Voice turned to the boy. He had been in utter agony for hours now. Not even the most ox hearted of people could withstand such pain for long. Kyle had collapsed on the ground, body slightly convulsing while his flesh went through the motions of damage and regeneration. Voice’s skill whispered in Kyle’s ears during the entire process.
Voice canceled his spell, and sat while he waited for Kyle to regain consciousness. During the wait, Voice had Kretchof make a Soul-Binding Contract. Although Kretchof had only as much mana as Voice, he had more darkness to work with.
Since Voice had upgraded to Mana Mage, Kretchof had obtained the ability to manipulate the darkness mana around himself to complete tasks, such as creating Soul-Binding Contracts. Since Voice had such high purity in darkness mana, Kretchof was far more powerful than a normal rank 4 darkness fairy.
Voice summoned Kretchof. “Make me a Soul-Binding Contract. This boy is going to sign it.” Voice casually pointed to the boy on the ground. Kretchof bowed and began consuming the 100 mana from nearby.
Within a moment he handed over the completed contract. As he was about to disappear, Voice stopped him. “Tell me. How do you cast spells?”
Without pausing to think about, Kretchof answered to the best of his abilities. “I borrow a small portion of power from Davros, and channel that into a spell. Since you, master, have become a class much more in tune with magic than most, I can also borrow the darkness mana around me to craft my spells.”
“That’s fine, but you have a mana limit. If you are simply borrowing power, why do you need mana yourself?”
“Apologies, master. I misunderstood. My mana is the limit of spells Davros will allow me to use. That is just how fairies are. Since we are creations of the gods, we must obtain their consent to use our powers.”
Voice looked quizzically at him. “How exactly are fairies made? Why can they be upgraded? In fact, How does upgrading a fairy actually work?”
Kretchof smiled as he donned a scholastic look. “Master has many questions; I will try to answer them all. Fairies are made when a god intentionally splits off a portion of their power. After giving the spark of power a mind, a fairy is born. Fairies can be upgraded because they can hold more power from their god. The god obviously will only grant a certain portion to that fairy, lest they lose all of their power to the fairy.
“Should a fairy try to move past rank 4, the god would likely destroy them. Upgrading a fairy is both simple and complicated. Usually the god that fairy is a part of will have the summoner do a certain task once they reach the needed affinity. The god then infuses a bit more power into the fairy than before. The process of infusing the fairy is a bit complicated, but basically consists of pouring more ability into the fairy.”
Voice nodded at this. It made sense. The fairies would get infused with more power after he completed a certain task. For Sol and Kretchof there was no task, but that was because he was Mar’s Chosen, and made a deal with Davros.
“One more question before you go.” Voice had a pensive look as he watched Kyle’s body for signs of awakening.
“Anything for you, Master.”
“What would happen if the fairy consumed a drop of the deity’s blood? And what would happen if a mortal drank it instead?”
Kretchof’s eyes went wide when Voice asked. Seeing that his Master was not joking, he answered. “They would become an abomination. A single drop of Life-Blood from a god would evolve the fairy far beyond what was ever intended. They would not be anywhere near as powerful as the god, but they would be more powerful than most mortal mages that studied the same magic.
“As for the mortal consuming the blood? It’s never happened before. There would be no way to find out unless a lucky mortal were to obtain a drop and use it.” Kretchof’s eyes lit up a bit at the idea of consuming a drop of Davros’ blood.
“Thank you for the information. You are dismissed.”
Kretchof bowed and disappeared.
Thinking about it, Voice summoned each of his other fairies, and asked them all similar questions. Most of them could not answer the questions, as they were not under the power of the god of intellect. Sol knew a bit about the upgrading process, but that was about it.
So the actual upgrading process fuses other fairies together to form the new fairy. Sometimes only taking a small bit, other times combining the entire power of other fairies as their own. But they all told me they borrowed power from their gods. If I really want to destroy the gods, I need to find a way around that. Does that mean my power is taken from the gods? I don’t want that. If my power is dependent on the good will of someone else, I need to fix it.
Mana formed the world of Solun. Everything was made up of it. The amount of mana in the world was far more than the amount contained within a first level fairy. There had to be a better answer of the creation of the world.
Voice had a sudden memory. Just before the gladiatorial arena matches began, he had a talk with Chao. Chao told him of the different types of man other than the 8, but how they were sealed up. Only the Council of the 5 most powerful Chaotic Lifeforms could possibly open up the ability to use them.
How does one seal up a type of mana? Does the fact that mana can be sealed up mean mana has to follow a higher law? Maybe if I can discover this higher law I can reach complete mastery over Magical Mastery.
There were many things Voice felt he needed to learn about to destroy the game. One of them was the inner workings of magic. If he grew intimate with them, he would be able to accomplish anything.
After contemplating magic for a bit, Voice began to think of something else. Whenever he killed things, he didn’t get very much exp. On occasions he would get massive amounts of exp.
There has to be a trick somewhere. His face widened as he came to the sudden realization.
ShortDwarf and LastingBeauty have insanely high levels! How did they get that good? I mean I almost single handedly destroyed a dungeon boss! Sure they hunt dungeons all of the time, but it shouldn’t give them that much exp. How is it possible to level up so quickly?
Even EDI had a huge jump in levels not long ago. There has to be some sort of trick I’m missing!
When Voice realized this, he suddenly began to think up every time he had gained large amounts of levels or exp. Suiciding was one such occasion.
Both times I used Mar’s suicide attack, I gained a lot of exp. All three of them can’t be using that. I only got it because I was fighting evil, and I am Mar’s Chosen. Do they have something similar? No. Suiciding can’t be the answer.
I did kill a massive amount of people each time. Maybe that was it? No. I have killed huge amounts of enemies in the worm dungeon. That should have given me a huge level boost as well, but didn’t. I did get a small chunk from the colosseum, but not nearly as much as when I killed the bandits afterwards/
A thought suddenly dawned on him.
Maybe it is the same as… No that can’t be. That wouldn’t make sense. Actually most games are sort of like that anyway. Maybe…?
Voice decided to try it. He stood up, and looked over Kyle. *Inhale* “Alright Kyle, time to wake up.”
Voice cast several healing spells on Kyle, while also buffing him with the energy buff. Kyle’s eyes twitched, and slowly opened.
Kyle’s expression was limp. His face seemed void of any emotion. He lay there, prone. His eyes, empty of intelligence, stared at Voice.
“I am Karma Lithe! I am your Alchemist Master! Obey my orders! Stand at attention!”
Voice transmitted his command via his skill. Instantly the boy jumped up, and faced Voice. Kyle placed his hands behind his back, and stared forward. Like a soldier awaiting orders. Of course, Kyle didn’t know what this position was, but Voice’s skill showed him exactly what to do.
“I am Karma Lithe! I am your Alchemist Master! If anyone repeats these phrases, besides me, do not follow their orders.”
Voice looked over Kyle. One by one he removed his mind-controlling skills. “Stab her!” Voice picked created a stone knife, and pointed it at Kyle’s mom. Without flinching, Kyle took the knife, and stabbed the dead body.
It was going well.
“Answer me. Do you remember who you are?”
Kyle nodded.
“Answer with words. What is your name?”
“I am Kyle.”

Voice nodded. Everything was going better than expected. He created a small stone, and tossed it across the room. “Fetch that for me.”
Kyle’s movements weren’t wooden. Voice expected him to move almost like a zombie. If anything he was only slightly worse off than he was before the brainwashing. The only thing that was of consequence was that Kyle had not dropped the knife. Under normal circumstances one would do so.
Voice had one last test to run. If it worked, he would start hyper-leveling.
“Stab yourself in the heart.”
Voice was watching for the slightest bit of hesitation. If there was any, the boy was unfit. If there was none, it meant Kyle was truly brainwashed. That meant the boy could be controlled without the further use of any skills. Voice activated his time-slow.
On cue, Kyle stabbed the knife straight towards his own heart.
“STOP!”
Moments before the knife pierced Kyle’s chest, Voice called for the boy to stop. Kyle’s hand slowed at a visible pace. With Voice’s Instant Analysis in play, Voice could actually watch as Kyle stopped his own joints from moving. He pulled back on the knife with such force that Voice heard a slow crack.
Voice undid his skill, and instantly healed the boy. After a few more orders, he realized that orders were followed as closely as Kyle could, but needed the assistance of his Mental Domination skill if it was anything complicated.
“Very good Kyle. I’m proud of you. Now, it’s time to do something actually useful. Fetch one person from the Elder’s house. Don’t let them know that I want them. Make it so only one of them want to follow you.”
Kyle left, and Voice realized noticed a sudden blinking in his vision.
You have successfully dominated Kyle’s mind. The control is permanent, except under special circumstances. Kyle will obey all orders to the best of his ability. Contradictory orders may cause harm to the individual’s psyche.
Within a few minutes, Kyle rushed into the house, followed closely by one of the guards. The guard was equipped with a onehanded sword, and small wooden shield.
Voice had already hid himself in another room, and pounced on the guard after he entered. The guard, stunned by the gruesome scene before him, did nothing to retaliate.
Voice easily stabbed him through the throat with the bladed spear tip of his staff. The guard choked as blood spewed from his mouth and throat. When the guard had died, Voice incinerated the body. He looked at his exp bar.
“Che. No change. I guess that was to be expected. Now on to the real test. Kyle, bring another. Same rules as last time. This time bring him into the forest where I’ll be waiting.”
With his skill activated, he indicated the general direction that he would go.
Voice had an easy time getting there. He quickly inspected the dense cover of trees. Once he was in place, he removed all armor from his body. Next he debuffed himself.
He debuffed various things, like speed and ease of movements. He buffed himself with extra health and defense. He buffed and debuffed himself several times. Many of the debuffs would only have a small effect on combat ability, but Voice did them to waste mana.
After he was done he saw the next guard coming.
Alright. If I die I’m going to be so pissed.
The guard realized what was happening when Voice unsheathed his blades from his staff.
“YAHHH!” The guard gave a war cry as he charged Voice. Voice had canceled all of his toggle skills, so could only guess as to whether that was an ability or just a theatric.
Voice attacked the guard with a low swing of his left blade. At the same time he stabbed straight forward with the right blade. Using two blades independently was beyond Voice’s capabilities of his level 52 Tactical Combat Training, but he could at least guide two in simple movements.
The guard knocked aside the left blade, and angled his body to avoid the right. Voice dropped his left blade, and quickly latched onto his right with both hands. He guided it towards a tried-and-true weak point, but his debuffs stopped his body from moving the exact way he wanted.
The guard retaliated with slice of his sword. The blade cut deeply at Voice’s left rib. Voice didn’t have his armor on, so only had a bit of natural defense. With his defensive buff his skin was about as durable as thick leather.
The blade cut into Voice, but only drew a small smattering of blood. A thin line of a wound formed. Voice threw himself to the side, while simultaneously activating Instant Analysis. The skill showed a perfect arc which would lead to him picking up his weapon without getting injured.
After grabbing the weapon, Voice turned the skill off. He turned back to the guard.
“Good. I needed a bit of sport today.”
The guard angrily stared at him. “Why? Why would you attack me? Have I offended you?”
Voice smirked, but otherwise stayed silent. Realizing that he was going to have a hard time winning with his various debuffs, he canceled some of the more combat limiting ones.
Voice attacked the guard by slicing both his blades towards the guards legs. The guard jumped upwards to avoid the blow. Voice had a wicked smile as he angled both blades to intersect at the guard’s crotch, changing their directions mid-slash.
The guard had already anticipated something like this, and was shielding himself even as Voice began to change the direction of his blades. Voice’s blades caught on the wood of the shield. Taking a cue from Voice’s earlier action, the soldier dropped the unattached shield, and attacked. He dodged past Voice, and faced his back.
Voice frowned as the extra weight of the shield pulled at his swords. He yanked his swords out of the shield, but got a deep gash across his back for his efforts.
Voice felt his blood begin to surge faster. He attacked with a flurry of un-aimed blows at the guard. The guard intercepted each of them with his sword. Those he couldn’t block, he dodged past. He would angle his body to take the least amount of damage from those he couldn’t dodge.
The guard attacked, but Voice blocked it with both of his blades, occasionally using the bladed tip of the two ends to attack. The battle was an intense clash of forces. Voice and the guard traded blows for dozens of seconds.
Getting worried that someone, or something, would hear, Voice decided to end the battle. He activated Instant Analysis, and attacked the guard’s left thigh. As the guard went to block, Voice also attacked his left eye.
With a sickening squelch, his blade penetrated the guard’s eye. The blade continued past, and pierced the back of the guard’s skull.
Voice huffed from the exertion the battle had taken on him. He looked at his exp bar with expectations.
His face instantly change when he saw it. First disbelief, then acceptance, then joy.
“IT WORKED!”
Voice had gotten nearly twice the exp from beating the second guard! Voice incinerated the body, and began to reevaluate his buffs and debuffs. Filled with ecstatic joy, Voice finally understood how to gain levels quickly.
I don’t have to fight stronger opponents! I don’t have to fight many! All I have to do is make it hard to win!
“HAHAHAHA HA! GOOD! This is perfect!”
Voice sped himself up as much as possible, and arrived at the Elder’s house in moments. He quickly infused the entire estate with fire mana, and set it to flames. The bricks that made up the house exploded from the violent heat. With a flick of his hand, the thatch roofing on the wooden houses caught fire and began to burn down the houses.
It wasn’t strictly necessary for Voice to kill everyone in the town, but he didn’t want any witnesses to the fact that he had come here. By burning the other houses, he ensured that it would at least take time for anyone to realize that one boy was missing. That was if they even knew the villagers personally.
After checking that there were no light mana signatures near the town, Voice concluded that his mission was complete. Voice smiled and ran back to Kyle.
“Boy. Come with me. I need somewhere else to practice.”
He was going to truly level now, all he had to do was figure out the best series of buffs and debuffs to use. Then he’d level up even faster than SD and LB, after all, they couldn’t gauge their own battle strength and adjust it nearly as finely as Voice.
