this fact about the child’s ability changing after fully awakening, this is almost like a miracle treasure for civilian class abilities because it is a chance to develop their powers.” He said.

“Yes sir, that said it isn’t that which brought us. The egg is useful for normal people mostly but what we want to show is the Gamer space. You can read it and understand yourself.” Robin said.

Turning a few pages he found the page on it and began to read. His expression was normal until part way and frowned. He fixed his glasses and read more focused. The specific details about the stats caught his attention and specifically the stat point system.

“Amazing, what exactly do you plan for this?” He asked.

“Honestly, Mr Atlas mentioned that wisdom likely affects our brains overall potential. Harold was even using glasses with only 8 wisdom but when he increased it to 15, his eyes actually didn’t need them anymore. We actually had the idea that maybe mind based illnesses could be cured through this. It is quite painful but maybe it can help restore, safely, the deteriorating brain of elder people or people with nerve or brain damage.” He said.

The doctor looked at him and at the stats. “Brain damage I agree but nerve damage it will not. It would likely need a combination of Wisdom, Dexterity and Constitution. You children don’t know this but special space abilities like this one are quite rare. The ability to directly access untapped potential stored in the body is a very rare ability and only Server Admin, who has a similar game system space ability, is known for it because it is the only one that lets other people do this. Some other abilities like it naturally exist but they add different effects such as controlling natural laws but adding a video game system like this is a very overpowering system. Of course, not being able to power it is it’s own problem.” he said.

Server Admin is the hero name of the person with the Admin Game Server, a very similar power to Kevin’s Gamer Space.

“So there are studies into this?” Robin asked, shocked.

“Yes, naturally. However, Mr Admin isn’t always available to deal with it. He is very strong but isn’t very social. Instead, he focuses on honing the skills he has thanks to his ability and enhancing his level and stats.” the doctor said.

Robin frowned, “That is so selfish, even if he opened his space under any hospital, it is enough for many doctors to work with for days.” Robin said.

“Robin, there are many different people in the world. They won’t always think like you.” Mr Atlas said.

“Sadly that is true. However, about healing mental illnesses, that is a very great ability. In normal hospitals, despite having some abilities for healing, it is difficult to restore lost mental capacity. Even more, the recovery of people who are under recovery therapy. Dexterity has been confirmed to directly affect the development of the nerves in the body except the brain while wisdom directly affects the brain. Raising both would result in overall healing. Constitution on the other hand is known for affecting the bones and muscular durability as well as healing factor. These three, if given access to any hospital, would honestly be godsent.” He said.

“Woah. Are there patients here that need help with that?” Robin asked.

“Well, not directly but there are a number of psychic type abilities which cause a rather drastic problem with the mind. This fact about intelligence and wisdom however has never been mentioned. Server Admin’s zone never mentioned a talking voice explaining the acquired systems either.” He said. “Do you have admin control?” He asked.

Kevin looked depressed and shook his head, “I only have the ability to conjure the field while I need help from others to power it.” He said.

“Hmm, that is a good power to have with friends. There are likely many energies in the world yet to be tested. Many man made energies might be the one to unlock special systems including the admin control and possibly control options. Who knows. Anyways, if you children wish to test it out, i would be more than happy to help out, however, please give me time to unite the nurses and doctors and explain the situation, that way they are aware and can quickly help the most dire patients. We naturally have a lot of patients that could use this enhancement.” He said.

“Alright sir, we will charge the field, just come and tell us when you are ready.” He said.

Like that they began to charge up the field while the doctor called all personnel. After 20 minutes they planted the field.

All psychic type ability users with deficiencies were gathered and together they were carefully guided.

Their main problems stemmed from overpowering mental power in a weak body, extreme intelligence in a weak brain and even powerful psychic powers that the brain itself couldn’t grow into.

Robin took the chance to talk with other people about the stats and found that instead of the stat number of everyone being 10% of their total stats, some of them were based on levels. Robin assumed 24 points for him was due to the stats but after some thought, he assumed it might have been level based but his body couldn’t store more at the time. Every person had a multiple of 5 so maybe his body limit at the time was 24 which is why he lost a point.

All the psychic users each enhanced wisdom to at least 15. Many, shockingly, had below 5, the rest was given to constitution and dexterity to supply their bodies with needed development. Those that needed a strong body to support their mental power as well as powerful brains instead had to enhance the brain to support their high intelligence and then focus on their bodies that were innately weaker.

The bone supplement was brought out by Milo at this time to save stat points and amazingly, people with weak bones faced a lot of pain but their weak constitution rose several points as a result of that. The rest went into strength, agility and dexterity to enhance the rest of the body.

At the end, when they accepted the changes, they all fainted as their brains started to get enhanced.

With scanners constantly over them, they witnessed the bodies being enhanced and amazingly, the brains of many of these psychic ability users began growing.

When everything finally ended, they started to wake up but it was very different. Many people cried with happiness as the huge mental pressure from their psychic powers was finally settling down and they could support the power while others looked confused like they had woken up and didn’t know where they were.

These were people who were born and never had much clarity in their life.

Families were called in droves while many injured and needy people were taken care of next and asked to give specific stat upgrades to supplement their weakening bodies.

The elders were the most excited. Their old bodies filled with strength but of course people here had deficiencies so besides getting a bit stronger there wasn’t as much change.

Only those with actual injuries saw great change instead as they healed up from old and degrading injuries and were sent to get tests and see if their situation was better.

After the 2 hours passed the institute began to calm down but every enhanced person had to undergo a new round of tests to see their situation.

The doctor thanked them for this and said that the institute will be busy for a while as many people might even be discharged because of this.

“I will inform government personnel that your heroic club is established. They will send a few people tomorrow. I’m sure they will be extremely happy to discover the new additions to your club’s abilities for healing as well as training. No doubt police and military might want to take turns coming to enhance their stats through the system.” He said.

“Honestly, that is going to be a headache because without someone with chi, it would be difficult. It was good that the institute had someone like that since chi has great transmission for healing but we honestly don’t know anyone.” Robin said.

“It would be a good idea to find someone then. Even if just the stats and status was activated, that is enough for everybody. Being able to access untapped potential is a big bonus in life, you know.” He said.

Everyone naturally understood and agreed.

They had to leave because the institute now had a lot of work to do but the staff along with the many families were happy that so many people would be cleared of their problems.

“Now that just leaves one thing.” Robin said as they walked to the car.

“What?” Shoji asked.

“Tristan, are you able to feel any bit of the network after eating the life force egg?” Robin asked.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

“Huh… uh. I did feel a kind of ‘hole’ at school. There was one in basically every building of the school.” he said.

“Zack, can you give him a full egg? Let's see if you can’t fully awaken at least the ability to feel nodes.” Robin said.

Standing at the car, they watched him eat the full egg and grit his teeth and fist as he focused to process and slowly, like his brother, he began to form lines along his body but at a much slower pace.

They formed only around his arms and gathered at his palms and formed only two small plugs just like his brother.

“How is it?” Robin asked, kneeling next to him.

He looked up and they gasped as they saw his iris had changed to a sort of gear shaped while his eye veins had turned into circuit lines. It was like data was moving through his eyes.

“That… was harsh. My body felt like it was ripping apart.” he said and looked around and pointed at the front door of the institute. “I can see them though. It is like a strange dot of glowing energy gathering into an orb right at the front of the door. It has the same feeling as the holes at school.” He said.

“Good, Mr Atlas, can we go back to school? We can find a safe node that Tristan can test his powers on.” he said.

He looked at the time and nodded, “I guess there is still time. It is only 5:20.” he said.

They drove back and arrived about 15 minutes later and Tristan had recovered and was looking around. They couldn’t use the club house or the civilian class building nodes. They decided that the gym was the best one as it had the least technology that wasn’t unreplaceable. The node was at the door as well and Tristan extended the plugs until they were on both sides. They lit up and lit up that space before fading.

Instantly Tristan turned pale as half his life force was used.

“Are you okay?” Oliver asked his brother.

“Yeah, just like before, I still use 50% of my life force.” He said groaning but smiled as he could see the node of data rapidly gathering and many tiny life forms were quickly forming. “It worked, there are life forms forming in the node.” he said.

“Does it take a long time for them to consume all the life force?” Robin asked.

Tristan was looking, “Um… there isn’t a lot to begin with but it looks like all of it will be turned into a living being by midnight. Since they will fight, maybe by morning they will already be on the final few.” he said.

“Great, tomorrow morning let’s gather here in case something happens. We can help you if anything happens.” Robin said.

Zack took out a droplet of life force and Tristan swallowed it with a smile as it helped him restore some strength in his body.

The two cars took the students home after their little excursion and Robin was shocked when he got home and was watching tv as the news of the institute actually became a headline news as hundreds of patients were actually being discharged from previously grave injuries or life threatening disabilities due to their bodies not being able to handle their own powers. The happiest were those with psychic powers who now had clear minds and could achieve some control of their previously crazy powers.

It was an amazing feeling for Robin to see this so well recognized. At the end, the reporters were saying that money was being invested to restore the old institute and provide newer equipment so that they could better treat the remaining patients with the new changes they obtained from the group effort of an unnamed group of heroics class children who had desires to help these kinds of unfortunate people.

The next morning he and his club got up earlier and headed to school before it filled up so that they wouldn’t be distracted by the intense flow of students.

Tristin looked much better than the previous day.

“Hey, how are you?” Robin asked.

“Okay, thanks to the droplet, I was able to make up a good bit of life force that I only felt a little weakened.” He said.

“That is good, and the node?” He asked.

“Watching it is honestly amazing. The creatures are already down to the last few. From what the gamer space said, these nodes are like homes for them but if they stay too long, viruses and other things might start infecting. This could crash the entire node and kill the digital creature and I would instantly lose all the life force it had.” He said.

“That is a big restriction. If you can’t control it then you would be forced to recover for a while.” Robin frowned.

“Yeah, I have tried during the night the instinctive ability for catching and feel pretty good about it. That said, it is pretty intense because I have to draw a digital life form into the real world and work the life force into a solid mass before absorbing excess life force back.” he said.

“Just like Lola, familiar master class abilities are so freaking complex.” Robin complained.

They laughed at the comment.

By the time the rest arrived, the final two were fighting and Tristan was waiting. Finally when the last one died and all the life force gathered in one, it changed from a block of life force and data into a living being and happily entered the node in triumph as its own.

However, before it could start to feed off the data, the lines of life force shot from Tristan’s hands and gripped the creature inside the node.

It instantly tried to rebel and Tristan scowled as he started to move his hands and tried to pull and grab. With shakes, the life force lines would wrap more and more until one final pull caused a bright light to materialize.

He had to narrow his eyes and work fast as he didn’t have a barrier of space to fight anymore and formed a complete egg of life force. He compressed it and started to squeeze out the life force the creature obtained.

It rejoined his flow and he felt a burning in his hands as it flowed into his body. He clearly felt it, the life force was purer, stronger and far better than it originally was.

It had to cycle in his body several times to adapt back to him before it came to replace the life force in the egg and caused much more pressure.

Only when it was the size of his pinky nail did a reaction finally happen as a small bit of life force absorbed all the data of the life form and took the solidified form of a computer chip. The rest dispersed and rapidly gathered back into Tristan who turned red faced at the burning feeling while the chip floated in the air.

He carefully took it and looked at the data chip with a little image of a small life form.

He sighed, and smiled as he succeeded. “It worked!” he said and laughed.

“Hey, what happened at the end?” Robin asked.

“It was honestly amazing. My life force had become purer somehow and it was like fire running through me. Even now it is hot and I feel like I have so much energy as the old life force feels like it is getting consumed by this new life force to make it grow. It even feels like at the end I might have less but much more compressed.” he said.

“Interesting.” Robin said and wrote it down.

“I wonder why it got purer?” Oliver asked.

“Maybe due to passing through so many thousands of life forms.” Shoji hypothesized.

“That is a viable guess. The reason a food chain exists is because energy becomes more refined as the chain goes up. That is why herbivores eat so much while carnivores need to eat once or twice a day.” Milo replied.

“Hey, let's go inside while we have time and check it out! Can a device hold that thing or do you need a special one built for it?!” Lilith asked excitedly while her chomps were as small as marbles and were acting as scouts on her arms.

“I’m not sure.” He said.

“Come on, we have time before class starts.” Robin said and they went to the club room.

Inside, they tried a cell phone chip slot. They were shocked when the data chip actually glowed and changed into a shape needed to insert into it.

He connected it right in and turned on the phone.

“Let’s see, oh, there is an app getting installed. It’s called the ‘Digital spawner system’. Oh there is another one… ‘Digital farm’. It seems I can store them in my phone.” he said but he soon got a prompt that his phone's memory was getting dangerously low.

“Heh, guess not.” Oliver said laughing.

“Makes sense, they are basically AIs. It would be weird if it wasn’t a massive file.” Robin said.

Tristan began to work on his phone and cleared unnecessary data first, followed by unnecessary videos and voice messages. When it was cleaned, nearly 10 terabytes of data was cleared.

“How the hell do you have so much video data.” Oliver asked.

“I had movies along with a lot of messages from the family chat groups. It’s been about a year since I cleared that up.” he said.

They laughed and everyone understood because everyone had that kind of thing.

Finally when the two apps were finished he opened the spawner and saw a single option. “Let’s see. Name your Digital Creature.” He said. A picture appeared of basically a little blob-like creature. “Well, since I don't know how this will grow, let’s just go with glop.” he said.

“Oh come on, we need a digimon name for it.” Oliver jokes only to get back handed by his brother.

“Shut up. We can wait to see if it has its own breed name.” He said.

The app continued and he figured out how to spawn it. “Okay, seems I use a lot less life power to spawn it.” He said and actually channeled life power into his phone.

The screen shined before a small egg appeared, sucking up life power until it popped and formed a small two eyed little blob.

It dropped down and looked around and jumped in fear at the many people and quickly glowed before shooting back into the phone. The life force was instantly returned and the others looked at Tristan.

“Is that thing reliable?” Lola asked bluntly.

“Hmm… maybe because it is still young and newly born, it might not be strong. Try the farm.” Mr Atlas said.

“Okay.” Tristan said and closed the spawner and opened the farm. “Hmm… a message. “Hello new digital spawner. You finally have your first spawn but these are small and weak, unable to properly be of help. The farm exists both to create a haven for it to rest but also to raise it to a usable size. The farm is in itself a data node which is constantly connecting to the nearby network. It contains a filter and helps remove viruses coming in as well as unwanted kinds of data as well as having a data copier so that it doesn’t consume valuable data. Data is stored until enough is gathered to produce food for the spawn, life force must be mixed into the data to achieve the effect for growth of the spawn. Naturally, the life force, instead of remaining, undergoes a process alongside the data which refines the digital spawn’s data before returning to the spawner. This cycle also helps the digital spawner grow as the life force is slowly enhanced. Once enough data is gathered, the spawn will upgrade.” He said and pressed next. “Hey look, it has a growth system as well.” he exclaimed.

“Let me see.” Oliver said. “Newborn, Infant, Child, Adult, Mega, Ultimate. Each stage is represented by different stages of growth, however the spawner’s own life force limits the summonable form. Spawns at the child stage are the most stable to spawn without having to go through the previous stages, however they require data and life force to achieve their adult form. Maintaining the adult form in the real world is also consuming and spawns will revert to child form if the amount of life force runs low. Life force consumed by spawns will gather back to the spawner within a few hours.”

“Wow, that sounds very similar to Lola.” Milo said.

“It does.” Robin replied and constantly wrote what he heard down. “Anything more?” he asked.

“Yeah, Mega and Ultimate are unique and rare. It seems there are secondary requirements that Tristan needs to discover to achieve it. This is honestly really like Digimon, except that other life force users can’t spawn them but they can help raise them. Seems they get the same treatment and the life force can actually be trained through them to be purer.” Oliver said. “Oh neet, at higher levels the spawn can be uploaded to other machines and like my digital form, can do cleaning of viruses and stuff on their own.” Oliver said.

Tristan pushed his brother away as he pressed next and a flat island appeared. “That is all.” He said and began to touch the menu to see what it had. It simply showed the speed of data flow and production of food. He could pick which spawn could house in the ‘plot’ and he would need a certain amount of ‘points’ to form new islands to house other spawns. It basically confirmed that within the foreseeable future, he would need several storage machines.

“If this can train life force, that means they are useful for us.” Zack commented.

“Yeah, maybe we can help raise a few for you.” Lola replied.

“I want a cute one!” Lilith chimed in.

“Oh come on, it took so much life force and effort. At least let me have a break and get used to the life force I have.” He complained.

Everyone laughed and agreed that he couldn’t do everything at once. They continued to talk about their development during the day. Rudy showed off his ice feathers and also how two more appendages had grown on the center of his forehead growing backwards while another from his other eyebrow. His tail feathers were now red, blue and purple in color and he could channel the three energies into his feathers which could not be used far more efficiently.

When they all filled each other in, the school was already filling in with students so they each went off to their own class.
